It was great to have him back, very good cross which unfortunately none of our front men could latch on to. Taken off purely as he had run out of steam.

He's incredibly consistent isn't he. He rarely has a bad game regardless of the quality of the opposition. Have no idea why he was taken off. When he's not around please play Fabio Moyes, their games are incredibly similar and we now know how important he is to the team.

We've tried asking Moyes to play Fabio but unfortunately he isn't listening to us.

Moving Valencia to RB cost us the goal. I've no idea why he insists on leaving Fabio out all together.

I like how he has cut out his rashness, but hasn't completely reeled it in. He still knows when to get a bit nasty and push his luck with some grabbing and impeding. He seems to know what he can get away with.

I love a dirty player me. No homo.

He really does make us look a whole lot better. Having him back reinforces how much we lose when we put someone like smalling there. If we want to play a game that pushes the ball wide, we need full backs that are comfortable overlapping and attacking themselves.

Can you believe he actually has an identical twin that can play the other flank and doesn't even get a half chance to succeed? Unbelievable.

I certainly don't understand the situation with Fabio, purely on an individual basis. The fact he's Rafa's identical brother hardly proves he can and will be just as good.

But he has proven that he can play here at a high level. Fabio made RB his own when his brother was out and was very good.

I'm in the Moyes camp but the Fabio situation is beyond baffling. Moyes just seems set in his ways of height at RB when Rafael is out and only left-footed players at LB.

Retweeted onto my twitter feed but I can't find verification on these Rafael quotes anywhere (so I've spoilered them):

I love him more then words can describe. Give him a pay rise, make him captain, just give him whatever he wants. The freedom of Manchester for all I care.

Yeh, my man crush levels are at a dangerous level.

Got him on the back of my shirt last season, I really think he can go on and become a United great. The way he has improved over the years and matured is a credit to him and the club.

I was having a bit of a debate on the weekend regarding Rafael and the Brazilian National Team, that'll bring forth to the caf.

Keeping everything the same, his form for United and the mistake at the Olympics, but he played for Real Madrid or Barcelona, would he still struggle to get into the National team? I don't think he should be starting over Alves, but I do think he should've been called up to the National Team over Danilo.

If he was Madrids rb and played last season like he did with us, I have no doubts he would atleast be in the squad.

He is the future of brazil but they keep fecking him around.

Their loss our gain I suppose.

Yes, I think he would be in the Brazil team if he played for one of the big teams in Spain or even Italy.

Whether that is just me looking through red tinted glasses, maybe but I feel a lot of fans feel the same way. For me, he was the best right back in the league last season.

A real shame for him that Brazil with him is sort of like Spain with De Gea. I'm pretty sure if both played for Barca or Madrid, they would both be starting for their countries (maybe not starting for De Gea because of Del Bosque and Casillas, but you get it).

I love him though, one of my favourite players, so good and always gives 100%. It's between him and Jones for future United captain IMO but I think he'd be more suited to it, because he's a better player and influences our play both going forward and defensively.

He's one of the few truly top notch players at this club, I really hope Moyes treats him with the respect he deserves.

Is there any part of him that isn't loveable? Fantastic player, great attitude, loves the club and he kinda looks like one of the flower pot men.

His new haircut isn't that good anymore. Otherwise he's fine.

Yeh, I would like to see the curls back. Not Fellaini curls but the Rafael of 2-3 years ago.

He is one of my favourites but I don't think he was great tbf.

Looked a bit jaded to me, once he gets a couple of games under his belt he's gong to make a huge difference

He needs a winger in front of him to play at his best going forward. Most of the time he had nobody there to link up play with.

When we lose games and people feel the need to post comments like "the players couldn't give a feck," go watch this guy play. His work rate is on a different planet to any other player in our squad, in my opinion.

Not what we have come to expect in recent weeks, but his season has been badly disturbed with injuries, and the team being out of sorts on the whole could be a reason why he has struggled. When the team settles he'll be fine hopefully. He's another that seems to lack confidence and he's another nervy performer.Moyes has a job on trying to repair and maintain the players confidence but this he must do and quick!

Was poor in the first half but back to his usual good self in the second (like most people). Not at his best, probably isn't back to full match sharpness yet after being out for so long but there's such a big difference between having him there, and anyone else we try to put there.

I don't think I've seen anyone ever try harder for every ball like this lad did today. He gave nothing up. He's amazing.

One of our best performers today. Welbeck will get praised for scoring and Valencia will get praise for putting their left back under pressure, but so many of our chances came from Rafael's work. Simply brilliant today.
