Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Things take time. Why hasn't Conte turned Spurs into a proper team yet? He must be a rubbish manager too?

We're a humongous work in progress and that's perfectly normal.

That's typically the issue with people expecting Rangnick to be the second coming of Jesus Christ. It takes 2-3 years to build a team. It involves defining a system of play, training the players mentally & physically towards it, bringing in players who can contribute well & removing players unfit for the system. Rangnick has come in the midst of a pandemic, having little control over staff recruitment, with a squad full of over priced, over rated players with inflated egos. The process will be much worse in the initial stages because players will simply not unlearn & relearn new ideas. Add to this the social media culture, the leaks, intelligent interviews & the unnecessary incident with Mason Greenwood. Klopp finished 8th in his first season. Guardiola finished 4th with all the resources already available to him. Any manager who takes a team getting trashed 4-1 on a regular basis to winning the champions league that season is almost entirely lucky & is not going to sustain such success.

I find these "as expected" ratings a fairly disingenuous way to assess the results given what this very team was serving up against those very teams before he arrived. Even the "poors" are not true, we weren't poor against Boro. Against Young Boys we literally played a junior team. Didn't we even sub out our keeper in that game? We weren't poor in that game, we were "as expected".
We are not expected to draw at home against Championship team or Young Boys, even with our disjointed team.

In a dead rubber tie where 15 of the 18 players that took the field+bench weren't even starting XI first teamers we got a point. The entire bench was the u23, quite literally i think. We subbed out Henderson for Heaton in the 2nd half. The best senior players were the likes of Lingard, Mata and Matic. That game was to blood youngsters, a win was a secondary objective. We knew what the deal was once the teamsheet was announced.

Doubt. At no point under Ole were we as organised as what we see under Rangnick. There's a reason the talk of being clueless against deep teams has disspated. Ole also had in form players, Rangnick is getting results despite players like Bruno and Ronaldo being out of form, this is no fault of his own by the way because they were already out of form when he got here. Ole had a preseason to implement his ideas last season, Rangnick can't implement his because of the hectic schedule. He couldn't even bring in coaches without serious constraints to who was available midseason. They shouldn't be compared but if they are then Rangnick is overperforming relative to what he walked into. So many of these players aren't even ideal for his kind of football. You can't make Ronaldo press and you can't make Rashford smart. This is a heavily gimped version of a full strength Rangnick and yet we still look better.

Another thing is we don't even lose under Rangnick. It's been an easy schedule but these are the same matches all our previous managers had a habit of bottling. Pretty much any match they were expected to take initiative.
Well, one of the main factors contributing to Ole team’s downfall is the bad preseason. Due to international games, our core players had played extensively during the summer. They weee out of form or got injury issues in the first half of the season. I think we should be objective to evaluate the circumstances. But I understand people have different opinions. Ole has gone, and we should look forward.

He's only as good as the shite he can work with really.

It seems half of them either aren't good enough or just not up to the challenge. You only have to look at the energy and will the team put in last night. First 45 minutes was like they were running through sand.

They obviously had a shake up at half time, and would you believe it - a tiny bit of effort won us the game.

I don't think he can do much with a side that know he will be gone in 3 months.

I know but everyone had the same amount of preseason, top teams didn't fall to midtable. We had a bigger squad to cushion the blow but mismanaged even that and they all got impatient and went on loan and left even less for Rangnick. Rangnick is basically achieving top 4 with one hand tied behind his back.

Every attacking team is prone to counter attacks.

The sooner we get rid of the defensive mindset the better. Successful modern teams play a pressing possession based game, if we want to be successful we have to adapt or get pegged down the table.

Rangnick wants to play that way, he has tried to play that way but some of the players are not suitable for this type of game because they lack technical ability and they lack physical fitness. So in a way we are weeding out players that cannot play this way and hopefully they will be moved on in the next few transfer windows whilst signing those players that can play in this system.

No manager has a magic wand that he can waive to turn turd into gold.
No, when Pogba plays in CM he's an open door for teams to run onto our defence because he's poor defensively and has a poor work rate, see the Southampton game, they ran through the middle time and time again.

It would be suicidal of us to go gung-ho, our defence would be even more overrun, leading to the opposition creating more chances and that we can't afford to do.

A professional bullshitter, always a readymade excuse that never questioned.
He's an interim manager ffs. Did you expect him to go on and win the league with the shit show he inherited? I think it was a very astute signing from the club. His strength is building teams not managing them but if he has first hand experience of the players he has to work with then it makes his job and the next managers job much easier to weed out the players that shouldn't feature in future plans.

He's got no affinity with this group of players which makes his job easier to get rid of any players he sees fit unlike Ole who was only interested in not upsetting the players or the club which is why we're in the position were currently in.

Look at the bigger picture instead of focusing on slamming a manager who was always going to be more effective moving upstairs than in his current position.

So many drama queens in here. I've seen talk of Ralf being a fraud. Why? He clearly wants us to play a pressing game, but due to the same pattern occurring recently (Boro, Burnley, Southampton) he has learnt that the team cannot sustain the level of physicality he demands for 90 minutes. Last night, there was a more concerted effort in the second half and that brought about our two goals and a red card. If our finishing had been on point in the previous 1-1 draws, then our declining second half energy levels wouldn't have been so detrimental to our progress.

Agree. What people dont realise is that no team can press for 90 mins on a regular basis. Even City and Liverpool can't press for 90 mins when they have games every 3/4 days.

What Liverpool and City do is, when they do press, they make sure it counts, go 1-0 up then drop off for a bit control the ball, take the edge out, Or when they do score, they use that adrenaline to go for the kill.

When its 2-0 then the game is under control and can pick teams off. We need to finish our chances, some of the chances we have missed in the last 3/4 games have been guilt edge chances.

We look much better defensively, although thats a pretty low bar to clear

We dont create neraly enough chances though and our we have to be getting close to some world record on corners now. 138 corners and 0 goals. Thats mental

Set pieces aside, which were horrible already, we have been creating more than enough opportunities to score, it’s our finishing that has been piss poor.

I don’t think anyone can truly make a good judgment on Ralf unless he takes charge next season for whatever reason. He is an interim manager tasked with trying to get the Titanic to shore after Solskjaer hit a series of icebergs. Getting it to shore without sinking is like CL qualification but we may well sink before we hit shore.

And on this metaphorical Titanic, we’ve got crewmen who’ve worked on submarines, catamarans, oil tankers and barely ever been on an ocean liner.

Yeah, we should have won a few games recently at a bit of a canter.

This is the problem with our fans though. 1-0 win and DDG makes a dozen world class saves and people are happier than if we draw 1-1 and should have won 5-1 with the chance we made.

I didn't watch the game yesterday but from the highlights and what I have heard it was awful stuff. Conversely we should have easily won a few more games that we have drawn lately if any of our players were even remotely on form in front of goal.

Still impossible to judge RR at this stage with any actual certainty.

1st half was the worst I’ve seen and that really says something considering how the season has gone! Second half we dominated for about 15 to 20 minutes but really struggled to break Brighton down when they went down to 10 men. I think fatigue set in having played on Saturday. The result was more important than anything yesterday and hopefully Ronaldo and Bruno will go on a run.

I think Ralf has done precisely what an interim manager should do, stop the bleeding. We’ve only conceded more than 1 goal once, and that in itself is an accomplishment based on how we were leaking goals. He should not be named permanent manager but he’s setting up the squad nicely for the next manager.

He's far better than our last manager. Don't think he's 'the one' long term, but you can see the beginnings of an actual team that know how to play football together.

We did got kick out on the first round of FA cup losing to championship side at home on penalties though. It should be expected result, no matter how you want to believe so.

When will people stop clicking these things? It’s obviously just controversy for the sake of views.
Well the poster has form for this kind of thing it seems he or she scours Twitter and other obscure sources with hardly any traction for such negative and stupid things about United , atleast this is one of the posters better effort.

I dont understand why we are not pressing. Isn't that what hes all about? Even Pochettino has the Psg team bar Messi and Mbappe pressing

I‘d like to suggest an exclusive thread or two in which only invited posters can post. I think we‘re all a bit annoyed and stressed about the amount of crap that is floating around in most threads at the moment.

I only have a handful of minutes to scroll through things that interest me, but half of that time is wasted reading petty arguments about whose player‘s dick is larger or what definitely would have happened if manager x had listened to [insert your name here]‘s advice.

I‘d be happy to not be allowed to post in a thread, if it meant I‘d be able to find discussions between people who have different views, but are open enough to discuss them instead of throwing your-mum-jokes at each other.

Sorry, for putting the suggestion here, but I have no thread creation rights.

He has landed one of the most difficult jobs with big things to deliver in short time. The dressing room is split, player power, cant sign anyone and top of it, he a proactive coach trying to get these out of shape players to play in some sort of consistency. Also, issues like MG where we lost a forward on areas we lack personnel. Considering all things he has done well and if he lands top 4, it would be fantastic.

Rewatched the game against Brighton. Think we didn't had the control in the first half because of the midfield that started. Don't know what has happened to Matic but if Pogba isn't starting, Matic has to come in. McFred combo is just too awful for us to take control .

According to these knobs at sky, rangnick is the worst manager in the league! ()

Out of Moyes, LVG, Mourinho, Ole and Ralf.....I easily like LVG most. My cup of tea.

LVG at least. Go out on the pitch to boss opponents teams. The problem with LVG is. LVG didnt had Bruno. With Bruno in LVG team and squad. LVG would be closer to premier league title.

Rest are too safe for my taste. Go out there express yourself, show how good you really and dominate and boss the ball and pitch. Of the five. Only LVG had it. Rest are counterattack managers. Set up to break and counterattack.

Give me some Pep or Klopp. Boss others mentality.

Bruno fernandes would not be able to make any of the passes he makes now if he were to be managed by LVG.

LVG didn't boss shit really.

And LVG would have hated Bruno due to his wastefulness in passing.

I honestly don't think you watched us under LVG at all if that's the opinions you came up with as a conclusion to his tenure here.

For me the worst thing that could happen is RR becoming permanent manager in the summer.

I cannot for the life of me understand why so many fans think he’s doing a great job.

I think around the 22nd game of the season, this was our worst ever start to a PL season yet Rangnick has lost only one game during his time here. Tells you the job he had and the challenges he has had to face.

Bielsa is b grade despite having a bad season?

Frank is an E despite doing relatively ok with a modest Brentford side?

Conte has barely done any better than Rangnick

Pure Banter

Seriously. It was comfortably the worst football I’ve ever seen us play consistently. What’s worse is you felt it was all going to plan. We had an XG in his final season similar to Stoke.

He was trash and the fact that any of our fans remember him fondly is bizarre.
