Could end up a bit like Herrera, gets offered more money a week by PSG and has been in contact for a long time during a bad spell, starts to play well under another manager but it's too late, the ground work has been done and he's off.

If United are indeed paying Sancho 350k then Rashford will need to be on around that as well but the club may be reluctant.

Or, you know, maybe some people just think his wage demands are going to be unreasonable for a player of his talent. Should we give him an extra £100k a week just because he's "one of our own"?

If we don't PSG will.

I'm guessing this poll would be significantly different if it were ran now.

I think ten Hag will definitely be trying to tie Rashford down to a new deal, and I think Rashford will use the interest of other clubs to improve his wages but will sign eventually.

Fine, let PSG do that.

Another benefit of homegrown talent is that the club realizes 100% profit if / when they are sold to another club.

I trust eth to replace him if they are unable to agree on a new deal. His signings have been mostly spot on so far.
Maybe gakpo is the answer, maybe Sancho if he plays like we know he can.

Based on a vague idea of what footballers should be paid.

Not really. If we where talking about selling off some fringe youth players then yeah but selling off a first team player like Rashford means we'll have to replace him at a stupid cost if history is anything to go off.

And that money realized by the sale helps to defray any future cost to replace the player that was sold.

That's a positive.

Suppose but in the instance of flogging off Rashford specifically we'd need to invest massively to replace him so any fee we get, which won't be that much considering his contract situation probably won't be enough to replace him. Personally can't see anything other than the club renewing just hope he can show he's worthy of it throughout the season.

I'm not calling for his ouster either, I could see him in a rotation with Garnacho in the short term. I don't see the validity in massively upgrading his weekly contract unless it is performance based.

Strange for PSG to make such an outright statement if there's nothing in it. I'm definitely concerned by the potential for the Glazers to sell some of our most valuable players so they can take a last chunk of money out of the club now they're looking to sell it. Obviously I don't want Rashford sold and the poll results even after 1 bad season are pretty shocking tbh. This is a player who got at least 20 goals in each of the previous 2 seasons. Careful what you wish for.

I'd say it's the opposite - they'll want to have the assets (players) at the club as that just adds to the valuation of the club - which is also money they'll make.

Hopefully you're right but I'm not sure individual players like Rashford would make that much difference to how a potential buyer would value the club.

Well when they value the club they will add all the assets together - so Rashford will be included in that.

Apart from Old Trafford, players are easily the most valuable asset the club has.

Pretty sure I said to snap accept the rumored PSG offer in the summer, would still sell if they came in with a better offer.

Or his current run of good form will end and he'll go back to his inconsistent average, he's not the worse for this (that would be Martial) but at some point you have to call it a day. It's a question of consistency and a gamble either way.

Academy or not academy shouldn't be matter. What matter is what the player put on the pitch whether good enough or no. If the player is being lazy, academy or not academy player shouldn't be getting special treatment especially when the player is getting 200k p/w. These players should be using any kinds of criticism as their motivation to be better.

Yes, yes it should matter. An academy kid cares about this club and will put himself on the line to get it done for the club. Of course sometimes it doesn't work out, but we aren't talking about a Keiren Richardson or a Fabio Silva. We are talking about a proven Premier League star. These are the players you nurture and you don't give up on them after one bad season. My god, can you imagine if TheCaf managed this club? We'd be in an even worse mess than we are now...

Rashford was criticised heavily for not putting the work rate last season, that's basically he didn't put himself on the line to get it done for the club.

Star is a big word, not one I would apply to Rashford. He's a decent player, hasn't really had a proper season in at least two seasons now and not looking great this one either so far. When I hear PSG talking about him, I have to wonder what the hell they're even looking at. I wouldn't be interested in Rasford even if he came for free, nevermind paying a fee for him.

I have to laugh at this, and Rashford is not a star, never was and never will be. Are you sure you didn't get a knock to the head? And how do you know how Rashford feels, have you been talking to him lately?

Quality post, can't wait to hear more from you

The same guy who played through ankle, shoulder and a pretty serious back injury for the club over the last few years?

He was just being selfish sacrificing his long term health for his own sake...

trying to sound as ridiculous as some of these posts

Actually star is only 4 letters and perfectly acceptable to use when talking about a player as good as Rashford. Sometimes this place makes me wonder. We really do have some of the worst supporters in all of football

He had a bad season. One bad season. One bad season doesn't mean you give up on a player. Especially one of our own. If you don't understand that, perhaps you should try supporting City or some other bandwagon club

If I've learnt something since SAF left it's that you don't pick individuals the focus is on team.

Rashford is a good player. He has attributes others may not have. But ultimately he has to fit the team build.

For example If we are to sit back and counter Rashford would be the first name on my team sheet. If we are going for possession and more subtle tactics to break a team who has 10 men behind the ball then no I wouldn't have Rashford as the first name.

A team looking to play a certain way Rashford would be a great buy for big money.

I know prices are going daft but a £100m should warrant a better player than Rashford.
That said a player playing in a team being paid big money is sometimes the better option than buying someone who then has to fit in.

I guess my point is there are many variables when looking at a player.

I’m Man United fan not Rashford fan. I don’t pick individual, my focus is on the team’s sake. We won’t give up player who has bad season if they are at least trying, but Rashford was lazy last season so it’s not matter of having bad season. Although, one bad season is debatable in high level of standard.

The decision is Rashford's to make. PSG has openly talked about him so I think the interest and talks are fairly advanced. I think he is gone.
This either opens up options for Garnacho or (and this is wishful thinking of me) Kvaratskhelia.

I know his form has picked up, but don't think I'd change my vote.

It's up to him though, he's not done anything particularly to deserve a bumper new deal - so if he wants to make a success of himself elsewhere, good luck to him.

If we sold him and replace him with someone like Gakpo, I'm not sure we'd really see a great deal of difference in output, with Garnacho coming through too.

He's been shit since 2020 started. So thats 1 and a half season.
With some of you making excuses for him that Ole destroyed him by playing him injured, he can't play on the right side, his girlfriend left him...
Now that he's apparently back is that back injury that was the main issue almost 2 years not a factor anymore right? Because it wasn't a factor even back then
So what give is he back or is he just flattering to deceive because he did well against cannon fodder teams? Only time will tell

You need to change your name. You don't deserve to name yourself after the youth if this is your attitude. He had a bad season. The whole team did. That doesn't mean you give up on a player who is clearly one of our best attacking players

Go support another team. This one isn't for you. You seem more like a City supporter

if you can’t score a free kick in the last knockings of stoppage time then what can you do?

Any moment now...

You need to be careful, top red. Falling off such a high horse can have deadly consequences.
