Apart from City, has been great this season. Proved me wrong.

I thought he was different class tonight and after Casemiro had the best performance today.

We didn't have much to deal with defensively today but there were a few moments where we could have been vulnerable but Varane cleaned up and prevented any danger from happening. Nothing could get past him tonight and he was surprisingly very good with his passing today, making passes between the lines.

Him and Martinez are immense. Our best pairing since Rio - Vidic.
Casemiro is the icing on the cake.

Laughably good. And for all the moans about him on the ball... he's miles better than fecking Maguire with it.
He’s plenty good with the ball, and with both feet might I add. He adds calmness to the defense.

In the first half, there was almost a foot race between Varane and Son, but Varane just breezed away from him. Had that been Lindelif or Maguire, it would be panick all over. Such a presence.

We should look to take more players off Madrid after Casemiro & Varane…

Valverde anyone?

Agreed. I'd also say you can see the coaching from ETH on all of our defenders in that we always look to progress the ball quickly forward after recovering it. Even if in our own box under pressure, our players get their heads up and look to play out instead of mindlessly hoofing it. Makes such a difference in controlling games.

He’s a bit of a Rolls Royce, bit of an unsung hero this season, I actually think he’s been our best player.

He's basically playing like Van Dijk did during their "golden period" but he's not getting half the credit for it.

He's the best centre-back in the league

Remember when people thought he was overrated... World class CB. Brilliant partnership we have there. Please stay fit.

He was off the field for the City goal … he then was still injured for the next goal 2 minutes later. He went off injured directly after that goal.

In a game where lots played well it’s easy to overlook that he was brilliant again. At times last season he looked nervous but he’s setting the standards at the back now.

Brick of wall. I think he's a lot more aggressive than when he's at Madrid. He's now way more proactive closing in his marking to not have time receiving a pass.

A stark contrast with those on the bench who love to back pedaling.

Another solid shift. Easily another 5-6yrs of top class performances left for us if he keeps fit.

To put things in perspective, Thiago Silva is 38 and still putting in solid performances for Chelsea.

As usual brilliant performance, he was aggressive and played some nice passes to build the move.

In the last few mins, when Spurs player won the ball in Spurs box and tried to dribble, Varane was so higher up the pitch, he won the ball in final third, it was so impressive to see ManUtd CB doing that.

Him and Martinez compliment each other very well, both are superb defenders.

Great performance even better on a rewatch. He anticipates the ball so well and defuses the danger usually with his head brilliantly.
