Radamel Falcao Garcia

Raphael Honigstein said on Press Pass last night that his "sources" lead him to believe a January move is very unlikely, but Chelsea and Real Madrid are making big moves for a deal in the summer. He expects to see Falcao playing in the Real white next season instead of Chelsea blue, but obviously the inter-city politics are a factor. Let's hope he's right, I don't want him at Chelsea or City ever, never mind in January :nervous:

Pretty much no chance of him going to Madrid. Aguero wanted to go there too but Atletico wouldnt have it. It'll be the same situation

The longer Falcao stays at Atletico the better for the health of La Liga. The top-level quality outside the big two has already taken such a hit in recent years through the loss of Villa, Silva, Alba, Mata, Cazorla and Martinez.

Add Aguero to the list, even though he probably got replaced by a superior player in Falcao. Llorente will also leave Athletic at the end of season at best as his deal is about to expire and he's unlikely to sign a new one.

Well Falcao staying won't save the league though it will only postpone the inevitable.

La Liga is going to keep declining if Barca and Real aren't willing to give away some bigger piece of tv money pie.

Chelsea are definitely in for him, so if his liking for them is real he'll almost certainly join them, the question is when?

I think Summer unless they cough up extra £15m or so to land him in an inconvenient time for Atletico, January. He could be the difference between winning the league and coming 3rd for Chelsea and Atletico will want to finish in the top 3.

If I'm not mistaken, he hasn't played a single game for Atletico in Europa League this season, which makes him eligible for CL.

Just a thought.

Jesus, that's certainly ominous.

Wow! I hadn't paid any attention to that. This makes the January sale more imminent.

Damn! Looks like he would be a Chelsea player with Torres most likely going the other way.

Indeed. Its like the (previous) Old Firm. Only with better weather.

It's a real shame for Spanish football, regardless of whether he goes in January (unlikely, I think) or the summer. If Atletico could keep him for just one more season it would make a real difference in la Liga.

What is the difference its going to make?

Selling him would be better financially for a Athletico, a club in debt. They have literally no chance to winning LaLiga ahead of the big two. They can keep themselves in the same position in the league and do better financially if they can get money from his sale and Torres in exchange.

Like many in la Liga, until something big changes, they are always going to be in or near some serious debt. Selling players only ever postpones that, it doesn't change it. The only thing that can change it is success on the pitch. Right now, there's nothing to say that Atletico can't keep their position and come second at the end of the year. That would be a massive achievement. If they swap Falcao for Torres, that simply won't happen. There is just no way Torres is going to be able to sustain the ridiculous scoring record that Falcao has right now.

Imagine they keep Falcao this year and next, and manage to come second twice in a row. That would give them some leeway when the TV deal is next renegotiated, and they ought to get a big bump. That would genuinely change things.

Yes, it's all quite far-fetched. It's an outside hope. But selling players is proven to make no difference whatsoever, because it's what that second tier of Liga clubs have been forced to do for years now, and look where it's landed them all. It ensures that they never get the success required to actually change things, and the money only ever delays financial problems.

Unfortunately it's probably not going to make any difference. Atletico is miles off the top two and it will make La Liga worse as much as Suarez leaving Liverpool would make the PL worse. The harm to the league has been done ages ago (La Liga, that is).

I'm more keen to see him move (even if I dislike Real). Falcao is the best footballer I've seen to grace my club, and if there's one thing I don't want hanging over his career is a "what could have been"? If he's not playing for us, I want him at the top teams, playing for the top titles. Champions League every year (it's his 3rd consecutive season in the Europa League). Competing for places with the best.

When he left, I knew Atletico wasn't good enough for him. They're not even better than Porto, it was a backwards move for him if we keep the financial side out of the equation.

Fair points. It does seem a shame that a players' exploits are only valid these days if he's at a big team and playing for big trophies. It's one of the big problems of the player centralisation which the current financial shape of football is causing.

But you're right, it's the way things are. Gone are the days when a player like Maradona could almost single-handedly lead a team like Napoli to repeated league wins.

I've wanted him here for two years. I'll be crushed if Chelsea get him, but moreso if City do. He'll be an upgrade for both teams.

He studied English a few years back when he was still with Porto because he wanted to end up in the EPL.

It seems very obvious to me that he's going to Chelsea. I expected in the summer, but I suppose Abramovich was keen to give Torres a chance out of Drogba's shadow to see if he could really do it. Now that it's been shown he can't, they'll get Falcao in for the role. Terrifying.

Or because they have a piss easy group and want to focus on the league. Like most big sides in the Europa league.

Well, you may be right, but he wasn't even on the bench for any of those games. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone in January for a huge fee.

Whether Falcao plays in the Europa League or not is irrelevant, because you are allowed to register one player for the Champions League that has played in the Europa League. Real Madrid had the same situation awhile back, and had to chose whether to register Huntelaar or Lass Diarra.

Not really. Once upon a time you'd have said the same thing about the prospect of Torres moving to Chelsea, but now look. Signing Falcao for the massive amounts of money that it will likely take is a bit of a gamble in my opinion. I think his move to Athletico has made it hard for anyone to get good value now, unless they can negotiate a reasonable fee somehow.

That's wishful thinking. You can't compare the Falcao transfer with the Torres one because Torres was already in decline. He wasn't at the top of his game which Falcao undeniably is.

Torres had just got back from months out due to a knee injury before having a poor personal showing at the World Cup and then his form didn't pick up when he was back at Liverpool. He hadn't been the same player for about 8 months before Chelsea signed him. Nothing like that going on with Falcao.

Falcao is hardly the same case as Torres, who had already played poorly for a season and a half at Liverpool before he went to Chelsea.

Falcao is easily in the top 3 strikers in the world right now imo with RVP and Zlatan. You are right about getting good value for him after the move to Athletico, but Chelsea arent exactly known for caring about value as long as it means they get good players and big names.

Chelsea could definitely get value IMO, if they got him for £40-45m it would be a great transfer. He's still only 26.

Chelsea with their typical transfer window attempt at buying the league. It would make winning the league even sweeter if we beat the two moneybags to the title this year.

Would Falcao and Torres work in their line up? Maybe they should make Bruno part of the deal and send him back home.

Definitely not. They'd be "competing" for the same place but I think at this point the only one who wouldnt be happy with that at Chelsea is Torres. Even Abramovic is probably fed up with him by now

Not going to happen. Atletico wont pay anywhere near the amount he's on at Chelsea. His performances don't deserve mega wages.

Its that or he rots in the bench, Torres is half the player is falcao is these days.

So what would you call Robin van Persie then?
