Great touch and movement by him to win us the penalty.

The chance that fell to Zirkzee would have been perfect for Hojlund, beat the defender with his pace and then finish, unfortunately he was taken off minutes before.

Feel so sorry for him. He make countless runs in behind and no one seems to have the belief or ability to put him through. There was a cross from Rashford which he overhit and Hojlund timed his run perfectly.

Poor game, but still not even close to as bad as the wingers, and in the end he did get us the pen.

Why is he being subbed? Even if he has a shocker, the alternative is so much of a drop off that we're putting ourselves at a disadvantage making the sub.

Give him a constant run of games and stop the stop / start nonsense with a striker.

Nonsense. He saw plenty of the ball in the first half but was too weak to keep it. When he tried to play others in he was almost always playing the ball too late. He was awful today.

For a lad of his size and strength, he seems quite easily dispossessed or thrown out of balance. Sometimes takes too long to release the ball. Supposedly he will be a focal point of Amorim's system, so he needs to get it sorted out. That being said, it doesn't help the rest of the attack is dumpster fire.

His runs off the ball are so overrated. Actually he more often than not chooses some bizarre moments to position himself.

He's just not a natural in the box either.

I just dont see a top forward in him.

His hold up play was very good today. He offers more than just goals. I'm confident he'll be a success at United.

Just doesn’t get the service. I can’t think of more than 2 chances he’s had in the last 3 games. Impossible to judge him until people start making chances for him.

Hes overall play seems fine.

Felt like he spent most of the time either on the floor or doing grecco Roman wrestling.

And even through just doing that he's a million times better then Zirkzee

I don't really see what was so shit about him today. He wasn't dangerous, I agree, but he occupied two defenders and opened up a lot of space for Garnacho and Rashford to take advantage of. He held the ball up well too, and was fouled often. It is good to see him improving his hold up play.

He also won the penalty, and almost assisted Garnacho (could have been Rashford if he didn't jump over it). But yeah, he did feck up two attacks by delaying the pass. Not really sure he deserves posts like "shit" because of it, though. He is quite clearly still learning, obviously. He is 21, but to me, I think it is promising that some of his general play is improving.

I sometimes don't just worry about his ability to be a top quality striker but I also sometimes wonder about his abilities just as a top tier football player capable playing for a league winning club.

He seems like he can't do some simple things very well & we are not exactly asking him to play like Berbatov.

Hopefully Amorim can get a grip on him, otherwise I honestly won't be surprised to see Obi Martin take his place or even Rashford play as the striker because even though it isnt Rashford favoured position - I don't think we are exactly missing out by playing him as the striker imo if Amorim can make him press more; which is still different to asking him to track back & sorts out playing Garnacho & Rashford & even Amad in the same team.

Where did I say he wasn't poor? I'm saying he makes runs and isn't found. Fofana and Hojlund battles well but he was involved in the penalty too when he managed to be fed.

Sorry bros but Gyokerers at least is strong.
I mean Højlund literally held off two defenders simultaneously multiple times today. Should have gotten more freekicks, but this ref was seriously garbage.

He made several nice runs. One that was directly after Bruno's free kick. He made himself available for a cut back but Garnacho predictably passed it right into the keeper instead of opting for the cut back.

I wish he was on for the chance that fell to Zirkzee. Would've at least gotten a shot away.

You made excuses and never said he was poor.

There were about 4 separate times where he could’ve played someone in and dawdled on it until either the chance was gone, his teammate was offside or he got tackled. You have to be a Haaland level poacher to be that poor at the actual football part. Still young and needs a good run under the new manager but worrying signs

When did he even win a battle with the Chelsea centrehalves?

He failed to even put a shot away when he was put through.

Every minute Zirkzee plays benefits Hojlund's status. I thought Hojlund was pretty poor overall again, he's a young player with plenty of scope to improve but he's currently miles off being good enough, yet then Zirkzee comes on and suddenly Hojlund's performance looks great in comparison.

Never said he was good either, did I? So didn't you see the runs he made or just ignoring the point I was making?

He's raw and needs coaching, like most of our attacking players.

Some good, some bad. Won a pen and would have had 3-4 more free kicks if he was wearing a blue shirt.

I feel like he scores that chance that fell to Zirkzee immediately after the sub - he at least gets clear of the defender and has a 1v1, Zirkzee was running in treacle. Probably the best forward on the pitch by default because everybody else either did nowt or had a mare.

Chicarito Hernandez, now there was a goal poacher. Constantly on the move in and around the box.

He won several times. What were you watching? Holding up the ball and passing it is winning a duel. Sofascore says he won 6 duels, and he was fouled 5 times, so you could add another 5 to that.

When was he put through? Genuinely curious as I don't remember that.

Wish he could sort out and release his passes earlier. He seems to get a harsh deal from refs most games who don't give him even half the free kicks he deserves.

Really unsure on what this guy’s trajectory will look like. Some untapped potential there but to what extent - a half decent Premier League striker capable of, possibly 12-15 PL good a season?

Regardless of age, there’s only so long you can persist with that of your starting striker. Like his attitude and application but would be surprised (pleasantly) if he develops into a class forward.

Can understand the criticism but I will say he seems to be using his strength a lot more this season and he's not anonymous like he was at times last season. Some improvement at least. Hope he can build on it.

Mate, he was terrible. I don't know how you defend that performance.

Let's see what a good coach can do with him first, it's pretty obvious ETH failed in all areas of the pitch, we have no possession game which means he disease get in the box as much, his first touch in the box was the pen.

Best forward today, but the rest have been terrible. He was ok
Totally agree he wants to do well for United, the reality is everyone else in our three/four are currently simply not good enough, Bruno gives the ball away so much but when his older brother Amorim starts, he’ll start to be good as an inside left or right 10, we desperately need new options up front and it’s time to prioritise an elite left footed right attacker and a CFW.

We really don’t have a lot of cash so we now have to try and sell not just Antony but either Zirkzee or Marcus for the good of the squad and the team.

Yes a left footed wing back is priority number 1, bit so to is a proper elite Number 9, Rasmus can share the work load with Gyokeres but he will start from the bench, then we need a baller like Brian Mbeumo to pay in that inside right.

We need goals, we need creativity however I do think Mazraoui, De Ligt, Yoro and Ugarte will all be good signings.

The club is rumoured to have £40m for January, in the same we were decisive with a new head coach, we need to sell Marcus or Zirkzee for £50m or £35m, add that to the Antony £20m and Sancho £25m in the summer. I don’t think Marcus or Zirkzee go in winter however we should get rid of both if someone offers us £75m, then get Mbeumo and Gyokeres as replacements.

Yes we need a left wing back and young Alvaro at £16.5m but back is a no brainier, Casemiro, Ugarte, Eriksen , Mainoo, Mount can cover the 2 midfield positions until the summer but if we don’t upgrade at least one of front three we will struggle to finish in the Top 10, let alone top 4/5.

We need to go all in Gyokeres or Brian Mbeumo in January and let Højlund learn however at some point 3412 works as well and he could develop alongside Mbeumo or Gyokeres.

This is a reasonable take. I still can’t understand why some fans only come in here to write that he’s shite. Yea, he lost possession but he also held the ball well, played a brilliant pass to Rashford that ended up at Garnachos feet who should’ve scored, and got us a penalty after showing off some fine technique. Confirmation bias is a strong heuristic, but why do people want to see him fail?
