Whilst he’s been playing well enough the past 3 months, I haven’t forgot the 18 months before that.

And cynically you can theorise that this improved form could be down to contract running out soon, and the second he gets that juicy contract with more money, he reverts back to that previous form. You can also say that the past 3 months has been down to him being coached by ETH who is by far a superior coach to Solskjaer, who in my opinion ran Rashford into the ground.

I would hold fire for now. The shoddy way the club has been run the past couple years has resulted in him being paid such a high wage that he probably shouldn’t be on at this moment in time (thanks Woodward you tool) and once you hit that £200k a week and above scale, you‘re going to be expected to perform at a reasonably high level constantly to justify that or face being subject at being the first out the door if you’re not pulling your weight, because that £200k a week can be split two ways to two new players who can replace you.

He's been in your first team for more than 5 years. The last few months surely won't have made much of a difference on how he's rated.
Didn’t he have a broken back for a good bit of that, and then delayed surgery to make himself available for England duty?

I like Rashford. What could we trade Rashford in for? On his wages could we get a world-beater? I think he’s recovered his form. It we could probably get Rabiot and Griezmann for the same money as a new contract for Rashford (as an example).

You need to change your name. You don't deserve to name yourself after the youth if this is your attitude. He had a bad season. The whole team did. That doesn't mean you give up on a player who is clearly one of our best attacking players
Your attitude is the reason why we are shit. Lowering the standard just because the player is from academy. Player is getting high wages and is allowed to be lazy. And look at now they are being spoiled.

Furthermore, imagine making a big deal about my user-name that cost nothing, but not making a big deal about player being lazy on the pitch after getting 200k p/w. I know there are others deserve more for that wages.

No. We were talking about last season.

Well you can't say he didn't put himself on the line for the club in the isolation of just one season. Playing through the pretty serious back injury he had buys him a year or two in my book.

Last season he was coming back from injury, in a team in crisis and when Rangnick arrived he was shunted out to the right wing and then barely started from February/March onwards.

He was lazy when he playing through injury and was still lazy after he has recovered from his injury. Regardless playing right or left or centre, it shouldn’t stop the player to run and press opposition players. Players can play bad, but the work rate should remain to at least give a feck. Bruno despite of playing left right or centre always run and press opposition players. I’m a hard working myself at my own professional and it is my nature of cannot stand with players who are being lazy.

Lazy while playing with a serious back injury?

Yeah ok mate. He had one bad season for feck sake, coincidentally in a season when pretty much to a man the entire squad had a bad season.

Ok mate, you are not reading again. I already Told you He didn’t have back injury last season and still lazy. One Bad season is very debatable here in the standard of top level.

Wait, am I a City supporter now because I don't think Rashford is worth £300k+ a week?

It likely comes down to picking Sancho or Rashford, unless you think Garnacho is a flight risk to Spain at all or there's a solid chance he won't become the quality player he looks like he's about to become. Basically do you think Garnacho will be pushing for a starting place (or even established there) at the World Cup in 2026?

Unless Sancho can play on the right AND is both fine with fighting with Antony for a job and they can both be pushed higher via rotation and you ride the hot hand and have a top quality winger to bring on after an hour, like City have had over the last few years with Mahrez/Silva/Foden/Sterling/Jesus. It's a bit less optimal in that Sancho and Antony are both creators and assists guys while Garnacho and Rashford should be guys who get more goals than assists, and you'd like to have one each per side, but that's a pretty rich person's problem.

My attitude? If it were up to people like you we would be selling players after one bad year and then buying more "Di Maria's" and the like who couldn't give two shites about the club

Because they speak truth about a player, they should forego their allegiance to their club?

No truth there at all, but more about the fact that if I said "one of our own" they wouldn't understand or appreciate the importance that has meant to this club over the years. They'd rather just go buy another "di maria" or some other clown who doesn't give two shites about the club or it's history

As someone said above, be careful on that lofty 'Top Red' perch. Must be nosebleed-inducing.

Extend for the year and then negotiate a contract renewal over the course of the season. Try to negotiate something akin to 275k but no more than 300k.

He looks fitter, stronger and more motivated than he has done in years. ETH has got hold of him, restored his confidence and brought him on leaps and bounds and is now a key player in our squad.

I don’t think it makes sense to cash in at this stage. It would be very difficult and expensive to find a player of equal or more quality than him. With Ronaldo gone, possibly Martial and then maybe someone like Elanga going if he doesn’t fit anymore, we will count on Rashford more so. Also, there’s the symbolic element of Rashford being the homegrown hero.

What might get overlooked is the stability that United offers Rashford. If he goes to PSG, how many managers will he have to go through there?

A lot has been made of the lack of coaching at United and he would just up and leave now when his career might take off with the right work environment? I think it is something people underestimate.

I am not even mentioning the love he gets here whereas at PSG or a Real Madrid, you'd get whistled when you're as shit as he's been for a season (or longer in my opinion).

For Rashford’s perspective that makes sense. PSG are a modern day big club but the grass isn’t necessarily greener, he is a die hard United supporter, he is playing well for the club he loves and gets plenty of patience and adulation. It makes sense to commit to us if we come in with a good offer.

Why would I buy more Di Maria? Well, guess what, we are still shit now because we did exactly like you want by spoiling lazy players with high wages.

another good young prospect who didn't fulfil his potential - get rid. onwards and upwards

This forum is clearly filled with the type of people who voted to sack Alex Ferguson in 1995. Its certainly up for a discussion whether a move would be the right thing for both club and player, but 85% "sell" is just idiotic fast clickers.

I voted initally to sell him but it was off the back of last season.

ETH rates him highly and has him playing the best football of his career. I know there were periods under Ole that he was good but imo his decision making is a lot better now as is his overall play and he's been our best attacker this season by far.

That's enough for me to change my mind and admit I was wrong.

Under ETH he’s looking like a much better player already, he’s a key player and to sell him now would mean a very expensive replacement. Happy to admit I was wrong about him and changed my mind.

He'll re-sign with us.
Will he definitely though? Quite interesting situation developing there.. With his brother/agent having held meetings with PSG last summer, his big goals against them and new fondness with Mbappe, they have a positive feeling/idea of Rashford there & it's becoming less crazy to actually imagine happening.

Ontop of Khelaifi basically saying they will go after him depending on his contract, they can pay him whatever it takes too. We trigger his extension to stop clubs being able to speak to him officially but the groundwork already seems set if there was to be movement in that direction. Interesting test of Rashfords' resolve this.

"We spoke before, but that moment wasn't the good moment for both sides" - He is speaking with too much confidence for my liking

It's clear Ten Hag rates him and he's been playing better this season. I just hope we don't give improved wages, he's already on huge wages that don't justify his current level. Hopefully meritocracy will be installed under ten Hag.

How is it clear ETH rate him? He wants Gakpo and a striker, two of Rashford best positions. Garnacho also has shown what we're missing from that LW.

We are gonna re-sign him, aren't we? He's not even worth 1/3 of what he is on now.

"If" he's a free agent, he's not going to be.

3/4 of the fan base wanted Sancho so I personally don’t believe in what the fan base say or see.

I still think we have a problem with him letting his contract run down to 18 months. He's at an age where he's going to want a huge contract that will take him into his early 30's. His performances this season certainly suggest an additional incentive.

I imagine this will be somewhere in the region of £100m over 6 years. Along with the loss of a good fee (say £50m) next month; the question is less "new contract or sell" and more "has Rashford shown enough to justify an £150m investment over the next 6 years".

I'd argue not, although that's solely down to the club putting him on a crazy contract when he was 21; which led to the situation in the last 12 months where we were not in a position to offer a good increase to tie him down (had he been on £125k both parties would no doubt have agreed to double his wages even with his poor form).

If PSG are stupid enough to pay 100m, sell him this summer.

He is way too over rated here, he sulks too much and I am sure he will have those period again.

and he is on 200k already, I am sure his agent will demand close to what Sancho is making close to 350k a week (another gift from Woodward)…he isn’t worth anywhere near that…

I guess the question is what would it cost the club to replace Rashford or even better him?

Looking at him without applying any personal biases he’s 25 years old, can play in multiple different positions, has over 300 appearances at the top level for United (and over 100 goals) along with over 50 international caps (15 goals). He’s also home grown and hits the quota.

What would a player like that cost in terms of fee and wages to United? I’d argue you’d be looking to pay between £50-100m easily in terms of a fee then wages in the region of £250-300k.

I’m not great with numbers but I’d argue renewing him looks the much cheaper option even if on the face of it seems expensive. All depends on the numbers.
