Rafael Van der Vaart

Berbatov is a striker NOT a creative midfielder. He said himself he struggled in his first season trying to play deep and Fergie also admitted it was a mistake. Plus how many times do people say he looks ineffective when trying to contribute from deep especially when he takes to years 2 join up with our attack play.

A bit odd considering he still plays that role for us... Its like SAF openly admits made a mistake but continued to play him as a SS and put Rooney up front as a CF

Well yes, but Park was the original replacement for Giggs on the left wing. So that doesnt mean we wont get someone else in when the player doesnt fully establish themselves as a proper replacement, as happened with Nani coming in.

Point conceded but I feel Anderson has shown a lot promise and this is definitely his make or break season as last season was Nani's. I also think that Anderson is a bigger prospect than Nani in the long term. It isn't an easy feat to establish yourself as a central midfielder and judging from the Anderson of last season before he got injured, I am very excited and hopeful for things to come.

Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart admits it would be "very hard" to reject a move to Manchester United this summer.

Rafael van der Vaart has failed to command a regular place

Van der Vaart, who represented Netherlands at the World Cup finals, could be surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu as Real have signed Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria and Sergio Canales to play in advanced midfield roles this summer.

While the former Ajax and Hamburg star recently said he does not want to leave the club, the prospect of a move to Old Trafford has forced him to reconsider his position.

"I could never play for another club in Spain and the truth is that if you are leaving Real Madrid, there is only one club you can join that is not a step down - and that's Manchester United," Van der Vaart told the Daily Express.

"They are a huge club and if the reported interest they have in me turns out to be true, then I would really have to sit down and listen.

"If Manchester United could offer me first-team football with the situation as it is at Madrid, it would be very hard to turn down. Alex Ferguson is a great coach and I would never think about joining a team where I didn't believe I could win things, so all of a sudden that limits your choices.

"At Manchester United you know success is likely and that's a big factor for me at this stage of my career. "If [Real boss] Jose Mourinho makes it clear I won't play much, I see my future in English football."

sign him?
Has it been posted that VDV says this is inevented bollocks and that he never said any of it or talked to any media.

Wouldn't VDV's role and Berbatov role in a current Manchester United team overlap? Considering we tend to play Berba with Rooney, i think i would rather Berbatov dropping deep, than having a playmaker like VDV who doesn't contribute to any defensive duties. We would get raped each and every time we meet a decent opposition.

I think it was more Berbatov was playing as deep as an attacking midfielder and now he's playing as deep as a withdrawn striker, had nothing to do with Rooney's position because he's been playing right up top for over 3 years now regardless of partners.

Their roles can't over lap because one is a playmaking striker and the other is an attacking midfield playmaker.

Well with Berba last season Rooney was definately pushed further up the pitch, before that he was usually playing on the left or in 2008 when he, Ronaldo and Tevez were all interchanging so much it was hard to say where either of them would play.

I was only commenting on someone saying that SAF admited fault with playing Berbatov in a deeper role in his first season yet he still play a similar role now

source on that?

According to Spanish daily AS, Van Der Vaart has said "I have not spoken to any English newspaper. It was invented."

He insisted, "I want to fight as usual."

Papers are saying that he has officially been put on the market for anyone who would pay around 16 million Euro. Schalke first team to express an interest supposedly.

Imo, very good player and this amount of money is not too much for his quality. He would do well in a team that gives him consistent chance for 1st team football. Good technique, vision and also contributes with goals frequently.

He's played far closer to the front man than the middle 2.

I agree but he's still put his shift in in midfield though. In fact his workrate and willingness to get back and help out has been my biggest surprise so far with him.

So he's upfront but putting in his shift in midfield. That's that settled.

Greatest signing to grace the PL. Can't believe how blessed we are to watch him week in week out.
