Ralf Rangnick's consultancy role has been scrapped

You also don't have to think too much when appointing a interim, if the overall plan is to play a proactive attacking brand of football. So names like Rangnick, Favre, Fonseca etc, become the obvious short term options due to their coaching credentials in major European leagues.

The planning for the mid to long-term revolves around the permanent head coach. And Murtough wasn't exactly going to make it known about going behind Ole's back in putting feelers out for the next appointment.

my posts are rubbish) I have insufficient permission to post there.

However, I feel it’s really important to say:

1. I’m glad Johnny won, I believe he was the victim of domestic abuse,
2. The verdict was hotly anticipated and I’ve revelled in it as much as the next guy,
3. Even though I have a very low opinion of Amber Heard I wouldn’t want her to be the next Caroline Flack so would encourage everyone to keep that in mind going forward.

I think in the modern game it's important to have a director of football to avoid such issues from arising.

Many fans of the forum want to sign a destructor/destroyer type of midfielder. I think you are a great candidate with world class potential.

in the past I’d have said I’m overqualified based on the quality of our hires, but I actually think we are doing things right now.

I use RR as an example of a culture shift towards success believe it or not.

We brought him in which was a good appointment without the benefit of hindsight, but we retained the ability to get rid quickly if it didn’t work.

It didn’t work and we did get rid comparatively quickly to previous failures.

FDJ, McT, Bruno in midfield with competent coaching would hit different

I think he realized that nobody had listened to him and wasn't going to listen to him, so what was the point. People leave their bosses not their jobs.

They know they've just seen a guy manage to achieve the seemingly impossible by matching Ole stride for stride.

All I'm trying to say is if I've got the big cheque book I wouldn't be looking upon Ralf too fondly after that. Why am I trusting his judgement with hundreds of millions? It's a case of what have you done for me lately and in Ralfs case it was not a lot and not much in general in football in recent years.

Far better to cut your losses.

He did nothing for us. Zero. What he did for a midtable team in Germany is more irrelevant for us than what Moyes did with WH.

Apart from Season 17/18 Leipzig have been top 4 every season after joining the Bundesliga. Hardly a midtable team.

If West Ham received the level of financial doping that RB has over the last decade and played in a one team league then they might have made it to a semi-final of the CL as well.

His strength isn't as a manager, what he does have a proven track record of is, building clubs up from the ground up. Which is what this mess of a club needs. Besides his job was made much harder by having the most toxic bunch of players we've ever had. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he did a good job at all as a manager but again his track record is very much in being a director of football type and identifying the right types of players, not necessarily being able to coach said players.

Not a single person at this club has the track record that he does, not even John Murtough.
 
I love how the narrative has been completely re-written in the last month since this was announced.

"RR is exactly what we need as a consultant, he'll keep them all in line and help ETH against our Evil Overlords (The Glazers), the perfect dream team that are real "football men."

ETH is hired, RR fired.

"RR getting the bullet was expected, ETH was never going to gel with RR so it makes sense that RR gets fired and ETH has full control over transfers (like we haven't heard that before)."
 
I see a lot of comments ridiculing Ralf's "ten signings" remark.

It's important to note he said these signings should be made over several transfer windows, not all at once. So his appraisal of the situation really wasn't some unrealistic, "pie in the sky" bullshit that others are making it out to be.

He also clarified that 3 good signing would be good enough this window.

Nah it's still ridiculous. United don't need 10 signings to compete, which is what he suggested.

He has a record of overseeing 2 clubs who had significant investments which resulted in them moving through the German divisions and into the Bundesliga.

While I think his experience could have certainly been useful to United as a consultant, we have to remember he was never brought into ''rebuild United from the ground up'' or anything of the sort he was simply the first team manager. Nor do United really need re-built from the ground up, we're one of the richest clubs in world football and despite a horrible sason still one of the top teams in the most competitive league on the planet. What we actually needed is the football side of the club restructured and some competent people with footballing experience in key positions and allowed to do their jobs without interference. The club and perhaps ETH felt Rangnick didn't fit into that.

Nope. Don't think Nagelsmann would have taken a West Ham job, or any Ham job for that matter.

Yes we do. It's extremely naive to think we can compete with City without. We have 5 - 6 spots where we lack the quality needed. And we need quality back up as well.

United don't need 10 signings to win any of the cup competitions nex to season for example, and say finish 3rd. The team was mismanaged last season by 2 managers, but the seasons before that we had strong league finishes and good cup campaigns. It was simply ridiculous.
