Rasmus Højlund | Manchester United Player | Shirt Nr 11

Looks like Fred is the only squad member that has had the door shut on him coming back...Maguire. McTom, VDB have all played some part in pre season.

Apart from shirt numbers, it would be good to get an estimate to how long Hojlund is going to be out injured?

is anyone believing this tripe? 47 times - why so many?

United PR machine is so desperate to make it look like they have their house in order.

He'd played 41 games in the Championship and numerous matches in the youth teams by that point, probably several in matches against United.

We've always scouted young english players. Our academy has loads of them.

Youth scouting is closely related to senior though. I did a bit of work with United's senior scouting department a few years ago and they would routinely bring up 16-year-olds who would have been monitored for several seasons.
Youth scouting is closely related to first team scouting and the DoF is the one who connects all department on the football side of the club. But both recruitment structures at first team level and youth level operate independently from each other. There's separate heads of recruitment at first team level and separate heads of recruitment at youth level. David Harrison runs the recruitment at youth level and it was Lawlor and Bout running the first team scouting until they were released last year.

The point was that it's normal for big clubs to follow young players at a very young age. And we've even had youth scouts like Rene Moonen at the club who have gone on record and stated he watches between 300 to 400 games every season scouting youth players in Holland. And people are surprised United have watched a young player like Bellingham 47 times since he was 11.

That 47 times probably means an official United scout (or independently contracted scout for United) watched FC Copenhagen 47 times in which Hojlund played, probably watching the game for any standout talents playing rather than just one
player (in this case Hojlund) and it’s probably easy to do that in Denmark considering Copenhagen are the biggest club there.

The number 47 is for Bellingham

He’s not injured, he picked up something minor in pre-season with Atalanta which means whilst he currently isn’t injured, he isn’t fully match fit either so it will take a few weeks to get him up to speed and then he’ll be bedded in is whats being reported. No definitive time in reports because it could be 2 weeks it could be 4 nobody knows. He’s due to start training tomorrow, if he was injured he wouldn’t be training

at least they were there supporting the club. Where were you, tenholes?
I was watching the match on MUTV for free on manutd interweb website but I signed up so I contributed to their registered user count. I also chose a very interesting username (ronaldo20072023) 2007 being the year of him becoming a legend and 2023 when he ruined it so I know the history of the club very well. Also, as I said if someone was going to join my birthday party and they had written the wrong name on their gift or whatever then I'd rather them not to join the party.

Yeah why watch the player in so many games, professional scouts can take leaf out of Caf's expert scouting technique of watching 5-10 mins YouTube videos.

If we have monitored him since his days in Copenhagen, why don’t we make a move for him earlier then? He only cost 1.8m at that time. Typical United way of buying players - monitored the player until his value skyrocket.

Most of ManUnited scouts are probably outsourced. Dave the property marketer was scouting this kid in Copenhagen when the property market was slow. But Ed Woodward didn't hear him and too busy stopping players from going to Spain.

We watch 100s and 1000s of players, we won't sign every player we watch.

Unless i am reading it completely wrong, but 47 times watch point was for Bellingham.

Caf The vortex of 20/20 hindsight experts.

Exactly, imagine asking why scout a player so many times especially the young player who was yet to play for first team.

A lot speculation is 17, so we need to move Fred on first before it's officially revealed.

And if he's really injured and won't be playing for a couple of matchdays, there doesn't seem to be a big rush to do so.
Didn't know he's injured. How much he's out for?

It’ll be announced on Friday 11th. Mark my words.

All managers will be having their press conferences ahead of the first game. Media will be running around busy trying to cover it all. Team news etc

United will briefly announce on the website on Friday afternoon, after ETH has finished his press and disappeared, that Greenwood is being integrated back into the academy to commence training.

It will get some attention of course, then everyone will be busy over the weekend following all the games. Burnley are playing City on Friday night, so that will take the initial heat off on Friday night, then a busy weekend full of first games.

United play on Monday night, so we can avoid the first wave of attention. Sure ETH will likely be asked a few questions on Monday night, but everyone is busy getting home from work etc and Monday night coverage just isn’t the same as weekends.
I think you might know something about PR

Since you probably know more about this than anyone I know: do scouting depts ever literally scout kids playing in the park while playing in local leagues or in even more informal settings? Me and my mates would always love to speculate whether such and such guy who'd been watching the from the sidelines was a scout for Arsenal or whatnot.

Not that I know. I worked with 3 PL clubs.

I agree. What they do is nothing short of incredible. From the outside we have no idea as football fans, the work they put in. I remember PSG asking me about Vlahovic in early 2016 and only this summer have they been vaguely rumoured to be in for him.

You have to beat competition by being quicker to identify a talent and then quicker to convince him to join, provided he keeps improving. Most 16 year olds never make it although they looked the part at youth level.

With that being said, most first team scouts would know of top-notch youth talent.

He's injured no? Unless he's in full fledged training with the first team.
From all the reports I saw, he is starting to train right away, so I gather he was injured and now only lacking match fitness.

It's all a bit confusing because reports say he is in full training but lacking fitness but he was literally training and playing pre season with Atalanta.

I reckon he could play from week one but really we just want to give him more time to get up to speed

There's different levels of training. Him starting to train could well mean light training.

i think that report is plausible. There's a reason why we rolled the red carpet for jude and his father, we even got SAF to greet them.

Quick translation:

Højlund:
Well of course it's huge. Having to play for the club that I dreamed of when I was very small. It is only something you can dream about. So of course I am happy and proud of that.

It is of course nice to be able to say that Christian is here now. He has welcomed me very well. He called himself "Agent-Christian" towards the summer because he did his job well behind the scenes.

Journalist:
Agent Christian, you have to elaborate on that.

Højlund:
No, now I'm also making it sound like he negotiated my deal, but he just asked if I wanted to come over here and that they were really hooked on me. That I was an exciting player. If I shouldn't go talk to my people and see if we could get the work done on it because they were interested. He (Christian) wanted to get another Dane over here. He could see that the way they (United) play and the way I play would be a good match. Yes, we just talked a lot back and forth, and got to talk about things.
