What? Fergie bought plenty of young strikers with potential. Some of them turned out great, others not so much. Solskjær turned out great, so did Wazza and Ruud. Bellion and Manucho not so much. Of course, he liked signing proven strikers as well, RvP and Cole-type signings, but we can't buy one of those this window.

Fergie would NEVER have spunked 65m quid or it’s equivalent back in the day on this guy at this point in his career. It was exactly the kind of transfer he loathed.

I’m not saying he would or wouldn’t have liked the player, but Hojlund for SAF would’ve absolutely been a side punt - as he should be now.

He not only wouldn’t have signed him, but he probably would’ve publicly declared the price ridiculous knowing Fergie.

Fergie would’ve gone in uber hard for Kane and failing that a Watkins, Toney, Ihanacho, Mitro signing to tide us over.

Barring anything ridiculous, I’d say this is done. A handful of very reliable journalists are putting their names on it.

With Fergie we hopefully wouldn't be in the mess we are in because we wouldn't have signed some of the players we did recently. Unfortunately he isn't and we did.

Seems like the type of striker a smaller club would sign, not the type of striker Bayern Real Barcelona etc would buy, I thought we were up there with those clubs, but maybe we aren't any more. Hope I'm wrong on both thoughts.
Juventus, Inter, Bayern and Chelsea were all circling the lad at some stage over the last few months. PSG have actually put in a bid for him as reported by Ornstein, not sure what else ya want!

So you're suggesting he would have tried to spend over 100mill and paid ridiculous wages to Kane? Because he wouldn't have.

Then let's just be glad nobody at the club is making that sort of call. Hojlund at 20 is already scoring at the same rate in Serie A as those 26-28 year olds are in the PL. And one of those options is banned until January. I have no idea why anyone would prefer us to sign one of those relatively average strikers over the much higher upside youngster.

I’m trying to get excited and I just found his Finland game, looked amazing there, the movement for the first goal especially was amazing and something not seen by a United striker since probably RVP. What a difference to a statue Martial he will be. For those who haven’t seen this highlights yet:

Sure, but he would also have said the same things about Kane's price and wage demands. And you won't get top strikers for 60 million these days, the price isn't that ridiculous. It's high, but not ridiculously so.

Also, I'm glad we haven't gone for a player like Iheanacho or Mitrovic. Watkins, maybe, but the possible upside is much higher with Højlund.

If we hypothetically hesitated and moved on, and then Hojlund went on and scored 20 goals for Atalanta or any other club next season then we’d have looked stupid.

Don’t forget he has barely settled into Atalanta and his stats in the second half of last season look good in isolation considering his age and how long he’s been there. I have no doubt his Denmark performances have played a part in attracting the attention of the elite clubs.

For whatever reason, there’s a bit of deficit on pure strikers at the moment. The best ones are unattainable so you have to go shopping either for a bargain or for potential. Kane would be perfect but face it Daniel Levy stands in the way and there has been bad blood between him and United since the Berbatov transfer, where he was forced to take our lower offer against City’s back then newly acquired Mansour dollars, because Berbatov only wanted United.

Looks done. Brilliant signing. The one I'm most excited about. Now it's up to him to put in the work. I don't expect a lot numbers wise in his first season, but I think he can become very good overtime.

United was just a bridge too far for Weghorst that's why he completely bombed here and bolded part is just Revisionist BS and if Hojland ends up having season like Weghorst than I would be really surprised if he is given time and patience to even make it at United .

And please though it's ok not have extreme expectations but it's also important not go completely in opposite direction . Happy medium would be just fine .

Revisionist BS would be people who look at the amount of goals Weghorst ended up with and completely negate any positive impact having an industrious centre forward had for the team. There is a reason he was continually picked and a reason we had decent results with him.

I don't know how anyone could disagree that Weghorst fed off of scraps. Our wingers constantly cut in and take shots, or lay the ball off for midfielders. The two goals he scored for us were rebounds! He didn't miss many big chances at all. But I'm not here to argue about Weghorst, he wasn't good enough and he isn't here anymore.

I remember Gary Neville saying Weghorst was a "placeholder" for United's next striker and I think Hojlund is the upgraded model, with added pace and bags of potential. However like Weghorst I expect him to be a cog in the system and not the focus of the system, until he proves he can be more than that.

If he’s here in the UK, get it sorted over the weekend and don’t let him leave :)

Di Marzio giving us another update - i think this is done by the evening.

We know how that turned out
Yes but they sign 16 year old forwards from Brazil for 40m pounds as well. Investing in youth isn’t some small club mentality status

Edit Bayern s current number 9 is a teenager they signed from Chelsea!

That’s about £60m then. If that’s including performance add-ons fees then that’s a good price. I hope the initial fee is closer to £50m.

Ended up paying £60m then.

Mount £55m
Onana £43m.
Hojlund £60m.

£158m.

Thall be us done, until we start selling the likes of Henderson, Maguire and McT.

If you mean Mathys Tel, he came from Rennes.

Does a lot of good “simple stuff” as well

the agreement with @ManUtd for Rasmus Hojlund is approaching in these minutes. The intermediaries are negotiating to file the last details: operation around 70 million euros

I can’t wait for him to feast off of Shaw’s cutbacks in the opposition box. I feel like we’re due a thread title update if Di Marzios giving pretty regular updates

Apart from the fact that Ferguson left the club 10 years ago and it doesn't matter what he would've done, this is all speculative nonsense. Those alternative suggestions to Kane are about as average as they come. Iheanacho, really?

but in Fergie's day we could rock up at Villa, Brentford, Fulham and take their best players for reasonable fees. Take Saha for example, who we got in January for what 13m? despite being Fulham's top scorer. Imagine going to Brentford in January and asking for Toney for like £40million, they'd just laugh at us. We'd be looking at double that for Toney, and in the face of that Fergie would likely find another solution.

Fergie moved with the times better than anyone and he'd do the same today. You can't apply his transfer strategy logic to todays market. I agree he'd go for Kane but Spurs would ask for £150million and then what? He'd tell them to feck off.
