Rasmus Højlund | Manchester United Player | Shirt Nr 11

Yet again you have absolutely nothing constructive to say. True to form, I see.
To you? No, why would I? It's not like you do anything but piss and moan, so why should anyone waste time and energy by putting effort into a reply to you?

Surely this counts as a crime. It's similar to writing the wrong name on a birthday cake.
Imagine how hard they worked on it

I started laughing as soon as they zoomed in on it.

is anyone believing this tripe? 47 times - why so many?

United PR machine is so desperate to make it look like they have their house in order.

So stop quoting me, weirdo.

 Unforgiveable in the internet age. Reminds me of that episode in the Simpsons where they turn up with ‘Moo’ instead of ‘Moe’ on body paint.

It's pretty normal for most top clubs to scout players from a very young age. United's scouting at youth level works separately from the club's first teal scouting with youth scouts dedicated to scouting kids from a very young age. I actually mentioned in one of my posts last week about United following the player since he was playing in Denmark.

He was obviously precocious - maybe they tried to sign him for the academy a couple of times after encountering him playing against our age groups at different levels, and sent scouts to games in which he was playing to also scout other players on same/opposite at the same time (unlikely every visit was solely to see him, at least) , but his family preferred for him to stay at Birmingham. For better or worse, they seem pretty single-minded in directing his career and it's obviously worked well enough so far. Though 47 does sounds excessive - 20 or something sounds more plausible...

It's funny because I think it was Whitwell from Athletic who said that Hojlund wasn't on the list as highly and they pushed for Kolo Muani, but Ten Hag wanted him.

So athletic are basically saying we watched him loads and he still wasn't really that high up? nice PR spin attempt if so

Promising payer, but not worth the fee. Scored nine goals in leauge last season out of Atalanta’s 66. For ten million more we could have got Kane.
For 10 million more we still wouldn’t have got Kane. Wouldn’t even get his right foot for that. They wouldn’t sell to us for anything less than 150m. Bayern may get him for 90-100m.

Both can be true. Watched him loads cause there was potential but wasn't on the list thinking he wasn't ready for the first team?

Right but that doesn't really put a good PR on Hojlund. Basically saying the club didn't really think he was ready but Ten Hag pushed

Idk, I don't see it that way. It seems we saw the potential for a while but took Ten Hag to fastforward the move to get him signed for the first team. Isn't it how we see it as well? He has potential but its an experiment whether he's ready to lead the attack for United. Its an exciting one though.

He actually says that Højlund wasn't mentioned in an earlier interview, but Ramos was, along with a couple of others. That doesn't mean he wasn't in the list, would be weird to name drop everyone they were looking into.

I'm also not sure Højlund had played that much for Atalanta at that point in the season. He started appearing more in the second half of the season, also for Denmark.

Targets can change.

That 47 times probably means an official United scout (or independently contracted scout for United) watched FC Copenhagen 47 times in which Hojlund played, probably watching the game for any standout talents playing rather than just one
player (in this case Hojlund) and it’s probably easy to do that in Denmark considering Copenhagen are the biggest club there.

To be fair, it that was a PR attempt it doesn’t doesn’t exactly make us look competent.

Murtough, Arnold et al are clearly very aware of their negative perception in the transfer market. He didn’t miss his opportunity to remind everyone he’s done a really good job this summer in the Hojlund press release.

Perhaps I’m just being cynical though.

Which number will he wear?
A lot speculation is 17, so we need to move Fred on first before it's officially revealed.

And if he's really injured and won't be playing for a couple of matchdays, there doesn't seem to be a big rush to do so.

You’ll hear pundits saying we overpaid massively but you didn’t hear that with Nunez who has the same amount of goals but started more games, or mudryk for Chelsea who I don’t even think has a goal does he?

Just ignore the daft tweets.

Opinions change...all 3 need time and all 3 could still turn out great.

In 5 years time we will know if any of them were worth the price tags

Bit different though isn’t it tbf - Nunez was actually signed on the back of 26 goals in 28 games whereas Rasmus is being signed on the back of 9 goals.

Not saying Rasmus will be worse or better than Darwin.

I can appreciate their effort. Given the 5 brain cells they have it could have been worse. Could have been WELL CUM HØJLUND theatrically in your dreams.

Ye but I’d say the Italian league is better than the Portuguese league. Also the same thing applies about the starts. Nunez started every game for Benfica, Hojlund was on the bench a lot. And Nunez played for a team that dominates their league, Hojlund played for like the 4th best team in their league.

There seems to be quotes and screengrabs of an interview he did going around but I cannot find it anywhere, anyone got a link?

Youth scouting is closely related to senior though. I did a bit of work with United's senior scouting department a few years ago and they would routinely bring up 16-year-olds who would have been monitored for several seasons.

He'll get #17 when Fred leaves. Fred hasn't played a minute of preseason for us so he's 100% out the door. Shame that Dalot has #20, since RVP I just love this number on strikers.

Since you probably know more about this than anyone I know: do scouting depts ever literally scout kids playing in the park while playing in local leagues or in even more informal settings? Me and my mates would always love to speculate whether such and such guy who'd been watching the from the sidelines was a scout for Arsenal or whatnot.

Should be given the number 9 as he’ll be our starting ST. But I think he’ll get Fred’s number when he moves. Didn’t he wear 17 at Atalanta?
