Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Cold personalities on the touch line lead for cold personalities on the field. We need a lively motivator.

Absolutely horrible football since he took over. Horrible.
Yeah, Solskjaer's warm and friendly personality helped us massively. The football was brilliant before Ralf was hired. Losing 4-1 to Watford is so much better than losing 1-0 to Wolves.

4-3-3 or 4-1-2-3 however you want to define it.

With the current players we have fit it should be:

De Gea
Wan-Bissaka Jones Varane Shaw
McTominay
Bruno Fred
Sancho Ronaldo Rashford

Write a letter to Rangnick to suggest it. Ill sign it.
Also suggest please that Rashford learns how to play a simple through pass and how to pass to an open player when surrounded by 4 players.

Where’s the pressing?

Where’s the ‘balance’ to the team he was referring to? He hasn’t changed the shape to add another player into midfield. That’s where the balance comes from. His 4-2-2-2 has turned into 4-2-4 like under Ole because all 4 front players want to be high up the pitch.

I wasn’t expecting miracles but I don’t see anything new other than a bit of pressing against Palace.

I don’t rate anything I’ve seen from him in charge of this team. We had about half an hour of pressing against Palace and it’s been a whole lot of Ole Ball ever since.

I'm not surprised people are.tueni g on him already. Our online fanbase is one of the worst around.

Personally, I think the squad needs at least half a dozen new players and the rot that set in under Mourinho and then Solksjaer was never cured.

One issue I have with Rangnick is that he has seemingly compromised his own tactics by trying to rotate Ronaldo, Cavani and Matic into the side. They can't press.

Not subbing anyone from the forward line and the midfield at all was a bit of criminal there tbh with the players we were putting there.

Fred and Bruno coming in early would have made a bit more difference considering Sancho was useless and both CMs were pretty bad.

Hard to press when you're strike force us 70 years old. I know his intention is to press, and that takes time so I won't go too much on that. On the ball though? There's not much plan there other than just hit it forward as direct and as early as possible. 0 control, 0 midfield play, 0 cohesive play. It's more reliant on counter attacking than we were under Ole last season. And I'm not sure that that's not his vision either.

He took over from Carrick and Mckenna, not Ole.

Yeah but we had barely any games under them to make proper judgments. The few games for them were similiar to our start under Ralf. Bad performances, but better results than under Ole. Every further comparison is pointless because we haven't seen more of Carrick and have barely seen much more from our team under Rangnick either.

Fecking rubbish

Every game so far has been dreadful. Plays 2 strikers when we’re creating nothing which makes zero sense. Midfield yet again none existent, it’s been said a million times but why is Donny not getting games when McFred or McMatic are losing the midfield battle week after week, how can he possibly be worse?

We’ll finish 10th this season. We couldn’t have hand picked a better set of fixtures for a new manager and we’ve been completely outplayed in almost every game we’d lose 4/5-0 against any decent side.

Get one of the most solid Premier league managers and he's shite

Get a manager who has won several trophies around the continent and built great teams, shite.

Get a serial winner who was the best manager of the decade shite

Get a club legend who seems to get on well with the players, shite.

Nobody rates Ole, Molde manager, no tactics. Get an expert in, shite.

Here's an idea.

Why don't we bring Ole back as a 'Caretaker', we'll go on that incredible run again and then we'll just not give the job full time.

I’m starting to think Rangnick was sent in by Klopp and Tuchel to finish us off, surely no coach in the world would think a 4-2-2-2 formation with defensive full backs and two 6’s in front even though only one is actually 6 followed by two wide players playing as dual 10’s whilst our actual 10 is on the bench is a good idea ?
Yes. Even when you look at cold hard stats, this formation makes no sense with our players. He just want to play 4222 becouse he wants to play 4222. He is an stubborn man, who in theory talks a good theroy, but in reality there is reality.

If we see the same forward like and formation next match, I'm gonna go freak out. Clearly Ronaldo upfront is not working, nor is the midfield. I thought he was a bullish coach? He's done a poor job up until now.

But he uses the words "control" and "pressing"....

Hopefully, Ten Hag will come in summer. Otherwise, we are fecked. The decision to not take Conte then would be ridiculous.

Shown absolutely nothing so far.

w think Ole was a good motivator? How can you be so clueless? feck the friendliness. Man management is not about being nice. Klopp is a motivator. Conte is one too. Rangnick is evidently not. I’m not sure he’s much of a tactician either.

3 bad wins against the worse teams in the league, a loss and a draw. There’s every right to be questions marks over him already. Has nothing to do with the fan base.

When you spend 95% of your time on a forum wumming, you should hardly be surprised when no one takes your serious opinions seriously, there's no way to differentiate.
I only ever called out and ridiculed the hype and the ensuing fan fiction surrounding the appointment, and with good reason. And before the appointment I said it would be a misguided choice.

You can't call posts wind-ups just because they contain what people don't like to hear.

If only someone had told you, you could have adjusted expectations.
You were one of the few calling him out from the start. That made me look up his managerial record and recent employment history. He’s more of an executive / sales person / consultant. Nothing wrong with that per se, but certainly nowhere close to the messiah a lot of fans and the English media claimed he would be.

On the other hand, the German managers in the Premier League do think highly of him, so the truth is probably somewhere in-between.

Well. We know we can do counter attack with this group of players.

We could... Against bigger teams. Those bigger teams figured it out. It took a mistake to score against Chelsea, but rest of the game we were dominated. Liverpool and City dominated us and we had no chance to counter. Counter attacks worked last season but this year it's not gonna.

This disaster of this season excepted, I enjoyed watching us much more under Ole.
The same ole that had us getting thrashed by watford?

Crazy thing the most competent we have looked this season was under carrick.

Kind of odd that we looked very different for about 30 mins against Palace with only 45 mins of training or something, the players seem to do what was instructed by him. We thought we were conserving energy in the next games and it will come on slowly but I'm not so sure now, I mean there's a lot to do for any manager, I've said it's going to taka e while but the players seemed to have rebelled against him perhaps, don't believe in this system and don't fancy the training or there's too much fallout and groups of players.

I must admit I was worried when he first came in that the relationship with the players could go south quickly. We've dropped down to even worse levels.

I’ve been toying with the idea that Rangnick is basically a German Bielsa. Highly influential in the modern game but not good enough to be at a top club.

If he can somehow convince the board to get rid of a lot of these players, I will be happy.
My biggest concern is the total disconnect between how we know for a fact he likes and talks about the way his teams play and how we play. Half a dozen games in and we aren't seeing any of the principles in our style.
Another troubling thing no one can accurately pinpoint what is wrong. It seems everything is wrong.

Hopefully his advice in his advisery role is to tell the board they made a massive mistake hiring him

Yeah, when I called 95% of your posts WUMs I wasn't referring to the Rangnick thread buddy.

To me it seems like our path is quite clearly marked out. The Board never really wanted Ole gone but to save face got rid. And yet Phelan and Fletcher are still here?

With Rangnick moving "upstairs" in the summer I think its looking fairly obvious that he will take Darren Fletcher's job and Fletcher will take the reigns - meaning the Board don't need to make any management decision and the Oleball era can continue. Fletcher is currently learning that Ole style under Rangnick and Ralf just needs to see out 5 months.

Bielsa is a far better, more effective, and more exciting coach. Surely a worse and far less consistent 'manager' in the sense of executive and club runner though.

I get he's tried something different to what Ole was doing but I'm not sure it was needed, and it's certainly not working.

I don't think we were shit because we were playing 4231. We were shit because the players weren't arsed anymore and 3 years of poor coaching caught up with them.

4231 suited most of our players, Bruno gets his role behind the striker where he thrives and Rashford/Greenwood/Sancho get to attack the opposition full backs. We just needed to make sure Bruno actually helps out in midfield instead of playing as a forward like in the last few months of Ole's reign. Alternatively we could try a 433.

The 4222 negated our wide players, took Bruno out of his best position. The 442 we've switched to the last 2 games has left us with so little control in midfield and we've seen no benefit from playing 2 strikers, they're not linking up well and the ball doesn't stick when it's played to them.

Not liking his reign at all to be honest. I expected an upturn in results due to the favourable fixture list but the writing was on the wall after those performances against the bottom three. A 1-0 wolves win is about as predictable as it came.

He needs to understand that this team cannot play this system with the players hes using in it. After the initial manager bounce we had against Palace our players are back to walking around the pitch putting in little effort. We therefore cannot afford to be outnumbered in midfield when we have terrible central midfield players and the laziest group of players in the league.
Playing a system that exposes the weakest part of your team is stupid really .
You cannot also play two 35+ year old forwards in this same system for 90 minutes. It makes no fecking sense.

If he continues with this I’d expect several defeats over the next month.

He’s also now said in his interview that Wolves were controlling the midfield so why did he do nothing at half time to change that despite having two midfielders on the bench.

First place to start is central midfield. You cannot control a game if you have a past-it Matic and a woefully average McTomminay and/or Fred there.

I don't care how many gunmen we have up top if all we can feed them, if we feed them at all, is blanks.

So far, I'm not seeing his impact at all. Nothing.

Sorry but could you elaborate on your last sentence? I couldn’t quite catch your point.

Hes got the worst possible squad in the league in terms of playing the way he wants.

Exactly, and can't seem to drop Ronaldo for political reasons. Ronaldo is the antithesis of the way he wants to play, yet plays every game. Work that one out. We're as bad as PSG for that. You can't play pressing with this version of Ronaldo.

We've played 442 the last two games.

So why did that type of manager get the job mid season for 6 months then ? Is a shit appointment by our incompetent board once again. Conte was the man, and now he will get top 4 with fecking Tottenham instead of us.
