This sort of money used to get CL winners. Now it gets you a young striker with potential who might or might not be good.

The irony is the passing of Trevor Francis this week and when you have Mbappe going for 250millon.

I remember the outrage by some in the press of a million quid transfer. World gone mad etc. (I was living in Nottingham then too.)

I think very many in this thread dont realize that while there is probably strikers in this price range that might have a more goals or plays in a «better league», Højlund is the one that fits best to ETH system and how he wants to play.

Just look at how Inter got the best of Lukaku while Chelsea got the worst of him because of the system, and there is countless examples of this. There is never any guarantees of how a player will perform in another system.

In my view the club and ETH went for Højlund because our way of playing gives him the best chance to thrive, and correspondingly our system benefits the most from a striker like this.

I do hope that we get another decent striker like Taremi if Hojlund is who we end up with. That would make for a very solid window

I think Kane is still a possibility, else this would have been done already? We will know after Aug 19 vs Tottenham I suspect.

Who is it that reporting this? Nothing on the tweet itself about who it is.
Not sure how reliable it is. Think it’s just a united based source but can’t be that far away from being correct. Atalanta want another 5m so we’re very close.

Bollocks. Darwin missed so many chances last year he became a meme. The prem is stronger, but Liverpool are a top team - he had no shortage of chances.

From what I saw of of Nunez and the blooper reels I saw he’s absolutely quality in getting in the right areas or making chances himself with his speed and strength - something I wish we had and we’ve been missing (at least for the first part) since Cavani left. I hope he continues to be bad with his decision making and finishing because if not, they really have a good striker

Basically what a lot of people are saying though. We’ve put a bid in but they want like 5m more. Getting closer. PSG aren’t a threat. He only wants us as he grew up a fan.

He has agreed personal terms with PSG. If they pay the asked price before we do, he may sign with them.
He’s agreed personal terms with us. If it’s between us and them I think he chooses us even for less money as he’s a fan. The only way he’ll sign for them is if they put in a higher bid and we’re not willing to go any higher.

Nah, don't think so. We'll have Rash, Martial and Hojlund as striker options. If only Martial could last more than 2 weeks before getting injured, that'd be some good options.

We have a gem on our hands on Garnacho, so we need to keep playing him. Buying someone like Taremi would limit Garnacho's opportunities.

I wondered this as when it comes to transfer deadline day, clubs seem to be able to put bids in, get them accepted, get all paperwork and medical done in 24 hrs. Outside of transfer deadline day, its glacial progress.
Mad ain’t it. I guess when it’s not deadline day though there’s plenty of time for clubs to try and negotiate prices down. When it’s deadline day clubs panick and just pay what the other club wants straight away.

Why? Isn’t Taremi a ST? We’d have Rash/Garnacho for LW. Taremi/Hojlund for ST. Sancho and Antony for RW.

Not sure how Taremi would limit Garnacho game time given they play two different positions. And Martial really can’t be relied on to be fit anymore. He can’t be relied on for anything

The way I see it is Garnacho and Rashford would rotate on the left, Hojlund and Taremi center, Antony and Sancho on the right and Martial on the hospital bed
Yes, but when Rashford is fit, he's always starting, unless it's the early stages of FA/Carabao, and he'd start on the left if we would have 2 new strikers. That's where Garnacho's opportunities start to fade.

Yes. That's what I also said :D

So even with just 1 ST. Garnacho won’t play as many games as you said when Rashford is fit he’s always starting. The only way Garnacho plays a handful of games is if Rashford starts upfront which I doubt he will unless he has to due to injury’s/suspensions.

I have the same impression. He ticks a lot of good boxes, and looks like a well-considered investment in the longer term.

That being said, we are in obvious need of a forward with immediate direct impact, and it does seem a bit risky to lay that on a young player who has never scored 10 goals in a season in a major league.

Agreed. ETH will rotate Rashford, Martial and Höjlund during the start of the season. Then it all depends on how Höjlund develops and if Martial can stay free of injuries. Kane would have been ideal but is not happening.

It does seem like ETH is planning to play Garnacho a lot more this season. Rashford would be the striker for now based on yesterdays reports and ETH recently said Sancho is better centrally, which potentially leaves Garnacho with a lot more playing time than last season

Wonder who all would be happy if we lose out to PSG, which seems to be a real possibility now.
Don't think we'll lose out. Going by reports he seemingly wants United and have agreed personal terms so if United want him they'll get him.

Agree, that seems evident. Only way I can see that we might lose out is if PSG meets Atalantas valuation and we don't.

I think we are on Atalanta's schedule and have allowed them secure his replacement before selling. I expect everything to run smoothly.

Definitely, unless they have a relative sugar daddy, they surely can't afford to be spending 30m on a striker this season after spending 20m on Hojlund last season.

I loved Cavani in his first season with us

Totally agree. There sadly seems to be a bit of history revisionism with Cavani.

In his first season our attack was transformed. He showed the Rashfords and Martials how to lead a line and his pressing wasn't bad either.

We need to discount the second season as OGS screwed him. Cavani wanted to move to South America but Ole convinced him to stay another season to sample the OT crowd after Covid. Then OGS pulls Ronaldo out of the hat and Cavani doesn't get that much game time + gets "injured".

Hopefully. It’s a direct battle with PSG now so not as straightforward as we first thought.

I like the look of him. He looks to be a good combination of technical quality and physical presence / athleticism. Not sure if he’s a top talent but has a lot of qualities we need.

It is straightforward Rasmus only wants United

I agree. Making runs and being at right place at right time are his strengths. Just the final product is missing. Hope he never improves in that aspect.

The final product isn't even missing unless the point of reference is a handful of world class strikers.

His replacements currently having a medical, I think this might kick into gear quicker now
