They would be monumentally stupid to play him!
True, however if that's the case why wasn't he left out of the travelling squad altogether

If this doesn’t happen in the next few days it’s obvious we are stalling to see if Kane is possible.
If our negotiators can wrap it up today, he could have his medical this weekend. It kind of makes sense.True, however if that's the case why wasn't he left out of the travelling squad altogether
I think that’s definitely what’s going on tbh. I mean getting both would show real ambition but we know that’s not going to happen. Will end up with nothing if we do that
Why would you think that? We have exactly zero chance at Harry Kane. It is Hojlund or bust.If this doesn’t happen in the next few days it’s obvious we are stalling to see if Kane is possible.
Because he's still one of their players and no bid agreed yet? The point here is will he play or not. It doesn't really matter if he's only on the bench imo.True, however if that's the case why wasn't he left out of the travelling squad altogether

Aye alright, unique logic. We’re signing this fella. But I also think we’ll go for Kane as well if it’s doable, which it doesn’t look like it is.

If you can't play out from the back against high pressing teams then it will be difficult to play the game in the opponent's half. If you allow the opposition to disrupt your build up play from the back with a well coordinated press, then progression will have to be achieved by going direct and relying on winning second balls. And to quote Roberto de Zerbi (not vertbatim), it's better to play out the from the back beccause it works, rather than gambling by kicking it long and losing control.
Against teams who were adept at pressing us high, we resorted to playing in transition and our away record was awful. And ten Hag himself was asked as to why the away record was so poor and his response was because our build up from the back was poor.
And statistically we struggled against a well coordinated press, especially away from home, where we struggled to get out of our own half against some of the better high pressing teams who absolutely battered us.
And the graph below again demonstrates our lack of progression from the back and lack of disruption to the opponent's build up. The teams who are nearer to the top scored a lot of goals. Brentford place high up the chart for progression from goal-kicks due to their team being geared up to win the second ball in a more direct style of play with a more physical style of player upfront. . Our team wasn't geared up to win the second ball hence ten Hag would place Weghorst in the central area to try and attempt to win the second ball. And unfortunately he wasn't the best at winning the second ball. And all that was due to the GK not providing the +1 in possession to the requisite standard imo.
The thoughts below are from a data scientist from Holland who also happens to be a United and Feyenoord fan.
Of course we also need a striker and unfortunately Ronaldo caused us a issue last season where we had to rely on bringing in a loan signing. But I think as far as team balance is concerned the correct signings have been targeted to create a well rounded team that has the ability to potentially exert control from the back, press high collectively, transition quickly and also control/contain the opponent's transitions on the counter. Hopefully we can add a deeper lying midfielder along with Hojlund before the window shuts.
Why would that reduce their negotiating hand? I'd think it'd be the opposite, given he could get an injury or something like that playing.Atalanta won't want to reduce their negotiatiating hand by leaving Hoijlund out today, if they do then a deal must be close.
City create a lot of chances by controlling possession and moving the ball from right to left and vice versa, this is massively helped by having a goalkeeper who can play out from the back. They also exploit gaps made by the possession by having a goalkeeper with superb long distribution. ETH wants us to be press monsters and obviously has an eye on keeping more possession when we have the ball, add the two together and we’re definitely in a far better position than last season.I'm not stating we shouldn't play out from the back, but what I am saying is had we had a striker last season worth their salt we would have had more points on the board judging by the amount of big chances we created and failed to capitalise on.
There's more than one way of dealing with a high press, and just because a team plays out nicely from the back doesn't always lead to that team creating chances.
Most chances come from opposition mistakes, pressuring high up the pitch, which really has no relation on playing out from the back.
So I assume he's already in England, as Atalanta have a friendly at Bournemouth this afternoon? That's handy.
Greenwood had 17 goals when he was what, 19 then?I think it's unfair to be setting goal expectations. He's 20 years old, in a new league. I don't see people setting similar expectations on Garnacho, who is coming off of a similar season as an impact player. My hope for both, is that they continue to improve individually and have a positive impact on the team.
The reason I think we have gone for Hojlund at a young age is because he can help the team, without being the finished article. His pace and industry, will occupy defenders, which in turn, creates space for players behind him like Fernandez, Mount, Rashford, Anthony, all of whom are capable of attacking the space and creating chances for themselves (especially the wide players). He can also play with his back to goal, when we need to be more direct - again with the aim of servicing our other attackers.
Ultimately I can see him having a very Weghorst-like season. His presence will make the team function better, but it will be a pretty thankless job, working hard and mostly feeding off scraps. The upside being that with his potential, as he matures and improves, we can start to use him as more of a focal point and tweak our tactics to service him more.
No source just a personal feeling. Can smell it. Not the only one either, a few including Howson think so as well. If this drags out another week or so then it’ll only strengthen that hunch.Where you getting even the tiniest belief from

Good post, agree with this, I think he has something about him and will score a few but I don't think we should pressure him to be the main man.I think it's unfair to be setting goal expectations. 5 of those goals did come in the Europa League. Still, that would be the right kind of benchmark for Hojlund in his first season.Greenwood had 17 goals when he was what, 19 then?
United was just a bridge too far for Weghorst that's why he completely bombed here and bolded part is just Revisionist BS and if Hojland ends up having season like Weghorst than I would be really surprised if he is given time and patience to even make it at United .I think it's unfair to be setting goal expectations. Atalanta sign a young striker. Could be unrelated.

Not playing! Let's gooo must be very close then. Very excited for this signing. He won't have a massive impact this year probably (well still better than what we had last year anyway), but think he can truly become a top CF
Yeah could well be related, I just wanted to caveat itNot sure it is unrelated, he’s their apparent replacement. Everton were said to be in the running for this player but have been beaten to him.
Yeah we certainly need two new strikers.Only way we wouldn't need another striker is IF Greenwood is returning and Martial could stay fit for more than 5 mins (no chance)
