This is done, it's his last big contract and there's no chance Madrid will give in to his salary demands.

We need to finalise this quickly, so that there is enough time to negotiate other important transfers.

Finally we are preparing a bid. Can't finish a transfer without preparing a bid.

If they are going to bid then just fecking bid. Tired of these nonsense tweets.

My Chelsea supporting mate claims rudiger is faster than Varane. The anger trolling has already begun.

Don't know if he's right though!

"Inching"
"Edging"
"So close"

Sounds like my Friday nights on the laptop.

I'm fed up with a few days, close, inching closer, preparing, I'm nearly spent, a man can only edge for so long.........I need a release...

We've never been this close... ohh wait... we've been "this" close for the past 2 weeks :boring:

Some cracking sayings in this thread, so far we've had:

1. Red flags
2. Moons

Excellent :D

Varane won't end up joining Chelsea. They don't sign players like him, the numbers on Essien calculator doesn't add up. 50m for a world class CB? why would they want to do that? spend it all on players like Ben Chilwell instead.

Enough time? There's 7 weeks left.
Are you trying to suggest that's enough time?
Look how long it has taken us to negotiate Sancho and eventually Varane.
It takes around 2-3 weeks per player. And that's because we're negotiating and trying to not overpay. Which has worked well so far, even if we've only negotiated Sancho's fee.
And that's if we're sure in the player.
You could argue it's plenty of time, but that's if you skip the haggling part and jump straight to paying whatever the selling club is asking. Which sounds a lot like us from the past few years.
But it definitely feels that we've changed the approach. Negotiating deals from as early as possible and moving on quickly if we see the deal doesn't have the potential to materialise (citing Regullion approach from last summer).

After Sancho and Varane, going by most recent rumours, we're in for CM and RB and it doesn't look as if we're set on a certain player. Trippier's price tag set by Atleti raises a lot of questions with regards our RB pursuit.
I expect a flurry of tweets linking us to different CMs as soon as Varane's deal is done. Approach for Trippier or another RB might be left for the late stages of the window, giving us a chance to try and do a deal for Dalot.

Yes I'm suggesting that's enough time. I'm not convinced we're going to bring in both a CM and RB in any case.

I've told you before, It's not happening until you say it's happening. The CAFs very own Tier 1.
I’ll say it’s happening when Howard Nurse says it’s happening and not a moment before

Why are we edging towards putting a bid in!

I hate this whole drama, just make a bid and stop edging.

Well, I think we could do better with more time on our hands. I don't know why we don't negotiate deals before the window opens - definitely could've done that with Sancho and save ourselves some time for the rest of the deals.

With regards RB - I suspect we're prepared to pass on Trippier, if Atleti don't budge of the 40m price they set. We could keep Dalot and wait for January when we could sign Kieran for free.
And CM - we'll definitely go for Camavinga, but if that doesn't materialise, I'm very curious to see what's our back up plan. Or if there's any back up plan at all.
We might be going after Camavinga not so much because we want to bring a CM, but because he's a top talent and right now is the best opportunity to take advantage of the Spanish teams' financial difficulties and make a steal. We'll find out in the next 7 weeks.
