Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

He's not going to be able to do much this afternoon, heck he won't even be able to do much before Sunday.

When Tuchel arrived at Chelsea, they still looked mediocre for the first month or so.

This is because the players they have are mediocre.

Hopefully means two out of Phelany Carricky and McKenna out.

Phelan will definitely be let go at some point. I imagine they're all on the same clauses as Ole where the club terminating means paying a year's wages as severance. So they won't let all 3 go at once.
There's some denial around the issue at the moment but the previous manager's assistant really has no business being here. Not only was he right beside the incompetence of the old regime but an assistant manager is as interpersonal as a role can come. If Rangnick brings an assistant what does Phelan's job description become and why do we need it?

Crazy to say Ole wasn't even the least qualified person on that bench.

Hopefully this guy just being there will make the players perform well and try to impress. Win tonight and then at the weekend and we could be joint 4th with West Ham depending on other results obv but they have Chelsea at weekend! Let’s go devils!!! A new era, we need to start picking up points!

Covid regulations. People can’t just mix with the first team without a negative covid test and some quarantine time
False (As the bellend Christan Falk would say ) - he doesn't need to quarantine. He was already in England before the change of travel laws.

Harsh on Phelan considering he was Fergie's assistant during some of our most successful years. If I were any of the lads who Ole brought in from Norway I'd be far more worried than Phelan, Carrick or McKenna.

I can just imagine him turning up to the first training session with a paintball gun and shouting run.

I hope people aren't expecting him to turn us into Klopp's Liverpool overnight. It would take years for him to get us playing like that. IMO the best we can hope for is that we start to resemble Hassenhuttl's Southampton but with better, more clinical players after a couple of months.

RR has said in an (old) interview it would take him 6 weeks (in a general sense, not just about Man Utd) to implement his new ideas, but thats not possible in the middle of a season with games coming thick and fast. Glad we appointed him this side of the New Year hopefully he can work his magic and have us playing a lot more solidly

 Nice! But I did hear something about a "red zone" the other day, which basically means if you're training with the first team, you have to sit on the bench (like Fletch is) and not the stands so the players bubble isn't infected. Probably the reason he's also in a box tonight and not the stands.

This is what I don’t like. You have this high expectation before he even meets the team, you want success right away so if things don’t go to plan in the first few games you get mad and start acting like a child.

Chelsea team is mediocre? Get out of here.

Wouldn't it be something more reasonable like a couple of negative covid tests and then you can join? That's the standard for hospitals AFAIK. Potential exposure => Stay at home, have 3 consecutive days of negative tests => go back.

Yeah I think that's the case but he won't be able to wander in and out of the changing room today is what I'm trying to say.

Why would he be in the stands when there is director boxes available? He'll get a better view and keep warm.

He's not taking charge purely because he's not trained, nothing to do with anything else.

It might be harsh but Phelan wasn't highly rated among United fans even back then. Obviously from the outside looking in we don't know what he brought or didn't bring but we knew the football that we saw every week and knew it was some of the worst in the Fergie era. That whole period is why we're now dealing with so many people thinking SAF played pragmatic football with little organisation in attack. His tenure spanned over some of our worst football in 25 years. Little wonder there were questions on how much value he was really adding.

I think Carrick and co are only staying because termination of their contracts means more money spend!! I hope they are no where near the club in the summer.

Wondering who Ralf going to bring though!

Just wack him in the NE 426 and he can get a good corner angle

He should never have been hired as the full time manager.
He did at least manage to get 3rd and 2nd finishes, let's not diminish what he did just because of a poor start to this season.

Whatever anyone thinks of him, imo, he improved the squad but wasn't able to take the next step that was needed.

After reading all the posts since RR announcement, I see a lot of moaning and negativity. I hope finally things will change for good. Hoping for the best.

People losing their shit over a delay because he needed to get a work permit is a bit embarrassing. We wanted this guy so we're prepared to wait.

If Rangnick really hasn't done any work with the team's training and is truly just a spectator tonight he can only come away unimpressed with the magnitude of work that needs to be done on our general play and possession retention. May not take long to be unimpressed by the level of knowledge of the coaching team here. Heck I even half expect to see the search for coaches and assistant intensify in the coming weeks.

I don't think you need to do any kind of work or watch much of our games to be unimpressed.
Just have a look at our most recent W/D/L statistics and it will paint the picture of our state, right away.

How lucky is Ralf to get this gig!! Must Be a dream come true, joins the biggest club in the world who‘s players are on there knees, gets a 6 month contract to turn things around On the playing field which lets be honest a man with his experience it should be easy!! he then gets moved upstairs on a 2 years Deal to sort out the running of the club... not just any club Mind u a multi billion pound club
i know I have made it sound an easy task but if he nails it we will be building a statue of this man mark my words #arisesirralf

The whole of Europe has been unimpressed with our performances for months. Short of living under a rock, it'sa a safe bet he knows what he's walking into

He'll probably be speaking to Carrick dealing him tactics and subs through an earpiece. Hopefully.

Sexy German stuff? Are you referring to him cruising up and down the sidelines in Old Trafford in a miniature mortised BMW, wearing leather lederhosn, suggestively eating currywurst? And You expect me to remain patient!?
 That’s exactly what I’m referring too…with David Hasselhoff’s greatest hits over the tannoy.

Technically speaking, who's our manager tonight? I know Rangnick's in the stands but he's already signed the contract so?

But he was highly rated by SAF. He was his assistant manager for years and before that he worked his way up. When SAF went off to scout De Gea in person he left the team to Phelan. Also, he didn't coach the players that was Rene's job.

SAF rated Moyes. And are you really really sure about the bolded? Per Giggs;
‘He (SAF) would take the meeting a lot of the time on the opposition, but actually Steve McClaren, Bryan Kidd, Renee Meulensteen, Carlos Queiroz, Mike Phelan, they would be the ones who were implementing them tactics on the training ground. ‘They would set up the training sessions to implement what we want to do on that Saturday and the manager would just oversee it.

However the most damning thing is how Phelan who has been an assistant manager at the highest level for so long couldn't even step into the interim manager role for a couple days. It was given to Carrick of all people, the least experience CV of the bunch.

I think they were there simply because after sacking ole they couldn’t get rid of the coaching staff and let the team coach itself until we get a manager. Carrick himself has said he knows he doesn’t deserve to still be there

We know why they're here in the present. We are having this discussion because we don't know if they should be here in the future.

SAF was a manager that put a lot of thought into his backroom staff. Throughout his time at United he always had a good number two (Brian Kidd, Steve McClaren, Walter Smith, Carlos Queiroz etc) I find it hard to believe that he would've kept Phelan around for so long if he didn't rate him. Make no mistake Phelan played an important role in that set up especially in Fergie's later years when he was getting older. There were a lot of times when Phelan would be the one out on the touchline shouting instructions.

Also, Rio said on his show a few weeks ago that Phelan wasn't involved too much in the day to day training and it was Rene that did most of the coaching. Of course Phelan was involved in tactics and team selections but SAF was calling all the shots. It's hard to blame Phelan for us playing 'pragmatic football'
