Yes it is
No he wasn't

Also remember the answers to the poll were to either "ramp up efforts to renew his contract" or "sell him before his current contract expires"

Given those options and his performances last season it would be difficult to say he deserved a new contract, especially after we spent so much time criticising the club for offering silly contracts to players.

It's not fair to use hindsight as a way to suggest fans opinions at the time were wrong

So what you're saying is those 1044 people had no choice but give a stupid answer to a stupid question then

Of course there is a choice to sit on the fence but my point is a lot of fans were frustrated with Rashford last season, football is an emotional sport so you can't blame fans for wanting us to upgrade based on his performances last season.

Of course any player can turn it around and who knows under ETH we may have got the world class version of Pogba or the West Ham version of Lingard but you still can't hold it against fans for wanting them gone based on last seasons shambles.

A lot of fans want Maguire out too, sure he could turn it around but you can't blame people for looking at his performances during the last 12 months and thinking we can massively upgrade

He was really poor, but it looks like mentally he is reqdy again and ETH is the perfect coach to get him to his absolute best

Him being back in form shouldn't change anyone's mind btw. It's been abundantly obvious what his level can be because he's played at it for long periods and that level is more than good enough for United. I'm with @charlenefan on this one, you don't sell a Manchester lad with as much talent as Rashford because he has a bad year (after covid, and a serious injury, in a shit team). It's idiotic short-termism.

Southgate to come crawling back no doubt, wanker he is.

I expect Rashford will still get similar minutes that he did in the Euro's, Southgate will never drop Sterling and to be fair to him Saka's in good enough form that he should be on the right (plus it's his natural position)

Watching someone perform terribly for well over a year isn't a kneejerk reaction. We should stop saying knee-jerk reaction when we mean reaction.

He was probably the worst player of the lot, which is saying something. We really have no idea now bad his injury was and how much it actually affected his football but it didn't affect his decision making which was probably the worst part of his game.

Thankfully he's improving now. Probably mostly because he's under a good manager. Hopefully we get to see his potential, because it's pretty high, although perhaps not as high as it once was.
Absolutely.

Another captain hindsight strikes.

Fair play to Rashford if he can truly turn it around, in the end Manchester United will benefit.

Saka should start i totally agree, Sterling should never start he's shite.

Rashford is a good winger with lots of pace and decent technique but also inconsistent finishing. If you start thinking about him like that then your life will be so much easier. He's never gonna be world class nor the star of the team, but so what? We need good wingers and Rashford fits that description. There are plenty of United players I'd see out the door before him.

Rashford when he is at his best is a world class player and he is one of our own. The fact that he looks like he is enjoying playing football again, gives me hope that he will start putting in performance like today week in and week out, and then we should renew his contract. Hopefully he will also respect that the club stood by him during his bad times and not come with crazy wage demands.

Exactly this. Complete reactionary hysteria that was.

You'd think Rashford had punched Sir Alex.

Scored a good header, but his decision making isn’t good enough, we had a counter down the left he had Luke Shaw bombing down on his left side and rather than laying the ball off to to Shaw, he slowed the attack right down and waited for the West Ham defenders to get back before giving the ball away.

ffs give it a rest

New contract. He’s the only player we have who suits ETH and isn’t injured every 2 weeks, he’s done everything right this season apart from the last part & that should start coming. He also offers versatility and can play across the front 3.

How do you sell him & replace him with an upgrade AND an equal to keep depth ? Most likely one or the other is possible, not both.

Keep, but also sign a Number 9

He's not even back in form yet some here are already jizzing? His decision making is absolutely awful. There were 2 times we had a counter and he decided to go solo instead of passing it including that moment where he shot from outside of the box which would end up as a goal if he went for a cross.
He's a greedy cnut

stick to posting gifs

Ah, the charming "I told you so and youse are all fecking idiots" posts are starting to come in. Neat.

I mean equally if posters want to be abusive and very forceful in their dislike of a player openly then they should fully expect to be highlighted when the player starts to prove them wrong. It is what it is.

He'd be an idiot not to learn from one of the best to ever do it.

Course he’s getting back to form. 15 games, 7 goals, 3 assists. Not bad.

And the chance mentioned he created himself from nothing.

He's done great so far but the question should be (imho) - is he on the level of (or can he get there) of Vini Junior?

I don't think so, so long term we need better but of course the kneejerkers will do their thing.

great to see his confidence back

his fitness looks better too and he has that yard of pace again

his performances are still a bit choppy but you can say that about all our attackers really, it just hasn't clicked yet

but happy for him, I'm pretty certain he'll go to the world cup

He was what??? How was he poor? He was the only one who looked a threat.

If you think he was poor then I shudder to think how you rated Elanga n Ronaldo.

Thought Rashford played quite well myself. Back 5 were the real stand out players today but Rashford was the best of the rest.

You are so far in the Rashford can do no wrong camp that its pointless having a discussion but Ill give it a go.

Rashford might have been the worst player in the whole league last season, not just Utd.
I agree he is playing much better now and all genuine Utd fans are pleased about that but Ill fully judge him at the end of the season.
If he keeps up this from, he absolutely should be offered a new deal but to do so now would be repeating our same old mistakes.

I think the better question would be does it benefit the team to start him now over other options

and the answer is yes

even if we end up with three forwards all better than him (agree it should be the aim) who deserve to start ahead of him, he'll be very decent back-up and he's versatile..

It’s almost like players aren’t perfect and things go wrong sometimes. fecking hell.

What if he’s only arsed now for a new contract ?

He stated he had some issues to deal with off the pitch and was dealing with a lot mentally last season. The seasons prior to that he had two 20+ goal scoring seasons. It makes more sense to me that last season was an anomaly and he's back to his regular level.

He had a poor season yes, but personally think overall his time at United hes been really good. Given our attacking options he should get a new deal but not on crazy money. If he cant accept that then ok.

Players we need to replace before him in the attack:

Ronaldo
Elanga
Martial (due to his injury record)
Sancho

Rashford needs to stay, had a poor spell but hes quite obviously our best goal getter and we need to add goals not lose them
