Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

If not you then there will be someone else. Either way he gets dogs abuse.

Instead why not let him implement a system that is followed by most successful modern teams and weed out players who cant do it ?
He’s a short term manager brought in to qualify for the Champions League. He’s failing. Miserably.

Ole is the one who left behind this woeful squad for Ralf to try and work miracles with. He also hasn't claimed to be anything. He talks a lot of sense, unlike the last guy who spoke in boring platitudes

This woeful squad who finished 2nd in the league last season and made multiple SF's

We're not getting top 4 under RR

No its coming from the players because THEY are not pressing.

Right, so they're doing what the coach tells them to and therefore they're all pricks who should know better. Gotcha.

The players are downing tools and throwing the manager under the bus like the previous one and the one before him.

What do you suggest? We’ve been changing players since Fergie left. We need a capable manager with a vision that the players buy into and follow. This is absolutely on the manager even though the players are gutless twats.

Allow him to work? This is as much a fact finding mission for the next manager as it is an exercise in getting top 4. What we are seeing is 9 years of poor investment with no clear vision coming home to roost, he can't be to blame for that, he has been given chicken shit and is doing his best to make chicken salad.

Oh yeah, and SIUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU !!!!

Ronaldo has previously shown a willingness to try and press, I don't buy that at all. And if Rashford is the only other option and he's not doing what you want stick Elanga up there or Lingard or anyone. He's just not asking them to press and they've been told to sit really deep which compounds it. Atrocious.
Not really. Ronaldo doesn't press well at all and hasn't got the energy levels to do it the entire game, that really can't be denied. Regardless, good result today!

Try pressing with Ronaldo up top and Maguire at the back - in a high line to compress the pitch. Sounds a lot like suicide to me. But yeah, considering their status within the club and their wage, he is probably having a difficult time not picking them. Also, the options are quite bare in fairness.

I almost lost any remaining belief on Ralf. Compared with Potter’s Seagull, we are like league one team. The players have no clue how to play as a unit. A ten-men seagull plays like a dream team.
we need to get Potter! His philosophy and capacity is awesome!

Couldn’t watch the game. Was it that bad tonight?
It’s beyond your imagination!
When the lens zooming in onto our players while they were defending 10-men seagulls’ attacking, you can see they were asking themselves how the team is playing so poorly as a unit like that. I now believe the players don’t rate Ralf.

Players don’t rate Ralf, players didn’t rate Ole, players didn’t rate Mourinho, Moyes was a joke etc etc.

Who gives a monkies feck who the players rate? RR is doing better with them than the previous incumbent, where we were getting embarrassed and played off the park.

I clearly overrated the squad, they were playing so poorly because so few have a Pogba ability (or the ability of many top players at top clubs) just to remain calm and wait for the right pass. I like Potter, but he’s not gonna make this lot suddenly calm and aware, with composure in bucketloads, it simply aint happening.

Ironically our worst performance since we’ve got back from Dubai, but also our only win and clean sheet.

feck it. I’ll take anything to build confidence at this point… even struggling to beat a 10 man Brighton at home for half an hour

Heres how I see it. The players that have been here for a while are so set in their ways they aren’t opening their minds to what someone like Ralf might teach them. Yes, he’s here only for 6 months and yes he’s mostly been a DoF in the last 10 years but many coaches owe their trade to him, even Klopp.
Aramas I agree with you, but considering it’s only 6 months, don’t know who else he could have brought in.
As for the players;
Ronaldo - doesn’t have the legs anymore for the PL.
Shaw - hasn’t turned up for work this season
Bruno - signing Ronaldo seems to have unsettled him. Not the same player since.
Rashford - welbeck would probably put more effort in
DeGea - based on the last 2 seasons I would have sold him. Let’s see if he can keep this new form up

the players need to stop bitching amongst themselves and to the press otherwise get rid. We need hungry players who want to learn and enjoy playing for Manchester United. Not a bunch of cry babies when things are going wrong. Roll up your sleeves and change it
Regarding your comment that Ronaldo doesn’t have the legs for the PL… I disagree. He looks fast enough to me. And he was clocked at 34+ kph earlier this season.

From the look and body language of our players on the pitch, I feel they have lost faith on Ralf over the last half hour. They completely didn’t know what to do. It’s such a disjointed unit.

Ralf was given a lot of rotten baggage (which got worse with the Greenwood situation). We haven't looked that great under his stewardship, but we're no longer getting slaughtered by clubs like Watford. Right now it's all about damage limitation and somehow snaking into the CL next season. Nothing else really matters.

Fans have lost faith in the players.

We were tactically naive today. Fred was playing way too far up the pitch at times, meaning Brighton had an easy time in transition. Scott is not a holding midfielder, yet Rangnick continues to play him as one, not that he has any other options. Bruno is an attacker at heart, he shouldn’t be played as an 8. He has the side so compact and narrow when defending that the Brighton wingers and fullbacks had acres of space to either drive to the touch line, cross or pick a pass.

Delighted we won, and I hope this helps our confidence in front of goal. Happy for the team and Ralf. I’m hope that when we hit this next patch of PL fixtures against Liverpool and City, we’ll have figured out some of the tactical issues.

It’s clear Ralf instructed the team to play conservative to limit the opponent and go full pressing in the second half. I guess many of our earlier games make him accept we can’t press the whole game.
The way the whole team played as a unit against 10 men from Seagulls, I think it really hard to see any positive. We got lucky this time actually.

If he scrapes us into 4th like this it'll do nicely, no matter how it looks. The football was appalling tonight. Seemed to have no ability to get near Brighton. These players are utterly inept. There is no way that is part of the plan but they just don't seem to respond to any situation. Whether we need the points or not, whether it's certain opposition or not, no matter what the period of the game is and seemingly no matter who the manager is.

The players looked completely unprepared tactically tonight.

It looked like we'd never seen Brighton play and had no clue what they were going to do.

There was passage of play in the first half where the keeper had the ball on the edge of their box and Fred went to press the him and they were on the edge of our penalty box in about 3 passes. Appalling.

We look slightly more organised than under Ole but that's the only positive I can find at the moment.

I really hope things improve but I just can't see it.

He may give us more control but we're too prone to counter attacks with him in a two man CM
Every attacking team is prone to counter attacks.

The sooner we get rid of the defensive mindset the better. Successful modern teams play a pressing possession based game, if we want to be successful we have to adapt or get pegged down the table.

Rangnick wants to play that way, he has tried to play that way but some of the players are not suitable for this type of game because they lack technical ability and they lack physical fitness. So in a way we are weeding out players that cannot play this way and hopefully they will be moved on in the next few transfer windows whilst signing those players that can play in this system.

No manager has a magic wand that he can waive to turn turd into gold.

Things take time. Why hasn't Conte turned Spurs into a proper team yet? He must be a rubbish manager too?

We're a humongous work in progress and that's perfectly normal.

Nice we won, but have little faith of us doing anything this season.

CL is our chance, but we are not going to beat the other top sides defending as badly as we are.

United have only lost twice thus far under Rangnick (Wolves and Boro?). It's been harder to score against United, but they also haven't been scoring much as of late. Think that's more down to not taking chances than change creation.

I'm starting to see similarities with Tuchel's initial time with Chelsea and Rangnick's time with United. Tuchel went straight to a back 3, something Chelsea were still very familiar with as it was only a couple of season since Conte. Rangnick eventually settled into a 433/4231, after 4222. So steeper learning curve and adjustment for United. Both teams gave themselves a chance to get results because they were hard to breakdown and score against, but they also had difficulties scoring two goals with consistency.

When we look up at the PL table at the moment, Chelsea has a game in hand and only 4 points ahead. So 7 points maximum after the shit United had served up in the beginning of the first 3 months of the season...that's well within distance to 3rd position.

Rangnick has steadied the ship once more and really should be in better position, but dropped too many cheap points (at least 4) in the league. The fact that players are still having ego trips and attitude problems is just more on the players and them not being self-aware, which has harmed the team. Each individual player has to pull in the same direction and if they sometimes aren't or just aren't, then problems will always arise. And arise they have this season.

Fred coming back into the team today and no Varane didn't help. However, DDG is in top form and he's been key in keeping teams out or limiting goals. That's part of the defense, but understand what you're saying.

Cutting down the stupid turnovers and loss of possession in the middle of the park will help defensively, especially in transition.

We are completely disjointed and disorganized in the second half after they had one sent off. Ole’s team in the last few months are dire but last season we were a lot better than this.
We need a real reset in the football aspect. I would take Potter.

Doubt. At no point under Ole were we as organised as what we see under Rangnick. There's a reason the talk of being clueless against deep teams has disspated. Ole also had in form players, Rangnick is getting results despite players like Bruno and Ronaldo being out of form, this is no fault of his own by the way because they were already out of form when he got here. Ole had a preseason to implement his ideas last season, Rangnick can't implement his because of the hectic schedule. He couldn't even bring in coaches without serious constraints to who was available midseason. They shouldn't be compared but if they are then Rangnick is overperforming relative to what he walked into. So many of these players aren't even ideal for his kind of football. You can't make Ronaldo press and you can't make Rashford smart. This is a heavily gimped version of a full strength Rangnick and yet we still look better.

Another thing is we don't even lose under Rangnick. It's been an easy schedule but these are the same matches all our previous managers had a habit of bottling. Pretty much any match they were expected to take initiative.

Lets face it, overall he hasn't yet quite took the team up to our min expectation on him with our disjointed teams. He still has time though.

2-0 Brigton (good)
1-1 Southampton (as expected)
1-1 Burnley (poor)
1-1 Middlesborough (poor)
1-0 West Ham (good)
3-1 Brentford (as expected)
1-0 Villa (as expected)
1-1 Newcastle (poor)
1-0 Norwich (as expected)
1-1 Young boy (poor)
1-0 Crystal Palace (as expected)

2 games considered good result, 4 games considered just meeting our min expectation, 4 games considered underperformed/poor result

I find these "as expected" ratings a fairly disingenuous way to assess the results given what this very team was serving up against those very teams before he arrived. Even the "poors" are not true, we weren't poor against Boro. Against Young Boys we literally played a junior team. Didn't we even sub out our keeper in that game? We weren't poor in that game, we were "as expected".
