Queen Elizabeth II | 1926-2022 | Rest in Peace

Whilst I have a personal respect for Queen Elizabeth II & the time she served as Queen, this procession is everything that is wrong with this country and the system of hierarchical Monarchy; the people of the country who she supposedly served are held back and kept out of proceedings via police, as branch of the State that she was the head of, whilst only the ‘elites’ and those who served her are allowed access.

There is no greater, or more stark a visualisation, of the class system in the country, as strong now as it was centuries ago.

Not being funny but it's not "everything" wrong with this country.

There are a lot of things wrong with this country.

whilst i kind of agree, if you let commoners and poor people in, they would just be smoking or having another baby during the ceremony.

I would argue that this is a representation of the system that generates all other problems in the country; the view that only a select few matter and the rest can go chasing around for scraps.

‘The rich man at his castle,
The poor man at his gate.
God made them high and lowly
And ordered their estate’

Some of those blokes carrying the coffin really look like they're about to pass out. For their sakes, I hope they get to lay it down soon!

Edit:
Phew!

pallbearers sweating like andrew in a comprehensive.

aye. can’t describe the feeling of relief you get when you place it down and know you don’t have to carry it again or risk dropping it. it’s even harder when the family are chasing you and shouting at you to come back.

Doesn't help with a crap load of stolen gear balanced on top.

Meghan's there processing disrespectfully.

Certainly not all. We have many of the same problems that France and the US have. Republics.

I take it you've already got your invite for Bobby Charlton's funeral? Or will you be lining the route, being held back by Police?

People like you think you're so fecking clever with your bollocks ideas. The venue for the service only has a certain capacity, so only the most important people can attend in person.

Whether it's the Queen, Bobby Charlton, or your Dad, you're only going to let the most important people into the service.

The dropping of the paper behind the coffin did it for me, they have to start again.

Beatrice isn't wearing her ceremonial antlers. How disrespectful.

Wow! A bit of venom there. I don’t think I’m especially smart at all, I just don’t value all of this pomp and circumstance, especially given current issues in the country. It’s not about the venue capacity or anything like that, and I think you know that.

For my dad's funeral we sent an open invite and anyone who wanted to come was welcomed.

For Sir Bobby, yeah I’ll be upset (arguably more upset than from this passing) but I wouldn’t take time out to line a pathway or make a vigil. I also wouldn’t queue for days to catch a passing glimpse of his coffin.

I acknowledge that all state funerals are pageants, but you surely have to see the clear divide between the haves and have nots.

Yes let’s just let any Tom Dick n Harry into the queen’s funeral. I’m sure everything will be fine in doing that…nothing would go wrong right?

Some people..

Hoping we see that guy in the choir again who last time looked like he was on something

Such a ridiculous show of nonsensical traditions. The state of these lot parading around dressed in the most bizarre uniforms carrying swords. It’s all so fecking weird and frustrating to know that I pay towards it.
Totally disagree, I think she is worth every second and every penny spent, but we all have our own views and this is yours.

Alright Liz. Stop boasting about how your rich your Dad is. Not the time or place.

The title of the thread...

Great to see Liz Truss giving a reading, purely because you know how much Johnson would have LOVED to be the centre of attention here.

Surely that’s the case in literally every country in the world, regardless of system? It’s a head of state dying. There’s shit loads obviously wrong with the country but this isn’t it and changing it won’t make a difference to the priorities of those in government.

That’s the first thing that came to mind, he will be seething in his seat

Hopefully Casemiro Eriksen finally start the game as a midfield two even though its hard on McT who's been superb so far this season.

mctominay just hiding behind the coffin, not making himself available.

I had to carry my Grandad in and then back out. In was ok as I was feet end, but out was head and it felt 10x as heavy. It looked tough on these lads.

As I’ve mentioned before it is a visualisation of the system of the country. Yes it may be similar to other countries, look at the people who’ve already said “Nobody does this like the British”, whilst kids go hungry up and down the country that she ‘served’.

Why is the ref talking? Let them get on with the game

Think thats a bit unfair mate. If hes hiding behind the coffin its because ETH has told him to play that role (CBH-coffin behind hider) and to be honest he’s been great at it in the past. Just feel its finally time for us to see the Casemiro/Eriksen dynamic play out.
