I think our long term interest is paying off here. We’ve been in his ear for over a decade now, players love to feel wanted.

£230k a week is nothing for a player of his quality

Edit: It's less, I was doing pounds and they're saying Euros. So more like £200k a week
Yeah I just done the math, £200k a week is more than reasonable for a player of his calibre.

I was expecting a higher salary.

Yeah I’ve been thinking similar since this cropped up, definitely sounds like we’ve stayed in his ear and that he was perhaps as close as the reports stated he was to joining us back then. Hopefully it pays off.

Very very close to signing.

Unless he renews.

Surely the Ramos sting isn't out of people's minds already?

I'm pretty sure that it has been mentioned by RMC or L'Equipe that it is one of the reason that we were favorites for his signing around 2018-2019, the club allegedly always made it clear that he was a target if he wanted to leave.

Yeah it makes sense, I don’t think it’s uncommon either, especially when you have a long-standing scout network like we do.

It's Gazzetta, guys. Don't put much weight on their article. They have some of the most speculative stories around.

I mean, Romano did say that no bid had been put in but I choose to believe it

Would love for it to be true (obviously) but can’t see us paying that figure when he’s only got twelve months left on his current deal.
If report is accurate, I'm sure that is the most we'd pay with add-ons etc... Probably 45m + 10m add-ons. If we wait until next year, we may not get him on a free.

I can. If Pogba were to leave I'd expect about 60 million euros too. Maybe since he's defender I would value him more at 45-50 million euros but 55 isn't too bad.

Saw someone on twitter saying Gazetta said it was done... suppose he fell for something fake just as this tweet that now can't be seen. What did it say and from who was it?
Pretty much the bolded statement

My math says differently.

Someone said here the highest income tax rate in UK is 45 %

According to reports it's €12m annually, I've seen no source say it's net or gross but imo it's net since Madrid offered him €7m net and he refused. €12m gross with a 45 % tax is €6.6m net.

£1 = €1.17

So his weekly salary is:

12000000/0.55/52/1.17 = £358615

That usually doesn't include match bonuses.

Edit: changed the 48 weeks to 52.

I can't imagine we'd have offered him nearly 400k a week net. Not even Pogba gets that.

Spanish media is reporting nett. This will be close to £350k/week if that is accurate.

Use 52 weeks, not 48.

Also, we will likely end up paying him closer to €10m nett imo (Marca would like to say more) which would be £300k/week
