Okay, wait… so you admit you’ve watched nothing more than YouTube highlights (if that!) and yet quick to jump down my throat because I had the temerity to suggest he’s a bit of a speculative buy and may not help us much this year???!! Even better, you can’t be bothered to watch said matches because they are boring  A real superfan! Wow, you’ve really dug deep on the research here mate.

Here’s what I think, and tell me if I’m wrong. You read the forum, picked a side (cause it’s easy), didn’t think about the cost differences or even a centimeter more deeply about the deal, and basically chose an opinion that someone else had parroted, then proceeded to write 100+ posts making snide comments at other people because their opinion is different from your stolen opinion.

The Mason Mount thing. It’s okay for you to criticize a signing or be less than optimistic, but when someone else does it, clearly, they’re being a negative Nellie. Oh, and you’re willing to have inherent positivity, unless it’s for Mason Mount. Pretty damn hypocritical.

Have some fecking class. Not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you.

Bold of you to tell him to have some class after that post. Everything about it is so condescending.

A post littered with straw men. This is not how to debate.

It's not because you have the temerity to suggest he is speculative which if you even read the post and engaged without intellectual dishonesty you'll already realise because I stated I don't think we disagree that he's a risk or raw. It's because you pop up blasting our pre season performance, and questioning the managers judgment. That's what is indicating how entrenched your negativity is. It was nothing even to do with Hojlund and you still found a way to spin a preseason match and questioning of the manager into a post. So maybe think about that and how it comes across.

I'm not really interested in a dick measuring contest of who has watched Atalanta. Anybody can say they watch all the matches but if it's complete bollocks what's the point? I gave you the truth. I'm content with what I've watched to summarise that I think he looks promising. It's not enough to write a scouting report or a piece of laughable economic fiction but for the purposes of a lay opinion on an internet forum it reaches my personal threshold and that's good enough for me.

I wasn't especially negative about Mount. I stated I wouldn't have gone for it but I also stated that he needs time to adjust to the team and a new role. You know, balance. That thing where you retain perspective and can see both sides of things rather than being a know it all that is glued to a position.

Sorry but that's one of the least impressive records I've ever seen in football  . The premiership equivalent is 46 goals scored by Michael Owen and the seventh highest scoring teenager in English football has double the league goals that Hojlund scored.

It's not impressive because you're comparing it the wrong way.

Did Owen score 46 goals in 1800 minutes? You're looking at the total amount of time spent as a teenager and all of their goals scored in that period.

Højlund has spent one season and a total of 1800 minutes (going by what everyone else is saying).

He's a risk/potential signing but no need to look at things out of context.

I disagree. It is debatable which league is stronger considering the performance of Italian clubs in European competition last season and it is still the case that the style of play in the PL is much more open than in Serie A.
Eh. Other than the top 4, the middle and the bottom of the league in Serie A are pretty shit. Compared to the PL, their spend is what, 1/5 of a typical PL team?

I'm not even talking about Hojlund. I'm talking about the record itself. Anyways, I'm fairly certain its not true he has the record. Fbref has Balotelli scoring 20 before he was even 19. Think Cassano had more too.

Well I guess if you're going to quote a record you might as well be truthful. Michael Owen didn't score 46 goals in his first year, nevermind 1800 minutes. In fact if we were to go by goals per 90 he's pretty much the same. Greenwood and Ferguson both scored 10 goals in the league and were rightly lauded.

Any teenage striker who can score in a big league is talented.

Again, not in a single season, a simple Google search would verify this for you. No teenager has scored as many goals as Hojlund in a single season in Italy. This is still a league which loves to defend and plenty of teenagers who went on to have amazing careers don't have that record. No doubt its a risk but its still an impressive achievement for any new kid on the block.

Do you know the definition of a straw man argument? I don’t think you do. Asking someone if they’ve watched Atalanta with Hojlund in the lineup isn’t a straw man argument. Pointing out hypocrisy — you called me negative, yet you were negative on Mount — is absolutely relevant.

Blasting preseason performances? I literally said what Ten Hag himself said. Has Antony been a good buy thus far? I would say Ten Hag would be disappointed and in fact has favored Bruno out of position over Antony.

Can you put some punctuation in your posts? Look mate, not interested in carrying this on. Clearly you can’t see the nuance in my posts and read them in rage. I’ll continue to have my opinions, feel free to ignore.

The quality disparity between the top and bottom of the Serie A table is bigger than the Premier League's, is what I meant. I wasn't saying Italy's bigger clubs aren't as good as the rest of Europe's.

I dunno. Insulting someone because they have a different opinion as yours, yet you’ve admitted you’ve done no research on the topic seems irrationally stupid. If that comes across as condescending so be it.

Maybe he though about this season?

Back to the point.

Are we signing Hojland ?

Pretty sure we are considering how much time & effort the transfer team has expanded on it. Matter of price.

Pretty simple really --- the less we spend on Hojlund, the more likelihood we can spend on bringing in other players.

I have seen people here complaining about his first touch. Is it that bad? Like Lukaku bad?
No. His technique is a strong trait of his. He is however a recently turned 20 year old with a big frame who plays in a way where he encourages defenders to get on his back so he can hold them off, and that's the toughest situation to properly control the ball and why it's a rare ability. He's inconsistent with it because of his age and it being a hard skill, but he's shown a lot of ability on the ball. Guys like Dzeko and Lewandowski who are the best in the world at it also had similar issues when they were young.

Read your post with great interest and some doubt, then saw your tagline..

Hojlund scored 4 Serie A goals before he turned 20. How could he possibly have the record for a teenager?

It's ridiculous that it takes an entire transfer window (or sometimes 2 or even 3 transfer windows) for us to bid for a player. Always some drama.
Meanwhile, clubs like LFC and even AFC are able to get their business done quickly. I've watched several documentaries on footballers and they all say that when they are sold it is done very quickly with little notice.
The negotiating team at MUFC should be fired. They are beyond incompetent.
Either make the deal or move on to another target.
Go through other clubs transfer dealings, and you will see that it's not always done in a few weeks.

And just recently Mount and Onana was done quickly. Maybe you don't remember that.

Are we signing Hojland ?
Hopefully. It’s a direct battle with PSG now so not as straightforward as we first thought.

I like the look of him. He looks to be a good combination of technical quality and physical presence / athleticism. Not sure if he’s a top talent but has a lot of qualities we need.

Wonder who all would be happy if we lose out to PSG, which seems to be a real possibility now.

Who's your idea of 'statement signing'? Mbappe?
My reply was to a poster who said PSG might be targeting Hojlund to make a statement as they are losing Mbappe , for United statement signing would be Kane this window .

If we lose him then it is because of the Glazer. They should get the F out of United, how long does it take to put in a bid? It is likely that United has broke owners. If they had sold the club, we would had 4-5 signings playing in the friendly. Stupid owners who to put Ed in-charge, creating this mess.

Don't panic...this ain't the match day thread. And even if we lose him it's got nothing directly to do with the Glazers. We have FFP constraints.

We wasted a billion the past 10yrs due to Woodward's dumb vision & poor management.

I swear, every transfer window it needs to be explained a bid is a final step in getting the deal done.

I wondered this as when it comes to transfer deadline day, clubs seem to be able to put bids in, get them accepted, get all paperwork and medical done in 24 hrs. Outside of transfer deadline day, its glacial progress.

This sort of money used to get CL winners. Now it gets you a young striker with potential who might or might not be good.
