But what if the new guy doesn’t want Haaland for whatever reason? Do the board already know who the new guy is going to be or are they buying Haaland (obviously good player) and working around that when searching for the new guy?
Well, Haaland isn't just an obviously good player, he's one of the two greatest talents of his generation with another one already going to Madrid (all but confirmed). So it's very unlikely that a manager would be against it. Also managers don't have a full control over the signings in most top clubs and we're not getting another Fergie. Such high-profile long-term signings should be a club's decision first and manager's second.

Not that I would be against Haaland but unless this reads after signing midfielders and defenders then TBH it is like putting a pretty bow on a dog turd

Expecting a big performance tonight with a lot of energy and hard work from everyone on the field in the knowledge that their new boss is watching on with big expectations.

Whats the thoughts of the cafe that he is needing to bring in some of his own coaching staff?? Doesn’t sound good for the lads that are already there!! Does have a feeling that Ralf will be quickly moving on people that ain’t up to scratch..

Must be a song there about the German sent to clean up Man United
It's great news.

I remember the leaks in the last weeks of the Ole era of how the coaching staff were brilliant and how the criticism was "unfair". They have always been more interested in PR than achieving results on the pitch. I hope Rangnick gets rid of them all.

How is that a 'plan' to have him watch from the stands  while Carrick and the boys throw away another three points in the league.
Yeah let’s put RR in tonight with no training sessions and hasn’t met the team.

A game plan is worked on through the week ffs. As if he was ever going to be in charge.

Some of you lot aren't the sharpest. Complaining that he's only here for 6 months as manager so what's he going to achieve. Oh but what if the new manager doesn't like so and so.

You do realise he's being brought in because this is the style of play United want to go forwards with. He's going to restructure the club from top to bottom over the next 2 and half years so that everything is geared towards this as well as change the structure of the teams from youth through to first team. Such as he did when he got rid of the U23's to bring down the age of the first team. This is literally what he does. The new manager will want whoever he's brought in, because we will target players for that style and system. This new style and structure will then be used to base our scouting and hiring of a new manager and any players will have to fit that style of play. That's literally the entire point. We're finally getting our act together now Murtough is in charge.

If he hasn't won the Premier League by Sunday, I want him gone!

He won't be in charge. But I'm quite sure the coaching sessions will involve some of his recommended drills

What’s the point in hiring a DOF and then giving him no autonomy to build the team? We either continue going down the route of allowing each manager to take a wrecking ball to the team every 3 years or we appoint a DOF and let them build the team and help appoint a manager that can work within the limits of the team they’re building.

Which is more sustainable in your opinion?

Some people prefer to moan rather than think. They’ve done it all their lives and they won’t change now.

When a £200m talent is available for £70m you are stupid not to get him. It's a sensible business decision and shouldn't be mutually exclusive to other decisions.

If this gets in the way of priorities then the Board need to be smarter....

Sell assets not needed...Pogba and Lingard in January for whatever we can get. Release Mata, release Cavani to free up wages and salaries. Sell Jones for a packet of quavers or even buy someone else a packet of quavers to release some of the salary burden!

Or failing acheiving the above get a bridge loan and get the DM in either way.

Didn't we already have 2 directors of football? Darren Fletcher and the other guy? Isn't it going to get a bit crowded in that office?

Fletcher is technical director and spends more time on the training pitch than the office. Murtough, who’s making good decisions already, is still relatively inexperienced in his role so why not bring someone in who knows what they’re doing for a couple of years?

We haven’t got anyone with the job title DOF - Even Rangnick is just hired on a consultancy basis, whatever the feck that is.

Closest thing we have to DOF is Murtough, can’t remember the actual title.

Agreed, there are alot of players in our squad with potential, I can see him improving alot of them.

Jota was a very good player at Wolves, he fitted Klopps system, which is why they bought him.

I could reverse this and say, look at Klopp with Benteke, Sakho, Clyne. Yes, these managers can improve players but sometimes they just aren't able to.

RR hasn't got much time with this squad, his aim would be more improving the team and the squad rather than focus too much on individuals. It is also up to the individual to improve and find ways of improving.

Good point about those players who Klopp for example was not able to improve.
As you say, for him to work effectively, the players have to work on his methods.

So now there will be 3 people with unknown job descriptions......(apparently Darren's involves standing on the touch lines during games). Unless some people go.

Nah he's legitimately got greatest striker ever potential and would be perfect for what we're trying to do as a team. I get the feeling whoever ends up with Haaland will be the powerhouse in Europe over the next decade. He's that good. At the end of the day scoring goals is the hardest part of the game and Haaland is going to be the best at that while also being a seamless fit for any side with an emphasis on pressing.

Fast, powerful, skilful, hard working with a one in one type scoring record. You do everything to get that in. If he's not the #1 target for the club then something is wrong. Yes we needs in other areas but there are generational talents that supersede whatever needs you may have.

In that case, we will have to accept an increase in injuries. Happened to all teams, especially so mid season.
I was kidding, its unrealistic to expect that. Maybe we'll see something new, he'll have a training or 2 maybe with the team but in any case I'm expecting to see progress in a matter of weeks.

The new manager will be decided by end of season. What manager in their right mind won’t want Haaland?

I think Fletcher is closer to the team, attends training sessions. A little bit more hands on with the team.

Rangnick’s consultancy position sounds utter bollocks. Hopefully clarified in 6 months.

Does anybody else find it suspicious that with Ralf in the county but not legally allowed to work due to visa issues, the club hasn't posted any training videos to their YouTube channel this week?

They've not skipped a training video this season.

Has Rangnick been more involved in training this week than we might have been lead to believe?

Carrick may be taking the team but I hope Rangnick at least has a pre match talk with the players.
I don’t think he’s allowed in the “red zone” if he’s going to sit in a box during the game. Covid bubble rules apply to the first team.

If he was to be anywhere near the team this week he wouldn’t be allowed to sit in a box, he’d have to sit in the dugout.

Good.

Carrick sounded extremely unenthusiastic when talking about Rangnick in his presser. I think they’re being kept on almost for the sake of seeing out their contract.

I do wonder if there were conditions that allowed the club to move on in the summer whereas now they’d have to pay the whole thing out. Would explain why we were so desperate to get to the end of the season.
