Ralf Rangnick's consultancy role has been scrapped

I love how the narrative has been completely re-written in the last month since this was announced.

"RR is exactly what we need as a consultant, he'll keep them all in line and help ETH against our Evil Overlords (The Glazers), the perfect dream team that are real "football men."

ETH is hired, RR fired.

"RR getting the bullet was expected, ETH was never going to gel with RR so it makes sense that RR gets fired and ETH has full control over transfers (like we haven't heard that before)."
So many gullible people are falling for the club's propaganda. At least the Glazers will get their dividends, even if we do an Arsenal next season.

United don't need 10 signings to win any of the cup competitions nex to season for example, and say finish 3rd. The team was mismanaged last season by 2 managers, but the seasons before that we had strong league finishes and good cup campaigns. It was simply ridiculous.

Led by one of those two managers ironically enough. The greater mismanagement in United is not by managers but by the hierarchy, and unless sustainable change takes place we will be stuck in a loop.

Nope. Don't think Nagelsmann would have taken a West Ham job, or any Ham job for that matter.

Yes. I don't know if he would have taken the job or not but managers other than Julian Nagelsmann are capable of getting a team to the semi-finals of the CL. So the point remains.

Nah it's still ridiculous. United don't need 10 signings to compete, which is what he suggested.

While last season may not represent the full talents of the squad, the levels to which those players sunk are telling. Right now, we don't have a full back we can trust, left or right. We don't have a centerhalf we can trust, or a midfield player. The wings are a question, though I hope Sancho will come good. And our only striker is 37.

So we have problems with both the quality of the first team and the depth in some of those positions. Add the fact that some of the players may not fit the sort of football an incoming coach would like, and you do end up with having to make wholesale changes in order to compete.

West Ham would never get to the semi finals of the CL. What's the point of that argument? Just to save a flawed Leipzig-West Ham comparison made in the spur of a moment?

In the scenario I described they'd have a decent chance of it just RB Leipzig did.

What point is it exactly you are trying to make mate?

That's the structures, dividends must be paid out.

Its a pittance they get anyway, 11m between what... 5 or 6 of them? Most of our squad earns the same or considerably more.

It's more so the narrative that supporters align themselves with.

The minute he was signed up everyone was waxing lyrical about him being a genius at building teams, they couldn't wait for him to get into the consultant role, for him to work alongside ETH and it'd be our dream team to bring us back to glory.

ETH was in the door a wet minute and then he's gone and folks have decided to do a complete 180 on their sentiments about RR and the dream team and act like they never said it and it was never going to work out anyway.

I'm disappointed with that if true. Grand if Erik didn't want to work with him but I don't see how an in depth debrief from an intelligent, independent football man like Rangnick on the current set up and squad wouldn't have been of value to him.

Well, ten Hag might already be having second thoughts about any role he played in getting rid of Rangnick and this affects our season, it's also on him.

How would we quantify the affects of getting rid of RR on season performance?

Rangnick is a nobody who hasn't really done anything that we would miss. Dude was at Moscow. Why would we value his input? Not as if he builts Barcelona or something

Exactly. He's not held in high regard in some circles.

Well grand, you're entitled to your opinion. There are plenty of figures in the world of football that you DO probably hold in high regard that would hold his opinion in some esteem. Regardless, he's been a relatively independent observer of our squad for most of this last season. What has Erik got to lose, having a sit down with him?

You could tell in the press conference that ten Hag wasn't keen on having Rangnick around.

They shouldn't overstate ETH's role in it. RR wasnt here to act as consultant to the manager. RR might not be very good but the frame of comparison at the club isn't exactly tough competition. Another experienced head might not have been bad to help out with our current transfer difficulties. At least I know no one is about to tell me Fletcher is superior help in negotiations.

Honestly, and this isn't aimed at you but at the story itself, why the f**k am I still reading about Ralf Rangnick and Man Utd?

He's gone. He's as relevant to Man Utd as David Moyes.

I want to be reading about Man Utd making improvements to the team for Ten Hag. Not some he said, she said bullocks about whether Rangnick made people at Man Utd cry in the corner.

The fact we're getting these stories on the Glazers' dividend day feels like the most obvious, and ridiculous, diversion tactic from sources.

If the ownership and senior management showed some serious commitment towards Man Utd, their mismanagement of the club wouldn't be the talk of the town.

The media can f-k off talking about Rangnick. Just tell me if/when we're going to get the midfield signings (plural not singular) that we need to start looking like a f-n team again.

Once again, not blaming the poster. Seeing this has just tipped me over the edge though.

Yeah that's true but was Rangnick the answer? I think it was Carragher who said it wouldn't be a good look for one of the biggest clubs in the world to have the Austria manager as a consultant and I wonder if some at the club felt the same way.

Don't worry you're not wrong.

Apart from having contacts at places where one of our top targets plays and having huge experience at building up a club from nothing (which we basically need).

And if you don't believe me, listen to what our DoF who apparently has known him for time and respects him says on the subject.

But please keep spouting the dumb British press narrative at me.

Depends what the question is. I'm sure we'd all have our own preference for even more qualified directors and CEOs if that was asked of us but said Austria manager would still be the most qualified at the club in decades. I'm not actually losing sleep over the departure but saying we're better off without another experienced hand is a tough sell.

Luckily for Arsenal, they did not think like that a way back when they brought in a manager who was working in Japan.

I mean at least we backed the manager on that decision rather than shoe horning in a set up that he didn’t want

This story is a deflection tactic from the club to get people talking about something else on the day they take out £11 million

That’s strange because his lawyers on RedCafe told us the reason Ralf was binned was because the board couldn’t handle being told “the truth.”

Oh I have seen his lawyers on twitter still thinking it had nothing to do with ETH.

This is Mark Goldbridge's take on it
"Ten Hag shouldn't get the blame for Rangnick going. Rangnick was on thin ice in early March. United got rid of him because he publicly spoke about the issues and needing 10 signings. So they got rid of him"

There are fans that cannot accept anything other than what narrative they have in their own mind.

I was of the opinion that Ralf was going to be consultant however; from Ralf's and ETH presser you could tell they dont see eye to eye.

Well apart from building up Leipzig from a lower league team to the consistent Bundesliga top 4 team it is today. Oh and getting Schalke to the Champions League semi final. But sure...

Amazing isn't it? Klopp said he was the best German coach and was a huge influence on Tuchel. He's credited with inventing Gegenpressing and literally restructured football clubs from the ground up making them a force yet some Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime on redcafe who probably doesn't even know how to use google spouts "he's done nothing in football" to make themselves feel better at the failings of the club. He might have been a disaster as a manager for us. However, everything he said was spot on in regards to how the club needed to operate and from reports on his transfer suggestions they seemed to be impeccable. I don't see how anyone can think getting rid of him as an advisor was anything but a terrible footballing decision.

So the biggest prize he’s won as either a manager or director is a solitary German cup, then the Bundesliga 2.

A real might of knowledge.

Building Leipzig to what it is today proves he is excellent at that aspect. Says nothing about his managing abilities of course and he clearly wasnt good enough to manage us.
But calling him a football nobody is extremely ignorant.

I don’t think he’s a nobody, but Leipzig kicked on when he went because Nagelsmann wanted nothing to do with him. Leipzig also have third most funding in Germany, getting them to being in the top 4 isn’t that impressive given the actual context behind it.

I’m sensing something of a pattern here…

He built up Hoffenheim as well and they didnt have anything close to that funding.
I am not lifting up to be something special, but posts calling him a nobody reeks of ignorance and do nothing for the discourse on this forum.

That having been said, we have been run woefully during the Glazer regime and input from someone with experience, could have been useful.

thats not what we need. We were in the CL, competing for cups etc the other day. This is extreme. We are in a better position than Liverpool were when Klopp came. How are we anything like 4th division Leibzig?

thats not impressive in my book I'm sorry. Its small time. I barely even remember CL semi finalists and the Bundesliga is as open as anything outside of Bayern. His portfolio resembles Roy Hodgson. I also recall RB cheated their way to the top with their own version of financial doping and everyone hated them for it. They used their sponsorhip of Redball to get a finanical advantage over everyone else or something.

He is the Roy Hodgson of Germany and he was tasked to BUILD a club like Man Utd.

Yeah. It does not scream anything to me. Just a load of hype. RB whole thing was they circumvented the rules to outspend everyone which catapulted progression through the leagues

I mean, Hoffenheim were the moneybag team before Leipzig were, so again, context changes that too.

When did Roy Hodgson do anything like that?
He built up Hoffenheim as well who didnt have that kind of funding.

You might not think his records impressive, but calling him a football nobody is very weird. Especially when the people currently running our club have done nothing at all in the football world.
Would he be a good manager for us? No absolutely not. Would he be an upgrade on our current backroom staff? Absolutely.
