After few years of people claiming Maguire is actually a good defender, I hope people know understand what a good defender actually is, looking at both Varane and Martinez.
God we wasted so much time with these crappy defenders..Smalling, Jones, Bailly, Lindelof, Rojo, Maguire..how many average or below average defenders cost us over the years ?
Sorry, but it's just wrong. He chose to go Madrid because Zidane personally persuaded him. Jones was a big talent too. Injuries ruined his career. He was not able to develop his game while his physical ability dismissed. It was never a bout choosing one of them. SAF wanted them both which is reasonable, with Rio-Vida was on the way down.
He's fecking immense, and himself and Martinez ooze class and leadership. The polar opposite of our previous CB iteration.

Yeah I know about that. What could've been with Kroos Varane and many more. We also needed a better succession of managers though. We got what our manager and player trajectory deserved.
His passion goes a bit under the radar having Martinez next to him, but while being a cool customer on the pitch, you can see that fire in him too. He loves it and we love him too!
