He gets 'it', he's a bit like Patrice in that sense. He's a proper United player, if was a bit taller he'd be a perfect United centre-midfielder.

Yeh they must mean Fabio. Zero chance of Rafael leaving.

Nani signs new contract - queue the tabloids having no other stories, so he must be leaving again.

Rafael best young RB in the league, must be leaving.

I really am in the wrong job, this journalism lark seems so easy.

On that sky article there's people arguing that Johnson and (wait for it) Micah Richards are a class above Rafael. The retard is alive and kicking.

Micah Richards isn't even in the top 3 right backs. He's not even the best right back at City. Zabaleta is a beast, he's always having good games whether he's playing in a big game or a not so high profile match. He is so much better than Richards it's laughable to disregard him when talking about the best right backs in the league.

I don't see the hype with Johnson, I think he gets hyped up a lot because he's England's best right back and plays for a top club, so by default, he should be the best right back in the league. For me, Rafael and Zabaleta are the best right backs in the league. Coleman has been consistently producing very good performances. To say Johnson and Richards are the best and disregard these 3 is just absolute stupidity from Sky.

So, if by some miracle we sold Rafael, who could we realistically get that's better? There are so few really good full backs around now (though with Shaw and Davies there seems to be a mini revival at LB) that I'm struggling to imagine who we'd go for.

Micah Richards.

Football fans just love writing young players off for some reason. So many young players get labelled as "shit" by opposition fans at some point. Even Ronaldo was laughed at by Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime who couldn't / wouldn't see his potential. And Bale, Ramsey, De Gea. Rafael is another one of those players.

If Rafael did leave, which i hope to feck he doesn't, we'd go for Seamus Coleman i reckon

I will start off by saying I am backing Moyes 100%.

But if he isn't convinced by Rafael and Fabio, I am going to question if Moyes is the right man for the job.

Today's game is about pace, skill, technical ability and football intelligence. Both twins have all of these. I really hope Moyes doesn't think that fullbacks need to simply defend and send in early crosses to the box.

So you are 100% behind Moyes as long as he agrees with your assessment of players.100%.

The Rafael rumors could very well be bullshit but the Fabio situation is baffling.

I actually think Moyes has done a good job handling the squad this season. Keeping Rooney and Nani I thought was brilliant and giving Janujaz a chance too.

But the Fabio situation is beyond fecked up.

Fabio is not his fault.

Hopefully Moyes goes like for like and opts for Fabio rather than Jones or Smalling.

At worst maybe Valencia who is looking a lot more solid.

Would be surprised if he makes the Arsenal game. You can usually guarantee around 2 weeks when a player rolls their ankle like he did.

I'm hoping for Valencia since Fabio seems frozen out at the moment. Rafael's going to be a huge miss if Moyes goes for Smalling as his replacement.

Our right back Rafa, small and quick.
Make oppo players look a dick.
I miss you when you are not there,
Your cheeky smile, your soul-glo hair.
We look a different proposition,
When youre in the right back position.
Get well soon, no more delay.
Make us champions again, come May. Ole!

As good as Smalling has defended at right back, we need Rafael back asap. He gives the team so much more balance and we look a far better team with him.

Smalling was fine against a team who would likely have more of the ball than us but we've got Cardiff up next. Think he should be back for that match though.

I think many don't recognise how good a defender Rafael is. Ok, Jones and Smalling have height and look like more traditional defenders and Rafael is a attacking fullback but he is extremely solid and has improved so much at the defensive side of the game.

He's solid defensively. Rarely do you see him get beat by a winger. His aggressive style in defending wingers is actually amazing. It looks risky but he gets it done.

Then there's his ability to score a screamer, his pace and dribbling ability. Monster player.

Agreed, my fellow collar. Because he is a short, attacking Brasilian who was sent off vs Ribery (in a game where he had Ribery in his pocket for the entire time prior to the card) in 09/10 & made the mistake against Mexico, people assume he is not solid defensively. This criticism comes from the same people who didn't realize that Evra (who has been the best full-back of his generation in the PL, alongside Ashley Cole) is not actually very good defensively (bar 07/08 and 08/09, where he played out of his skin) until his form started to drop in the last 3 years - Rafael is already a better defender (not saying he is better than Evra on the whole, of course) than Evra, both in the one on one and in general.

Not slating Evra - one of my favourite players - but simply using him as an example. Since the beginning of the 11/12 season, Rafael has been consistent in his outperforming of all other full-backs in terms of defensive quality ever since we've had to do without the Evra of old, the Wes Brown of 07/08 (who offered nothing going forward) and the days of Gary Neville. He's a brilliant defender because of his tenacity, workrate and deceptive intelligence - he isn't as much of a headless chicken as people think. He will only get better.

Is Rafael going to be back for the Cardiff game? I really miss having him in the team. I'm sure he feels he hasn't had a proper chance to show Moyes how good he is yet too.

Moyes starts him whenever he is fully fit, I imagine Moyes know's what he is capable of, just frustrated that he can't play him!

Hopefully he keeps his fitness for the rest of the season, he's getting closer and closer to being an undisputed top class right back.

That's not quite fair; his peach of a cross led to our goal in the Champions League final!
