The only constant between managers Is Ed and the players. But sure it’s all on the head coach
Are we really going to act like it's the same players.
Mourinho had:
DDG, Valencia, Smalling, Lindelof/Bailly/Jones, Young, Pogba, Matic, Lingard, Mhiki, Rashford and Lukaku as his main starters, with Shaw, Mata and Martial coming in and out.
Matic is generally viewed as a decent professional.
Bailly and Jones have barely featured over the last 3 years.
DDG has been great for us and has been a good pro over the years as well.
Valencia, Smalling, Young, Mhiki and Lukaku have left the club.
That leaves Lindelof ( who has barely shown any signs of malice since his arrival), Pogba, Lingard, Shaw and Martial.
5 players in a 20+ man squad.
Martial has gone out on loan and will leave.
Pogba and Lingard will also leave this summer.
There is barely any constant of players between Ole and Mourinho; and almost nothing with LVG. The concept that our players have been getting managers sacked is completely false. You can blame Woodward and the recruitment team partially, but most of the managers had a lot more control at United than they would have had at other teams and consistently failed.
Is Pogba an issue? Yes. He should have been sent on his way in 2018. A mixture of his poor injury record, us not trying to lose this type of talent and difficulty finding sellers that would want to buy him for the value we placed on him kept him here for almost 4 extra seasons. He should definately have been gone at the end of 18/19. Since then he hasn't figured too much on the pitch, but his influence off it has been a problem.
Lingard was given far too much entitlement at the club. Once it was figured he was not going to be suitable as a starter at this level and he could not hold down a specific role, we should have shipped him off instead of using him as depth. He stayed far too long, he should have been sold last summer. That was a mistake from Ole.
Shaw. Shaw was fantastic last season and I still believe he has that in his game. Mourinho bullied him and we all accepted that notion at the time. LVG didn't have a problem with, Ole didn't have a problem with him. Rangnick had already made previous negative statements about him, then dropped him immediately when he came into the team. Telles has been poor, so that drop was really inexcusable.
In essence, too much is made about the players downing tools for different managers. It's a completely different group. Yes, there are negative influences within this current dressing room, but that is exclusive to this dressing room. I don't think outside of Pogba, Ole was dealing with the type of issues that are occuring now, despite the leaks. I think the addition of stronger personalities like Ronaldo, mixed in with the heavy handedness of Rangnick, led to the current dressing room being the way it is.
