Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

I know him from his Bundesliga days quite well. More a squad builder DoF than a fantastic head coach, so I wouldn't expect any immediate fireworks. His sides are usually very disciplined defensively, I could even imagine him playing a 442 counter attacking style, he is not very possession orientated.

Apparently, we gave him a 2-year contract after this season as an advisor. Half measures, but I hope he can teach Fletch and Murtough a thing or two about how to pick the right coaches and players.

If he's as tactically astute as many say, surely he can figure out how to use one of the greatest players to ever grace the pitch.
 
Love it. Just to the fact that a proven tactically astute person now will decide how we play, really calms me down. They will now train and play in a certain way, and hopefully improve as times goes. The big question is whether we will reach a stable state in terms of trusting and knowing the tactics and actually making results.

Not the safe and predictable choice. Shows ambition of a certain way of playing. From being embarrased and tired of our predictable and dull way of playing, I am now very excited to watch us.
 
Great appointment. Not sure if he’ll get top 4 this season because he will need time to do what he does in terms of fitness and organisation, but you never know. The consultancy role sounds great. Couple of questions though…

-What happens with Ronaldo? Will be interesting.
-Fletcher, Murtaugh, Ragnick is a lot of football directors. How will that work out?
-Will Ralf have authority to bring his coaches in now? Fitness people? I think if you get Rangnick in, you’ve got to let him at it straight away.

This is going to be fun!
 
Essentially he is coming for 6 months and then doing the director of football job?

Eh, Ragnick is a bit of a purist. I'm not sure how much evidence there is of him ever compromising much... so we'll see how it goes! Of course it can be done, and Ragnick will be great for large parts of our squad. Sancho will take to him effortlessly obviously coming from Dortmund and being more used to pressing anyway, but he'll love Bruno and Fred IMO. He'll also be the coach Rashford and Greenwood need to help them learn how to be more effective. Other parts like Ronaldo who can't press anymore, or guys who dally on the ball for too long, too slowly and don't try forward passes will be a question mark.
 
Did they just burn down Disneyland? Or will Disneyland burn down Ralf? His emphasis on young players might actually be a good fit. Not sure where Ronaldo is going to fit in though.

This guy would make a great DoF?
 
I'm happy we look to be shifting away from the 'manager' approach and going down the route of better structure of a DOF and first team coach. What the feck happens to the likes of Fletcher now though? Does his and Murtough's role's have any weight at all? Fletch does warms up's for Christ sake

Adi Hutter would be one. He is Austrian but has done well in Bundesliga.

Maybe CR7 understands that his chances get bigger to shine offensively if he does a little more work there. Atleast that is why Bayern's offensives are hard workers - they get it back.
 
Utter shambles of a club, the players wont want to impress a lad that will be gone in 6 months, look what happened when SAF said he was retiring the first time.

I believe Ronaldo must sacrifice the amount of minutes he plays, or he will have to adapt his style. There isn't really an alternative, what do you think would be the solution apart from dropping him all together?

Yeah but it only catches people out because this place is full of conspiracy theories about the Glazers and their so-called desire to appoint 'yes men' or 'human shield'.

The reality is, the club have been trying to get it right for 6/7 years now, they have just been going about it in a very incompetent manner.

Hopefully this appointment will work out, certainly seems a step in the right direction
 
Ballsy move for sure. From what I have read, this could be an excellent appointment. Give him a chance to prove what he can do as a "head coach", if he does well then potentially offer him a permanent role that may go beyond that.

Only downside would be tearing up the entire DoF/structure for someone who is apparently a control freak a-la Ferguson, but im much happier with this than Valverde.

The question is whether there is a midterm benefit for the club, if Ronaldo was younger I would agree but someone like Rangnick is unlikely to be focused on the short term and will want to set a system that will benefit the club for the next 3-4 years. Otherwise if it is just about this season then yes, he should build something that fits Ronaldo.
 
Curious why some people feel this increases chances of ten Hag in the summer. Love it, but how?

The best news in this is that in the next two years, he seems to have a de-facto DoF role (for the first team). Probably a good opportunity for Murtough to learn from him while he continues focusing on the bigger picture (the entire United, aka academy, women's team etc).
Rangnick is a good coach, but he is a brilliant DoF.
