Well, Haaland isn't just an obviously good player, he's one of the two greatest talents of his generation with another one already going to Madrid (all but confirmed). So it's very unlikely that a manager would be against it. Also managers don't have a full control over the signings in most top clubs and we're not getting another Fergie. Such high-profile long-term signings should be a club's decision first and manager's second.

The new manager will want whoever he's brought in, because we will target players for that style and system. This new style and structure will then be used to base our scouting and hiring of a new manager and any players will have to fit that style of play. That's literally the entire point. We're finally getting our act together now Murtough is in charge.

What’s the point in hiring a DOF and then giving him no autonomy to build the team? We either continue going down the route of allowing each manager to take a wrecking ball to the team every 3 years or we appoint a DOF and let them build the team and help appoint a manager that can work within the limits of the team they’re building.

When a £200m talent is available for £70m you are stupid not to get him. It's a sensible business decision and shouldn't be mutually exclusive to other decisions.
If this gets in the way of priorities then the Board need to be smarter....

Fletcher is technical director and spends more time on the training pitch than the office. Murtough, who’s making good decisions already, is still relatively inexperienced in his role so why not bring someone in who knows what they’re doing for a couple of years?

We haven’t got anyone with the job title DOF - Even Rangnick is just hired on a consultancy basis, whatever the feck that is.
Closest thing we have to DOF is Murtough, can’t remember the actual title.
I'm hoping Rangnick's influence will skyrocket so Murtough steps down to Technical Director and Fletcher is sent to coach the academy.

As you say, for him to work effectively, the players have to work on his methods.

Nah he's legitimately got greatest striker ever potential and would be perfect for what we're trying to do as a team. I get the feeling whoever ends up with Haaland will be the powerhouse in Europe over the next decade. He's that good. At the end of the day scoring goals is the hardest part of the game and Haaland is going to be the best at that while also being a seamless fit for any side with an emphasis on pressing.
Fast, powerful, skilful, hard working with a one in one type scoring record. You do everything to get that in. If he's not the #1 target for the club then something is wrong. Yes we needs in other areas but there are generational talents that supersede whatever needs you may have.
I was kidding, its unrealistic to expect that. Maybe we'll see something new, he'll have a training or 2 maybe with the team but in any case I'm expecting to see progress in a matter of weeks.

I think Fletcher is closer to the team, attends training sessions. A little bit more hands on with the team.

I don’t think he’s allowed in the “red zone” if he’s going to sit in a box during the game. Covid bubble rules apply to the first team.
If he was to be anywhere near the team this week he wouldn’t be allowed to sit in a box, he’d have to sit in the dugout.
So he'll have an assistant manager and then presumably Dwight Schrute as the assistant to the assistant.

Carrick sounded extremely unenthusiastic when talking about Rangnick in his presser. I think they’re being kept on almost for the sake of seeing out their contract.
I do wonder if there were conditions that allowed the club to move on in the summer whereas now they’d have to pay the whole thing out. Would explain why we were so desperate to get to the end of the season.
