It’s curious that as soon as we got wind that the Kane deal would be too expensive and not something we could do we had reports of walking away immediately. Not happened here so I still think we’re negotiating for the time being with the hopes of a deal being done, be interesting to see who the striker signing will be from here on out

Oh yeah we are definitely still negotiating

I think they have not finalised the price on Onana yet -- which to me is a much higher priority than Hojlund at the moment. Once we are about to conclude the Onana deal, then we know how much flexibility we ahve with the striker -- and how much we will need to recoup from the outgoing sales.

With greenwood going the other way it surely can’t be that crazy of a deal? Yes they’ll obviously want a sell on and achievable add ons. From their point of view they don’t want the player to go and explode and then in 2 seasons be worth double what we paid them (however unlikely that is) 85 million is laughable but It’ll surely be more expensive than Amad as they’ve paid for him and given him ample minutes and exposure to develop. I’d say it’ll hit 70 with add ons, which is insane for one season of football and a player who looks like someone who will be a hard working team player and not some generational talent…

I’ve been saying it for years . Each year grab a few of these second contract prospects when they are raw as hell, still 20 million and under if you rate them and loan them out. Worst case scenario you break even or make a small loss and go again. Best case you’ve two amazing players coming back at a similar age and you can make a small fortune off one, especially with FFP the way it is now when you have to sell to buy or almost every mega transfer needs to be a success.

How much do you see that deal being sealed at

Dunno what 'journalist' has pulled £85m out of their arse but obviously we shouldn't spend that on him. There are some perfectly sensible reliable journeymen out there (I'm not talking Weghorst here) scoring 20 goals a season who we could get for less than half that.

The eye test says Hojlund is a special talent and worth 'overspending' to the tune of maybe up to £55m-ish in the current market and with the United tax. That's an eye-watering figure but worth it if our scouts and ETH have all done the homework and are on board. More than that is laughable though.

This should be a straightforward transfer. Sick of stories dragging out constantly with United.

I think with his history of being a United fan as a kid, this should be no problem, I reckon he'll kick up a fuss to push this through as it might not happen again if not now.

We're gonna walk into the season with no striker and have a tragic opening. Utd will panic will blow 80 million on Rasmus. He'll underwhelming at best.

85 M is ridiculous. 20M more and you get Harry Kane.

We'll go into the season with Joe Hugill. He can aim from clear position, that's already upgrade in a way.

As soon as we paid ridiculous money for Antony, quoted prices like this were inevitable.

I don't get how we will say "nah feck Levy hel ask for stupid money for Kane" but sit at the table with Atalanta when they want 4x the worth of Hojlund

Italian teams are the biggest piss takers in Europe. Expect massive fees for their players then offer peanuts when they are buying.

If that's true we should just walk away. Don't want another Antony type of paying over the odds signing. Just not worth it.

This is such a crazy market for no.9. We should just forget it.

Maybe just get Taremi for 20m, and try to play Rashford more as CF, or even get someone to play false 9 instead.

Anything more thne £50m for him is crazy money.

Might as well try and get Evan Ferguson instead if we're talking silly cash.

If true wtf they're smoking there tbh. This kid doesn't worth even half of that ffs. They're getting too greedy really.
They don't want to sell him, which is fair enough. Demanding such a fee for him makes sense from their perspective. Either he fails to live up to his potential and they'll never be able to demand such a fee for him again (so get it banked now), or he goes on to be the next Haaland and clubs will be queueing up to pay this much and more in a couple of years. Add in the fact that they're dealing with a club that's known to be desperate for a striker and has drastically overpaid for players in recent years, and it'd be silly not to make the most of the situation.

If they're looking at something like £60m or beyond, I'd be much more inclined to go for Evan Ferguson now.

United fan, so he might push for it if we gave guarantees that he'd be our first choice #9

EDIT: I did type the above before @Annihilate Now! edited his post and inadvertently made me look like a copy cat

Yeah anything above the £60million range and we might as well go big on Kane, Ferguson or even Ramos.

Yup, even Osimhen.

Even at under 50 there's no guarantee he gets us closer to winning the league. Stupid valuation.

United wont pay 85mil. I can see United and Atalanta meeting in the middle at around 55mil.

He is on a 5 year deal at Atalanta, which has 4 years left on it.

It is not often that a club like Atalanta has an opportunity to sell a player to a top Premier league club, so why would they not try and milk every penny out of it?

United are up against FFP. There is not the scope to or money to spend on Kane, Ferguson or Ramon when 60mil has been spent on Mount and another 50mil about to go on Onano.

His point is that at the price now quoted (exclusively by Whitwell, admittedly), Ferguson or Ramos might be the same or even less than Hojlund. That said, Kane would still obviously be more, despite the fact Bayern are bidding low so far.

We should simply walk away then imo. Having him or not isn't a make or break for us anyway to overpay that much. Just not worth it. Might as well promote a random lad from our academy for the number. Not a big difference imo.

Exactly, so if you think, it doesn't make sense, there's been completely conflicting reports from everywhere on how much Atalanta want for him.. there's no way we'll sit at the table for Hojlund of all players if we wouldn't do it for Kane.. which should tell you that it's probably BS

Based on the discussion in the Greenwood thread before it's closed and the asking price of Hojlund keep reportedly getting crazier and crazier imo it's getting more and more likely we'd keep Greenwood. Like hell those leechers would pay 85m for Hojlund.

Chelsea apparently wanted 85m for Mount, I'm pretty sure they would likely accept 60m euros as has been reported all along outside of England
