Rashford and Martial are a problem

Yeah big problem especially Martial who done feck all this season and never step up when needed.

Their body language is awful too. They just stroll around with absolutely no urgency at all.

Rashford and Martial can't play in a team that needs to break down teams.

Rashford needs to run in behind to be effective, he offers nothing as a winger really not against low block teams.

To those who still wonder if we need Sancho it's evident that you won't win a league with Rashford and Martial.

Martial especially should be on his way out this summer.

Martial might not be as deadly but he links up better with the rest of the team. Rarely does his involvement in the build up to us creating an opportunity at goal (even if it isn’t him who gets it) seem awkward or jarring, he’s capable of moving ball quickly. Rashford can move quickly with the ball but he tends to dwell on it.

Talk about timing

I will see you all in 2025, where we will still be saying they are so inconsistent. Nothing will change

Rashford thinking about school meals is a good thing but just don't feed martial!

Seemingly can't beat a man and constantly losing the ball.

Its almost as if he weighs 20 stone and can't run and just always stands waiting for the ball to come to feet.

They are not starters for a title challenging team, a good run of games where they were scoring for fun was the outlier and not the norm.

Martial needs to go, he had his chance and he has blown it, Rashford i would keep as a great sub to have and get in Grealish to replace him.

Rashford was poor but he's at least put in some good performances this season.

Martial has been terrible all season, if he had anything about him he'd be working his arse off pressing and moving around the pitch. For the second goal he gave the ball away and just sauntered back. I'm done with him, Cavani's performances have been overrated on here but his application and effort at 33 just shows how passive Martial is.

but we hear Ole telling us how much they’ll learn from Cavani.

turns out they’re not very good students.

they’ve likely had that attitude on a football pitch since day dot. Hard to train desire. You either got it, or you aint...and they both just skulk around

Rashford has been playing with an injury it seems, still has stinkers but gets an assist or goal. What is Martial's excuse? He was awful once again, people will carry on defending him, but I don't see how after tonight. His work rate, passing, and general play is pitiful. Rather see Greenwood stay on than Rashford get wasted on the RW.

Martial's been useless all season, he should'nt be rewarded with starts with such little output.

Rashford in a nutshell over the past two games, give him space and a rookie defender and he'll skin him. Have your defence play deep and his physicality and athleticism are nullified. He lacks the intelligence to be a top top player.

Worst thing is they both seem to be favourites of Ole's, thought Greenwood was better than both of them today.

I've actually panicked a bit when I see both players start without Cavani in the line-up. This is before today too. Martial's been a lot worse than Rashford, mind.

I don't like this thread. Rashford is not in the same category as Martial. Rashford has shown time and again that he can be a leader in this team. He has carried us at certain points. Even in games where nothing happens for him, he tries. He made runs today, they didn'tcome off, but he made them. Martial on the other hand was ruining any attack made by Pogba, Bruno or Rashford. He was never at the end of any of those balls over the top, didn't make runs either. All he did all game was slow down moves and get in the way. How can a winger play with his back to goal that much. He doesn't get shooting opportunities because he doesn't work for it. Waste of space and talent. He has good close control yet never makes an impact cutting through the middle. Most overrated attacker on the planet and I'm not being kneejerk about this. It's been years.....always absolved of blame due to his age or lack of talent around him or spell of form. This is his form, this is what we have seen most of his career. He has spurts of decent performances, but for the most part this is who he is.

I'll go even further than that, when you watch Villa, Everton, Wolves etc....look how active their attackers are against us. Whenever they even sniff a chance to make a run they take it, even when they aren't good enough to make it work. Inside the box, look how much movement they provide by simply wanting to connect with the ball. I know without a shadow of a doubt that rashford would score goals at a lower/ midtable team, his drive and aggression demands it. Martial, on the other hand makes me question that. If we had not signed him and he stayed at monaco, I doubt he would ever have gotten here. Doesn't cross, doesn't make incisive passes, dribbles to nowhere, terrible at combinations outside of the ones he starts himself, can't come into midfield....just a genuine waste of space masked as a united player. He hides during games.

Martial mentality wise isn't good enough.

Rashford is overrated by a lot on here. Very good player but still has a lot of aspects in his game that he needs to improve.

Obviously kills me to blow smoke up an Arsenal player’s arse but when you watch Saka get the ball you just know he’ll do something positive and effective, 6 or 7 times out of 10. When you watch a top class striker in his prime like Harry Kane you can up that to 8 or 9 times out of 10.

With Rashford that drops to 4 or 5 times out of 10. Now those 4 or 5 times can be very impressive but the other 5 or 6 times are often painfully sloppy.

I don’t even want to think what sort of numbers Martial is putting up.

Greenwood has a long way to go but at least he takes care of the football. It’s bonkers how often the other two kill off our attacks.

This. Not too worried about Rashford. Even in this spell he’s contributed to wins against Liverpool, Wolves and Burnley by having big moments. When Martial is off form he literally contributes feck all and as seen today goes and actually costs the team goals.

Thought experiment for a second.

Imagine you saw Rashford playing for Villa or Brighton or Everton...would his general performance level have you suggesting that this was a Man Utd standard player? I’d say absolutely not. There’s the odd moment of magic. There’s the direct running and good feet which can be effective on the counter. However, overall, his ability to influence games in tight areas or with his back to goal is non-existent

I don’t even want to talk about Martial. Such a disappointment. I was at that game vs Liverpool when he scored on his debut and he hasn’t progressed one bit. He was world class at 18 (for his age) and is now a mediocre 25 year old with a terrible attitude and no fire in his belly. I knew his game was over after three minutes when he took that kick. Towel in.

I included Rashford in the OP because, even though he’s a game-changer, he is unusually wasteful and sloppy for the main man up front at a top club. When he’s a support act for the likes of Cavani that isn’t a problem. When he’s paired with a non-entity like Martial and a kid like Greenwood it’s a recipe for disaster.

I think it's asking a lot for us to maintain a high level with both of them starting. We can't carry both when they're not on it, especially if you've not got Cavani playing. The obviously one to drop is Martial, he's not ever going to be the player we want him to be, and his low effort, and energy is unforgivable really.

I believe in Rashford, but the belief in Martial has been gone for ages for me, it's been more hope than anything else.

Rashford on the right wing is a disaster. Play him on the left wing or take him off, simple.

To be honest, I was more in agreement of his assessment of the difference between Martial and Rashford then the general topic. I do think Rashford has been off a bit this season so it’s understandable that there’ll be question marks. I just think Martial is a whole other level of bad and he’s now hitting it week in week out with literally zero knock back.

Why is rashford being dumped in with Martial? They're worlds apart in terms of what they provide on a game to game basis, especially over the past year.

This. Absolutely can't stand this. Cavani runs rings whilst they stand still until the ball gets passed directly to their feet. How hasn't Ole slaughtered them for this yet?

Rashford cannot start vs small teams, he is useless against stacked defenses. Martial should be sold.

Rashford has been equally bad on the left. Let's not pretend him being shunted to the right is the reason he's been pretty awful for most of this season. Martial I have no excuses for. Sell.

Honestly wouldn’t bother me if Martial never played for us again.

Today made me truly believe Right Wing isn't the only problem across the front 3.

I just dont have confidence in either of these two to deliver consistently on that side. Maybe Martial with a bit of confidence and getting the ball in the right places, but it just seems dead if Shaw isnt there to help give them space, when in fact they have enough talent to do it without that.

Problem is we cant afford to drop them when our backup is Daniel James whose only skill is to run to the byline like its the egg and spoon race.

The two of them for one spot on the left of the front 3. Choose between them. They can't both play especially in games where the space is compressed like tonight. The sooner ole realises this the better.

Cavani has made 6 tackles in 13 PL appearances (often as a sub)

Rashford has made 6 tackles in 20 appearances (never as a sub, I think?)

Martial has made 1 tackle in 16 appearance.

Martial needing a bit of confidence at 25 is pathetic to me, he doesn't have it. No more excuses, he's not getting better, if anything he's getting worse.

At least, Rashford doesn't stop trying. He shows urgency and wants to make things happen.

Martial is the worst forward in Europe. No single forward pass fed to him stuck to his boots. He's just awful, how he's lasted this long at Man Utd is a testament to how badly things are run. He was the closest to Burke for their 2nd goal. All he needed to do was to close the passing lane to prevent the ball from being passed, Martial did nothing.

Useless offensively, hopeless defensively. A lot of fans think the duo would replicate Rooney and Ronaldo, they are several tiers below.

Unfortunately with both in terrible form they're still the best we've got. Says it all.
