Race for top 4 | Finito.

My opinion is that we will end third, Liverpool fourth, with Newcastle badly underperforming, losing either Brighton or Chelsea game and drawing the other one.

Not sure why anyone thought Liverpool would drop points tonight.

We have three very tough games ahead - at this point I'd make Liverpool slight favourites ahead of us.

Villa are a better side than anyone we've left to face. Bournemouth potentially the biggest banana skin given our away from. Should be beating Fulham and Chelsea at home.

Newcastle definitely don't want to be going into the last game against Chelsea away needing a win though. As long as they don't lose to Brighton they should be fine as they'll beat Leicester at home, and they'll only need a draw on the last day against Chelsea.

2 draws and 1 win won't be enough for Newcastle if we win 2 games and Liverpool win their 3.

I think the Chelsea game will be much harder than most fans expect. They are having an awful season but if they park the bus and aim to frustrate us, they have the quality to get at least a point rather easily.

If Lampard is stupid enough to go gung ho with a high line then great - but I think even he's cleverer than that.

Posters saying "we're not good enough for the Champions League anyway" are missing the point.

I don't think any United fan seriously thinks we're going to remotely challenge for the CL next season. But we badly need to strengthen the squad, and if we're Europa League again we're going to be behind Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool in attracting the players we want (unless we offer them stupid money which of course is usually the case with us).

If Utd and Liverpool win on Saturday, that really will crank up the pressure on Newcastle who don’t play until 48 hours later on Monday. They would drop out of the top 4 for the weekend.

This. The whole point of getting a UCL spot is so we can strengthen and attract players who will help us challenge. We’re not hoping for top 4 because we believe we can win the UCL next season.

2 draws and 1 win won't be enough for Newcastle if we win 2 games and Liverpool win their 3.
1 win and 2 draws for Newcastle would put them level on points with Liverpool, so it would go down to goal difference. Newcastle have a GD advantage at the moment that they'll probably hold onto providing they beat Leicester convincingly, though it's possible Liverpool catch their goal difference.

Depends on the margin of the win, they still have 4 goals on Liverpool so if they smash Leicester for 4 or 5 which is entirely doable then they can afford draws with Brighton and Chelsea. Unlikely for Liverpool to make up a +8/9 GD with their last 2 in that scenario.

This weekend would clear up the situation a lot.

Inter are about to play in CL final. If we have a good summer we should have a better team than this Inter side. Cup competitions all depend on the draw.

We desperately need CL for our transfer budget as well as actually attracting the signings.

Expect Antony to mess up 4 clear chances every game with his low IQ decision making, keeping up the pressure on the team.

Garnacho is my only hope for the front three to score.

We don’t know if Rashford is back anytime soon, that may impact our goals scoring.

This was always the case after the Spurs draw. United has no spine to fight it out.i thought that was a case of last season. This season we have shown what amateurs we are. Just need to fecking get though to the top4.

Honestly Garnacho is probably our best winger on form. Even if you don't take his age into account, he's more dangerous than Antony and Sancho have ever been for us.

They actually play against Brighton on Thursday before their game on Monday.

I think any extra pressure of playing after Liverpool/United will be offset by the fact they're playing Leicester at home, they're absolutely dreadful and you have to assume Newcastle win that 9 times out of 10.

Newcastle's chances depend on the Brighton game on Thursday, they can't afford to lose that. If they lose they'll be in a very uncomfortable situation going into Chelsea away needing a win.

You are right Newcastle can't afford to lose against Brighton on Thursday it could make things very difficult for them .

Will we bottle this? I hope not. Will be gut-wrenching given that we've occupied Top 4 for much of the season.

With Bournmouth confirmed safe, hopefully they switch off and we win comfortably.
Hopefully. Sometimes it can free teams to play better stress free. Bournmouth is a colossal game for us as Chelsea in any form / situation can be tricky.

Imo he isn't. So far he's looked great only as a sub. And quite meh as a starter. Anyway agree he's been better than Sancho. But that doesn't tell much. Sancho is basically a ghost.

"decide" is doing some heavy lifting there. Your players will be around the pitch but that's about it
Oof cut real deep  one can hope we might turn up for one of our last 3 games.. though it’ll probably be 3 L’s:lol:

I think we beat Bournemouth away and we wrap top 4. It will be between Newcastle and Pool. Pool vs Villa is as much a banana skin as Newcastle vs Brighton. And Newcastle still have the edge with a game in hand.

True that, we're fekin shambles. I'd say there's a 70 percent chance we wont make top 4.

Anyone else torn on what we want to happen with Brighton vs Newcastle?

Brighton win and it looks likely that if anyone were to drop out of top 4 it would be Newcastle. A Newcastle win however would mean it’s less likely Liverpool get top 4 but places United in a slightly more precarious position.

United getting in is the priority. Next is Liverpool not.

Yep, we also have a pretty poor recent record against Cheslea.
The last time we beat them was in 2020, and every match since then has resulted in a draw.

Yep. Anyone rooting for Newcastle in the last few weeks is a weirdo. The more points they drop, the more likely we are to qualify for the CL and that's what matters.

To be honest I think a decent run in, winning all games would help with the cup final, at least building some momentum and positivity. Whether that happens or not I can't predict. As I've said before Fulham worries me most because of what happened in the semi-final game and Mitrovic being back, they'll have a chip on their shoulder.

This pretty much, though I don't care about the other teams, I just want Utd to sort their end of the business out.

Quite right. It is in United hands to win their remaining games because you can be sure Liverpool will.

We've had a tendancy to crumble in previous seasons when chasing top 4.

It'll be refreshing to see these players show some resilience, keep Liverpool at arm's length and get the job done - which I think we'll do.

We play 3 teams that have nothing left to play for. They can't get relegated and they can't get European football (not even the Conference League). If we can't get 2 wins from that then it's a failure for sure.

Villa might get something from Liverpool this weekend though. They can still get both EL and Conference.

I think Newcastle will drop points too. Brighton are tough and Leicester are fighting for survival.
