Yeah big problem especially Martial who done feck all this season and never step up when needed.
Martial might not be as deadly but he links up better with the rest of the team. Rarely does his involvement in the build up to us creating an opportunity at goal (even if it isn’t him who gets it) seem awkward or jarring, he’s capable of moving ball quickly. Rashford can move quickly with the ball but he tends to dwell on it.
From hero to zero. It takes 3 working days
Their body language is awful too. They just stroll around with absolutely no urgency at all.
We desperately need a proper number 9 to challenge Cavani.
This. Not too worried about Rashford. Even in this spell he’s contributed to wins against Liverpool, Wolves and Burnley by having big moments. When Martial is off form he literally contributes feck all and as seen today goes and actually costs the team goals.I don't like this thread. Rashford is not in the same category as Martial. Rashford has shown time and again that he can be a leader in this team. He has carried us at certain points. Even in games where nothing happens for him, he tries. He made runs today, they didn'tcome off, but he made them. Martial on the other hand was ruining any attack made by Pogba, Bruno or Rashford. He was never at the end of any of those balls over the top, didn't make runs either. All he did all game was slow down moves and get in the way. How can a winger play with his back to goal that much. He doesn't get shooting opportunities because he doesn't work for it. Waste of space and talent. He has good close control yet never makes an impact cutting through the middle. Most overrated attacker on the planet and I'm not being kneejerk about this. It's been years.....always absolved of blame due to his age or lack of talent around him or spell of form. This is his form, this is what we have seen most of his career. He has spurts of decent performances, but for the most part this is who he is.
I'll go even further than that, when you watch Villa, Everton, Wolves etc....look how active their attackers are against us. Whenever they even sniff a chance to make a run they take it, even when they aren't good enough to make it work. Inside the box, look how much movement they provide by simply wanting to connect with the ball. I know without a shadow of a doubt that rashford would score goals at a lower/ midtable team, his drive and aggression demands it. Martial, on the other hand makes me question that. If we had not signed him and he stayed at monaco, I doubt he would ever have gotten here. Doesn't cross, doesn't make incisive passes, dribbles to nowhere, terrible at combinations outside of the ones he starts himself, can't come into midfield....just a genuine waste of space masked as a united player. He hides during games.

To be honest, I was more in agreement of his assessment of the difference between Martial and Rashford then the general topic. I do think Rashford has been off a bit this season so it’s understandable that there’ll be question marks. I just think Martial is a whole other level of bad and he’s now hitting it week in week out with literally zero knock back.I included Rashford in the OP because, even though he’s a game-changer, he is unusually wasteful and sloppy for the main man up front at a top club. When he’s a support act for the likes of Cavani that isn’t a problem. When he’s paired with a non-entity like Martial and a kid like Greenwood it’s a recipe for disaster.

Why is rashford being dumped in with Martial? They're worlds apart in terms of what they provide on a game to game basis, especially over the past year.
This. Absolutely can't stand this. Cavani runs rings whilst they stand still until the ball gets passed directly to their feet. How hasn't Ole slaughtered them for this yet?
Rashford has been equally bad on the left. Let's not pretend him being shunted to the right is the reason he's been pretty awful for most of this season. Martial I have no excuses for. Sell.
