Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Struggling to beat shite like Watford and Burnley and yet some people think rival clubs would poach him. There must be something in the water at United. Called it early on, he's Van Gaal reincarnate.

We never created anything most of the time under LVG, its nothing like under him. We had so so so many chances today, our finishing is criminally bad.

Rangnick basically set us up perfectly considering we were barely threatened and created chances after chances only for our forwards to outcompete each other for being the worst finisher in the squad.

Anyone who blames him for us dropping points today is fecking blind.

It absolutely makes a lot of sense. The top three in regards to similarity (Hasenhüttl, Klopp, Tuchel) were all more or less influenced by Rangnick and Hasenhüttl even managed Leipzig the season before Rangnick did. Seeing those three at the top actually proves how much his philosophy is still followed by them.
Yes but it doesn't make having Southampton and Leeds two of the four teams you have most in common with a good thing.

Despite the results he’s improved us a great deal I think. We play good football but we don’t have as much quality in the squad as we think we do.

True, he did well to contain them after they shipped four goals to Palace a few days ago.

You surely can't have a go at him for that today after we created 4-5 absolute sitters. Or is that somehow not good enough?

I'm not. I'm more interested in why we are struggling to gain more traction given the players we have, and during a stretch of 11 "easy" games against lower quality opposition. He talks a good sexy football game, but delivers feck all on the field of play.

Do people want him to put the ball in the net himself? What magical striker can he pull out of thin air to play instead of Ronaldo?

Think he's been doing good lately and I understand that he needs to rest players, but he is making a lot of bad decisions when it comes to Ronaldo. We also can't afford Sancho not starting. Otherwise the poor finishing is on the players.

No. He loaned out players we could use now. He has no alternative to Ronaldo which costs us. So there is blame

Martial was loaned out before the Greenwood situation. Greenwood would obviously have been the other option up front apart from Ronaldo or Cavani otherwise.

Regardless of the scoreline this was the most control we've had this season. We were really confident on the ball, moving with intent and direction and the defense was solid and calm

Hard to argue against him when we control create chances, concede nothing and put nothing away. Hes a good manager not a magician.

He delivered football that made more and better chances than a team that won a game 4-0 earlier today. Don't know what more he's supposed to do beyond sticking the ball in the net himself.

The problem is, if he cannot attract the board to buy players, will he agree to loan out the players?
Or he had no say to high board decision to trim up the salary..

Comical to blame Ralf.
Numerous misses By Ronaldo and Bruno.
Elanga missed a sitter too.

Agreed he's getting the best out of what he has at his disposal. We need someone to perform a miracle with Marcus and get him back on the goal trail and Cavani off the physio's bench.

He's turned us into a much more proactive team, and it shows in our performances, but we'll never translate it into results with a statuesque Ronaldo leading the line for us

Struggle to understand how you could watch today's game and then describe it as 'feck all'. Baffling.

Like I said before, he is still responsible for creating a level of play and squad confidence that can capitalize on chances in games. I don't even care so much about the result today. I'm more interested in why our football is so underwhelming given the players we have and the alleged pedigree of our manager. I see nothing in his approach to managing us that gives me the slightest glimmer of confidence that this season will end well for us.

The fault is with the players today. The ones who were on the pitch and then the ones who came on afterwards. This really should have been a comfortable victory, maybe even one of our biggest of the season, if it were not for truly terrible finishing. The players are responsible for not winning this game.

He picks Ronaldo every minute of every game despite being horribly off form, so he has to take some responsibility for that.
If he takes of ronaldo the fans will burn him at the stake. You sir are in the minority here, tread carefully before the ronaldo horde notices your blasphemy!

Our best performance under him, that first half? Created a bunch of chances and really should have scored which isn't on him. But his subs were terrible, basically took off our midfield for forwards, a very Ole move, and we stop creating those chances. Trying to go gung ho and use chaos against a team that likes to sit and stay compact wasn't really going to work. Do think this set up benefitted Fernandes a lot more, he was able to get into the box more and despite his atrocious finishing at the moment he's still by far our best player. Steps I guess. Just wish he'd stop using Rashford, hard enough accommadating one forward who doesn't run much.

What does this even mean?
He set us up in a way to easily score 4+ goals? We completely controlled the game. Limited them to little to nothing. Created multiple clear cut chances and didn't score. What more can you possibly ask from the manager?

Ronaldo should retire.
Cavani. This is the problem with older players. They take longer to get fit.

We started the season with no midfield strenthening.
Now we only have Elanga as a viable striker.

We have a joke board.

ETH may think many times before he comes here.

Should have started Sancho and “rested” or benched Ronaldo. Thats the only bit of criticism for him today. Finishing was abysmal. Our general play has improved but top 4 looks improbable now with the games coming up.

Ralf’s forward pool on paper is pretty decent, but in reality it’s really underwhelming

Ronaldo really looks his age now
Cavani just isn’t here
Rashford looks to have plateaued as a player and heading towards Walcott/Alli territory
Martial is sulky and been ass for the past 18 months or so and half way out the door
Greenwood is a huge cnut

The sad thing is one or two of these guys are probably going to be here next season even though all 5 of them will leave or deserve to leave based on performances or both (or more serious reasons in one of thems cases)

Greenwood being a huge cnut has been very damaging for us, as he was undoubtedly being groomed to be the future and we had already loaned Martial out by then, meaning we’re stuck with the two old boys and someone who looks like they don’t give a feck and has plateaued as a player.

No wonder Ralf singled out Elanga for praise in midweek.

We've had control like this at various points under Ole. I think us playing a fresh Matic was the reason for this, more so than simply training improvements. He's done ok, but its clear he isn't our future manager.

Struggle to understand how you could watch today's game and then describe it as 'feck all'. Baffling.

I'm not really focused on today as I am the general trajectory of our year, combined with our underwhelming style of play. We just finished a run of 10 winnable games during which we underperformed massively. Can't see us making 4th at this rate. But hey, let's not blame Ralf for that.

Who would you start in his position instead?

Any of Rashford, Bruno, Elanga and get Sancho on or Jesse Lingard, someone who's legs aren't gone. Ronaldo doesn't really hold the ball like a target man anyway, he plays lone striker like a winger, so might as well play another winger there.

Apart from that, he can't have known about Greenwood, but with Martial if he told him he was a part of his plans instead of leaving him out of squads when he arrived, then he might still be here.

And how many options does he have?
Rashford is woeful.
Cavani is injured
No Greenwood.
Elanga played.

Elanga, Rashford or Bruno could play up front and Sancho start. They're not great options but preferable to Ronaldo stinking it up without getting a rest at 37.

I can agree with that, but I can also say that Ralf should have sent a stronger message to everyone by taking Ronaldo off instead of one of our deeper midfielders. It's all nice and dandy that we look like we're playing better football with some structure, but it amounts to nothing if we don't score and unless you make sure that no one is untouchable on a bad day.

Imagine the insane combo of Rangnick's pragmatism and Ole's luck..

Despite the results he’s improved us a great deal I think. We play good football but we don’t have as much quality in the squad as we think we do.

Bingo.

You look at today and you can't really find fault with the manager. You just have to accept the players we have just can't do it. They're not as good as we have been told.

Blame the board for the 'money' decision first man.
