Rashford out partying at nightclub hours before reporting as too ill to attend training

Cant believe there's people in here still defending this guy. And then you wonder why our dressing room is such a joke when senior players don't give a feck.

Can only think he's one of their favourite players so they feel the need to defend him at all costs.

Do club have balls to sell him? Or is Rashford too much of an asset

They wouldn’t even be able to find a buyer. No top club would be interested in Rashford, and his wages would be to high he won’t want to take a pay cut even if he does become a bench player. Also not even a Saudi club would be interested in him after this train wreck of a season.

The club simply got duped by Rashford and his PR team, one of the clubs worst decisions in the last decade was giving Rashford that new contract.

We've form for allowing players to play shite for 95 per cent of their time here and then give them a huge pay rise when they find form with a few months to go before a contract renewal.

Rashford is probably exhibit A in fairness.

We really do have some of the stupidest players don't we. Hopefully a fine and possible a week out of the team makes him fix his attitude and we don't have another repeat.

Nah he was spoken too after being out after the City defeat. Then he missed training after being dropped to the bench against Bournemouth (early December) and now this issue. Seems like a trend is starting to appear with Marcus.

His form, the way he walked around the pitch for 4 months under Ragnick, his 1 in 3 seasons of being somewhat consistent. Awful attitude.

Most inconsistent player I have ever seen, with biggest variation on his highs and lows.

We couldn't give him away at this point as no one who would want him could afford his wages. Him and his PR team have done a right number on us.

From Ten Hag: “He reported ill”, “"It's an internal matter. I will deal with it.”

What’s your thoughts on this? Do you think Rashford has behaved normally?

Ten Hag showing naivety in how he speaks to the press and feeding negative a story again there.

If the club officially say he's ill then in public you say he's ill and that's it. By saying it's an internal matter that he'll deal with he's all but confirmed the story, playing right into the media's hands and giving them the opportunity to drag out another negative story surrounding the club for days or weeks.

If it's an internal matter, here's an idea keep it internal and don't say shit. Deal with it and dish out punishment if needed in private. Nothing can be gained by having this play out in public and giving the United hating press something to feed on.

Said it before, I think he needs training in how to deal with the media.

How is he playing it out in public? How is he feeding them a negative story? By simply saying it’s an internal matter? It’s not if Ten Hag sent out a memo here stating that Rashford was out clubbing two nights in a row.

Everyone is well aware of the situation. Stating it’s an internal matter to the press it he least of our concerns. What was the alternative? «No comment»? It’s not as if the information isn’t already out there.

Were you as negative when Fergie openly stated he didn’t include Gibson, Rooney and Evans in the squad because they went on a night out?

I don't think anyone's defending him for this. He made a mistake and should rightly be punished for it.

Do I think the criticism of him in general goes overboard? Yes. I don't believe he's this diva people make him out to be. Something's definitely wrong mentally at the moment, but he need to sort it out.

Fans will always have a player to scapegoat though. De Gea last year, Maguire year before that. This year it's obviously Rashford.

How he responds to this punishment is key though. If he spits his dummy out and does a Sancho, off ya go. Past experience says he'll take it on the chin and move on.

The media are not going to swallow 'he was sick' while that same media has footage of him partying. The only person that has confirmed that he wasn't sick is Rashford. If club says he's sick, Ten Hag echoes it and Rashford lays low then there's no story. But the minute Rashford pulls a sickie then allows himself to be filmed in a nightclub or whatever. How on earth is Ten Hag supposed to stick to the 'he was sick' line? Honestly in as much as he's made some media mistakes. This wasn't one of them. If Klopp or Guardiola were questioned about it and gave the same reply people would be praising their hard line (keep it in house) attitude. Ten Hag is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't .

Jesus christ what a silly thing to blame him for.

He has to answer the question - saying its an internal matter is the least controversial thing that could have come out of his mouth.

Didn't have a problem with him going out after the City game, think players are entitled to have a life out of football.

But missing training because you've been on the piss two nights in a row is a joke. Needs dropping.

Exactly my take. Had no problem with him being out after a loss. if true, this is different though. Clearly a big problem with him.

I guess this is another issue that you will be sitting on the fence over and have no real opinion on?
It's ok to not have an opinion (although mine is that this is another molehill being made into a mountain by people that need to vent because). It's ok to just observe...

I hope Rashford and Shaw are sold in the summer.

A brand new left hand side of players would be great. Two players that didn't let a number of our managers down. Especially Jose, Ole, Rangnick and Ten Hag.

Neither of these weak mentality players would do any better even if we did change the manager again. So get rid of them once and for all.

Summer clearout of Shaw, Rashford and Sancho will feel great. Replacing them with better personalities and characters will raise the floor so much.

Martial is being released too and can be replaced with an actual striker who will be physically and mentally present.

Exciting times. Man United have a big opportunity here to do the right thing and properly turn the corner on years of bullshit.

We've started the clearout job with Ole, and Ten Hag carried it on. He's a few players away from having a good group of people and players now.

Hopefully the summer will allow INEOS to show they're for real and make the changes we need. Hopefully by then we have the director of football and head of recruitment we need to work with Ten Hag and Berrada to replace these 4 chumps.

I agree. I’ve seen people calling for him to be sold over this anddemoted to the reserves, despite not actually seeming to be very clear on what actually happened.

Of course, if he missed training because he decided to stay out to 2am he should obviously be fined. We should also ensure we have someone speaking to him to understand whether there’s any root cause unhappiness. However, it’s obviously important the club confirms the exact sequence of events before deciding on what action to take.
I'm talking about your comments actually

I don’t think it’s that simple, but maybe it’s just me. Rooney kept showing up for pre-season overweight, but he’d shed the extra weight off in no-time due to his young age and intensity levels. The older you get the more difficult it gets, and it also increases the risks of injuries. Essentially, your lifestyle outside of football is generally accepted as long as you are performing, if you’re not performing and still going clubbing then not so much. Rashford is most definetely in the not so much bracket. Hazard didn‘t have the mentality either, kept showing up for pre-season overweight, results in injuries, achieving full fitness takes longer.

Rashfords performances this season has been absolutely dire. What you generally would expect from a professional footballer at such a high level is that they reduce every off the pitch activity that has a potential negative effect (Which definetely involves going out clubbing) until they reach the level they are expected to be at. Rashford being a local player, no longer a youngster but an experienced player at the club, one of the highest paid players at the club, you expect a lot fecking more at a time where his performances are reminding us of his days under Rangnick.

It’s perfectly understandable that players in their mid-20’s, making millions, don’t have the hunger to keep up with the lifestyle required to be a professional footballer at the highest level. Most don’t. They’ve made it, they’re rich, so they ease off and their performances fall off a cliff. But they desevere no leeway at all for being entitled to have a life outside football that includes activities that will only have a negative effect on their ability to perform.

I have never disliked a Man Utd player as much as I do this absolute prat. I can’t identify one redeeming feature. The sooner he is gone the better, but he seems untouchable.

Selling a world class left back, who many ex-pro’s and pundits a like praise everytime he’s on the pitch, it’s also a world of different when he plays.

But yes let’s sell him because “reasons”

We need a first choice lb that is both solid and consistently available.

Just feck him off to the highest bidder.

Constantly unprofessional - while massively underperforming in his job.

At one point, he was United’s up and coming golden child. Now he’s just a fecking idiot who thinks he is above the club, while being paid a fortune.

Used to love him, now cannot stand him.

Shaw isn’t an issue. He’s a good player who has had injury issue but is an age where we’d be looking for his mid term replacement anyway. We have Malacia, Fernandez and Dalot if needed. Shaw is plenty good enough for the next couple of seasons.

Malacia? Really?

I like Shaw, but we really need a first choice natural left back thats consistently available.

I think that says it all - we have to cast our mind back quite a way to remember him in form.

You need to cast your mind back less than 12 months to remember him in form but I was talking about this idea that he has no redeeming qualities at all. And you need to go back a bit further (but still not very far) to come up with some incredibly obvious ones.

I can't substantiate but I've heard that he's always been a bit of a party boy and it seems like it's only recently he's getting exposed in the media for it.

I assume he's talking about forcing the government u turn on feeding hungry kids. Yes, it's not football related but it's certainly a redeeming feature which ie what poster mentioned.

You're aware that their are pictures of Rashford coming out of clubs over a period of a couple of nights, vaping and drinking and then the media have reported that he's "phoned in sick" in the next for training after partying until the early hours?

He's told the truth, which everyone knows, which is Rashford has phoned in sick for work and he's shown that that bullshit isn't going to fly at United. I'd much rather he sent our a strong message that the club and fans won't be made a joke of by Rashford.

I think Rashford is great - he's my favourite footballer, but thats for non footballing reasons. Unfortunately I think he's far too streaky in his professional performances.

Who would we sell him to? No top side would be interested in him because he's not good enough, but he's paid as though he's one of the world's top players, so the likes of Everton, West Ham or other clubs at his level would be able to afford him.

But it's ok to have an opinion on someone else who dares to form an opinion?

That must be some comfortable fence you've found yourself again.

Many molehills will soon form a mountain, this isn't an isolated incident.
