Why? We know that Real don't want to sell him, so it makes total sense for them to wait until he has to report back for training and is stuck with Ancelotti and club executives who will try to convince him to extend.

I don’t think it’s the same situation. Real Madrid and the Spanish league were in a different state in 2015. It never made sense for Ramos to leave for us back then.

It's donezo, man. He wants a new challenge, Madrid can't even afford to pay him what he wants to try and keep him because they gave it all to Alaba, and most importantly he's seen our individualistic brilliance and wants a slice of Ole's pattern of pie.
This smacks of Varane using Utd's name to get a new contract from Real to be honest. Every time Ramos wanted a new deal the Utd rumours would come out.

Do we think the reason that the likes of Stone/Ducker/credible UK press aren't saying anything is down to the club still being worried that Varane returns to Madrid and 180's us? Or should we be genuinely worried that this isn't as advanced as even Fabrizio is making out?

Not massively worried. I think the club realises that it would lose a lot of face amongst supporters if this didn't now happen, especially after the Super League debacle.
If there was any doubt this wasn't on/he was using us to get a contract extensions, we'd have put out stories playing down the links.
well it’s a spaniard who they have no links to, so why would they get word apart from when the club leak stuff?
i’m much more interested in the madrid sources saying that varane is wanting to leave, that’s way more important than ducker and the likes.
