If you are shopping at Aldi you might be right but it’s not like there are ton of strikers available for lower price to play for United currently.
The market is incredibly shallow at that position.

So in transit/counter he turns into beast mode, really awsome to watch that. And he is a teamplayer, doing much hard work on the pitch for the others !   1. Erling Haaland (RB Salzburg, sold to BVB due to exit clause for just €20m)
  2. Rasmus Højlund (Sturm Graz, sold to Atalanta Bergamo for €17m plus addons)
  3. Sadio Mane (RB Salzburg, sold to Southampton for €23m)
  4. Emanuel Emegha (Sturm Graz, sold to RC Strasbourg for €12m plus addons)
  5. Benjamin Šeško (RB Salzburg, sold to RB Leipzig for €24m)
Dont get me wrong, Šeško is a good player but the others here are better imo. And its much easier to score for RB Salzburg (serial champion) as it is for Sturm Graz (vice champion since 2 years). In any way Austria has become a great breeding ground for young talent (not strikers only). Our (Sturm Graz) latest signing is 19yo scottish defender Max Johnston from FC Motherwell.

I think you can do it if you are starting from a position of strenght and have a systematic succession plan at your club. Brighton are a great example of doing this well. The replacements have been bought before the need arises and so they are never desperately crying out for their replacement player.

United have fallen so far that we are essentially building the club from scratch and due to some weird things in the market like a dearth of elite strikers and dms, we are paying a hefty premium for each player we target. Hopefully it's something we really improve on but I'm not sure the right people are in place to do this based on recent history.

Okay, he's literally Fiorentina's 16th all-time top scorer. In like two seasons. Penalties or not, his goalscoring record was quite something playing for a mid-table side at best.
I'm not saying Hojlund is not a great prospect, but comparing him to Vlahovic at the time of his transfer is just way off the mark.

Agree with most of this heavily. Relying strictly on a manager to identify every target is at best naive/ignorant, and often times just plain stupid. I actually like all of the potential signings we will make this summer, especially after Mount. But I'd be kidding myself if I said I wasn't a bit concerned that almost every target we seem to have in these windows has some prior link to ETH

I don’t want anything. I’m just saying the more money a club has the easier it is for that club to do business on its own terms.

Yeah I'm not surprised. It's a ridiculous asking price. That kind of money could be better spent
 
How did it even get to £60m? Feels like originally this lad was being talked about as a £30-40m punt :lol: Atalanta have played a blinder to be fair.
 
Smells like brief, not letting the Italian media dictate how we are doing business it seems. Still think it gets done but we are playing hardball, which is good.

We’ve spent about 170m on the right wing in the last 2 summer windows ETH isn’t going to replace Anthony after spending 90m last summer

We need a striker and if our only target was Hojlund then every single member of that transfer team need firing

I do agree we should fill the squad with any old crap though it needs to be the right player
