Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Agree with this. A lot of people said that our squad should be good enough to challenge, and wanted Ole gone because we fell short, while parking the bus and playing two in the middle against weaker sides. Now Rangnick wants the same players to actually attack, press and work harder and suddenly the players are all lazy, can't pass, can't press, don't have the technical ability and are not fit enough. Sure it will take some time and we won't be the prime scouse against Palace but if the players can't cope with the new style, then we will have a lot of rebuilding to do. They'll be fine.

Good managers know how to adapt to their players. Rangnick isn't as rigid tactically as the idea of his style makes him seem. I think the media have always been shortsighted when it comes to these things. We aren't the United Ole inherited and I always find it funny how the media constantly lumps that team with this one. For example, Keane saying that the players did the same thing with Mourinho, despite the fact that almost all of Mourinho starting xi aren't playing or influential. Unless they are specifically talking about Pogba, those type of statements don't make sense. This squadis good enough to challenge with a decent manager. It's not perfect, and some of even our starting players like AWB still have flaws in their game, but that does not mean their not good enough to perform for a top side. We don't have 10 mctominays running around on the pitch. We have Ronaldo, Fernandes, Pogba, Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood, Varane, Maguire, Shaw and De Gea starting large sums of our game. That's far more than most top teams have. We also have the finances to make signings and the value in these players to sell and sign someone else instead. We need to start having a standard again and that starts with recognizing that we have more resources than most teams and therefore not accepting mediocrity because x position hasn't been filled. For years we moaned about how a right winger would open up our attack under Ole, we got one, and the signing showed that the system, rather than simply the position was the cause of our problems. Who is to say our midfield ( Fred especially) isn't simply a victim of Ole's previous tactics.

Yeah it's pretty much the default with us. With LvG it was a bunch of dutch players, Ole it was Josh King etc.

Easy clicks.

Whilst I agree the majority of these are just clickbait, using Josh King isn't the best example since we actually were going to sign him but we ended up with Ighalo because Bournemouth wanted too much money for what was essentially a 3rd choice number 9 for us.

This person was a rabid pro Ole poster. Probably trying to find some link here to make it out that Ole wasn't a disaster and whatever was going on wasn't his fault.
Fully agree he had to go, should have been after Liverpool at the latest.

In hindsight, it would have been better at the end of last season, but the board were never going to do that.

It's not even hindsight though. It was rightly questioned at the time. The fact the club also didn't have a plan shows they're incompetence too.
Interviewing potential candidates before deciding who to appoint will also have slowed the process.

Or did you want them to appoint someone straight away with no due diligence?

I hope people aren't expecting him to turn us into Klopp's Liverpool overnight. It would take years for him to get us playing like that. IMO the best we can hope for is that we start to resemble Hassenhuttl's Southampton but with better, more clinical players after a couple of months.

Dont know about most indeed...

But Ajax currently has this issue with Onana (big soap, doesnt want to renew after he was caught with illegal substance and suspended for a year.. Ten Hag has now taken him in again and played him against Besiktas). Ajax also has the same thing with Mazraoui who's agent is Raiola who is lobbying for him abroad. Ten Hag still plays him almost every match.

But I can imagine that for most of the players I mention the club wants to renew but the player/agent are weighing out their options across Europa.. (which is basically what is happening now with Pogba).

Ok, fair enough.. What's your additional point, Im curious. .
How many of them are injured and won't be available until February?

He looks like one of those scientists who observe how rats do in a labyribth.

Ralf and Ralph do not like each other. ;-)

Yep heard the old git, and the plastic one. Jonny Evans was OK for us and I liked him, but if he's better than Varane, Maguire ,Souness is deluded, I know he's a jealous guy and always has been where Utd concerned, it must be his teeth are playing him up, Same dentist as klopp, firmino.
Rangnick has coached and helped klopp and klopp has bought off the top of my head at least 4 or more players that have gone through Rangnick. So what Souness is on about only he knows. Dinosaur
Can’t wait until we’re comfortably better than them again and winning big trophies, it will finish the cnut off.

He should never have been hired as the full time manager.

They share a similar philosophy though.
Of course they do, as Ralph came up trough Ralf's system. But in the end Ralf believed him not to be good enough for the next step and let him go.

This visa stuff is a joke. Was hoping he’d be in charge from the start of this week, need a win tomorrow badly.

I must of missed it…I didn’t realise he was in Manchester.

I thought he was waiting in some hotel outside a German airport for a visa.

Glad he is hear and can begin.

The statement was that most coaches wouldnt havent used him from the start of this season and Pogba was some blind spot of Ole... Now you can put a lot of things in Oles shoes, but iI dont think he handled the Pogba situation any differently than other (top) coaches would have...

The situation from here onwards is different indeed as Ragnick will look to restructure the team and it wouldnt be wise to go out of your ways to integrate a player who is coming back from quite from quite an injury and will only be there for another 3/4 months..

But then still if you ask me you would be crazy not to keep him around to make us of if we for example are still in a tight schedule and battling for 4th..

He flew in before the new entry rules on testing but his visa still isn't approve so he can't bein just yet.

The second would at least show some kind of progress in playing style

Ralf needs to sort out the midfield, RB and CB positions before we look to deal with the #9 position

Certainly the first two are top priority but still think Harry can find form again under a proper coach, however would be happy to admit if I end up getting that badly wrong.

I hope he will be successful with the players and make them quickly implement his ideas.

Next few games IMO are all winnable, just hope we beat Arsenal it will be very crucial for everyone to push forward. Top four by the end of the first half of the season will be my wish.

It seems like he'll bring in 2 or 3 of his own staff.

Yeah think I saw a tweet from Whitwell about him bringing in an assistant and video analyst, however think we could be waiting a while until they are visible on the bench

Feels like we're going for the old version of the new breed of managers. Buying a solid 2010 car when other teams have top of the line motors.

"X and X learned from him. He must be good!"

Why is he in Russia then? He'll be better than Solskjaer, not a big achievement but it's uninspired.

Whatever happens, I hope he's a bastard to the squad. I'll be happy with that. They've had it too easy for too long. Run 'em until they hate you, Ralf.

another thing too. I was looking at Lokomotivs transfers. There’s nothing inspired there in the last few years. I don’t know much about his time there but they were beaten 3-0 last week in the EL. If he doesn’t get any real power to shape the squad and move lazy players on then this will fail just like everything else we’ve half arsed.

Erm he's an interim manager coming in during a season. Did you expect the club to get Pep in?

And that's where you should be quiet I imagine.

He was at the club for 6 months and this man blames him for Lokomotiv's transfer for the last few years. What a joke :wenger:. What's next ? Rangnick cause the new covid variant ?

He's also only going to be here 6 months and then he becomes a consultant. if people are thinking he’s going to wave a magic wand and get our existing players pressing and playing a totally new energetic style then I think they might be in for a shock. I just assumed he’d have had a few cheap but effective transfers up his sleeve for the job in Russia but they don’t seem to have done much in his time there. Lokomotiv were 3rd in their league in 20/21 and now they are currently 4th. Maybe it was supposed to be a few years project… just playing devils advocate. I’m as excited about the possibilities as anyone else. He’ll need genuine power to shape this team though.

This is such a pointless jab in the dark, why blame him for results when he isn't the manager and for not having a short term impact when his remit was clearly for the long run? Of course we aren't expecting any magic but we have every right to be optimistic for the future because we know he will help navigate the club in the right direction.

Tour rules state no touching the grass
In the 2nd pic it looks like Murtough has just realised how steep the slope alongside the pitch is!

Because I can't post in the match day thread - just a heads-up that the game will be on Amazon Prime for anyone that has it.

I'm very happy with the appointment of Rangnick, especially his two years as a consultant. I've said somewhere in this thread a week ago this would potentially be the life changing, much needed appointment we've desperately needed in the last decade. It's probably too hopeful from me back then but it does look like it's the case now with the new info about his role after the interim.

It's absolutely the right and correct step for United to head toward the modern football. However I'm actually quite worry about whether he could do what he did here. Managing the superstars is very different with managing young upcoming players, as it's showed with Tuchel, PSG and Chelsea. It's much harder to motivate players with high salaries and already proved themselves to some extent than the ones who still haven't yet.

United has made a right step, but now the question is do we has enough courage and determination to do it all the way or not. The club should be fully behind him and support him to boot out any player who do not want to or could not be in the same page with the new direction. If you do things half assed it's better you do nothing at all.

Yes, but something happened in Leipzig and Hasenhüttel left.
I read that he wanted a longer term deal but Rangnick would only give him short term. Doesn't neccesarily mean he rates him less.
