Yeah, the PC gamepass is steaming.

Decent selection of games when/if it actually works. Worth it for SoT alone. But boy do you know about it when something decides to corrupt, and it 100% will whether you know it or not.

I've long since cancelled, but would get it again if they make it bearable one day. Not holding my breath though.

We can all agree that xbox controller is far better than the PlayStation can't we?

Does the ps4 not have anything similar to game pass?
No point even bothering mate
This is just the thread for finding ways to justify the PS5.

@Redlambs do you think the ps5 SSD will be something only 1st party Devs can use properly? Third party Devs held back by the Xbox and even more so by the PC(s with HDD)?

Do you think the Xbox will have the better versions of third party games just through shear horse power alone?

Yes, if you have the streaming capability... I don't have 4k TV. If you do then maybe just download the app and sub?
The problem with that is

A) someone might already have a nice TV
B) Tvs often cost more than consoles so it's not cheaper unless you want to buy a tv anyway
C) apps on TVs are often only used as a selling point and are quickly retired leaving only the TV.

How about the Xbox one S digital edition which is showing up for £99

That works too...

I preferred Xbox controllers of the DS3 but I think the DS4 is great, can’t have any complaints. Both great controllers mind.

PS4 has PSNow which is a streaming service (though I think you can download certain games), though I’ve never used it personally so don’t know how well it works. Good selection of games though.

PS Now works really well if;

a) you are playing on PS4
- and want to play a PS4 game (you can download)
- and want to play a PS2 game (you can download)
or b) have a fast internet connection, live close to wherever Sony's servers are, and are playing at a quiet time and are happy with 720 P

Well yeah, I think it's safe to say at the moment that specific benefits of the PS5 speed will largely be tied to first party games. If we look at something obvious, say GTA6 and the level streaming in terms of design and how much further they can push the borders, they won't likely do a specific version for the PS5. The PC, as always is an outlier, because issues with HDD could be taken up with more video/system memory for example. I'd imagine in that area we will see more and more games recommend ssd and some may only eventually work if you have a decent one. It's worth also bearing in mind that Sony do want to do more PC conversions, so it'll be interesting if that affects any of their 1st party games too. Of course though, it all comes down to how creative people will be with this, more often than not I think it'll just be about more open levels and easier for the developer to level design with less restrictions to think about.

It's, as always, the same the other way with the power. They won't have the Xbox version blatantly better, it'll be more in frame stability in cross platform. Also we do need to remember that the Xbox still has an SSD, which isn't some drastically slower than the PS5 archaic thing, it just depends more on how they handle the I/O bottlenecks and what sort of tricks developers will come up with.

I think people are going to be a little confused with this gen at first, they won't notice where the graphics leap actually is. As I've said, the standout games that showed off most without even looking like it, were Ratchet and the little devil inside game. We certainly won't be getting 4k & 60fps games that look drastically better to the casual, not for a while yet anyway.

I'm looking forward to trying out 4k gaming for the first time. I've been gaming on an Xbox One S for years!

Although, saying that I've found out that I'm a hard man to please. I bought a Oled last year after hearing great things about HDR, but I can't notice it all. I don't get it. Seems to be some marketing scam or something.

Saying that, though, I shrugged when I first saw the leap to HD, so I don't expect 4k to impress much. Give me 60fps!

I don't understand this comment. What's so weird about people wanting a PS5?
Nothing at all. But looking at this thread you’d think it was the better console from what we've seen

What is ‘better’? I know very little about what’s in either of the consoles, and I’m not that interested either. I buy my console to play games and PlayStation has always had the better exclusives. I think that is what it comes down to for most people. May change in the future with MS acquiring more studios but I doubt it. A decade ago Live was light years ahead of PSN but I’d say they’re both on par, can’t remember the last time I had any issues with PSN (though crap download speeds remains a bit of an issue, though I always leave my PS4 in rest mode so it does it through the night).

Different people have different preferences. This might shock you but for a lot of people, the thing they like most in a console is the games they can play on it. To date, PlayStation has many more first party games that interest me personally compared to Xbox.

Easiest way to "justify" the PS5 (whatever the hell that means) is that it has games we like.

The big thing for me is Xbox Game Pass. I used to buy loads of random second hand games for dirt cheap on the old school consoles. The only game I've bought since owning the Xbox X is Modern Warfare. Game Pass has had GTA V, RDR2, Gears of War 5 (does anything come close to Gears online? Blows COD out of the fecking water), Halo 5, then loads of games I wouldn't usually play like Subnautica, Hello Neighbour, Untitled Goose Game, We Lucky Few, Banjo-Kazooie, Alan Wake, Yakuza 0, Panza Dragoon Orta(!) etc. A feck load of games from all generations. Game changer!

Yeah but Damo one has more gigahertz than the other and we know consoles are basically top trumps.

The Xbox thingy might be more powerful but that won't matter since Naught God games will look better than anything else on either console.

Is this the right way to do this whole console wars thing? It's been a few years since I tried.

I'd say the Xbox is great if you don't have a PC and enjoy single player games.

The PS is better if you do - because you get great games you don't get on PC.

After that it probably just comes down to which UI you prefer or which online service most of yours mates play on.

Gamepass is fecking amazing though, if I didn't have a PC I'd get an Xbox just for that, even if I had a PS already.

I also think there's a lot to be said for how well built Sony consoles are. I've had every generation of PS and every single one of them would still work if I turned them on.

Xbox x has by far the best design from a console current gen. Not only that it is incredibly quiet, which I cannot say for any of the PlayStation models.

I mean I look at the TV when I play, it could look like a pile of shit getting fisted for all I care.

Design ≠ longevity. I concur with Spanner on that front. My 360 had RROD but personally had no such issues with any of my PlayStations.

People in here are talking about what we've seen in terms of gameplay so far. Some of the PS5 presentation looked really impressive while we've yet to see any meaningful Series X gameplay. Series X's superior CPU and GPU horsepower doesn't mean anything until we see actual games putting it to good use.

As someone that is into VR it's not even a contest to me anyway.... So I'll be sidestepping the warring this time.

Or will I?

PS3 had massive YLOD problems. Was even on watchdog a few times over it. Don’t know many people with the big fat launch PS3 that survived. My one died twice. Just the RROD was worse. But YLOD would be second worst in terms of console failure rates after it. Also don’t get me started on PS4 controllers. I think I been through 3 or 4 this gen.

Also @Massive Spanner when you have to open a console to put thermal paste, so that it helps being quiet then yeah we are talking about the design of the console. I even bought the latest Pro revisions and they were still loud. Hopefully Sony and by the looks of it have improved that for the PS5.

I know, different people have different experiences. Personally I still have my launch PS3 and I had to replace my launch PS4 controller last year due to drift, which isn't too bad after six years of frequent use. Other than that one incident my launch controllers and consoles have been fine.

@Weaste... The PS5 doesn't have the new Xbox's diagonal graphic rotational ability nor does it have Halo.

Xbox clear winner.

Frankly they both look great.

Got my PS4 at launch and only yesterday the sticker on the back of the controller started coming off. Now there's a sticky patch I keep getting on me but it lasted a solid amount of time before I had even the slightest issue.

Yeah my original PS3 got the YLOD, I still have it upstairs but haven't tried turning it on in years. The YLOD was nowhere near as bad as the RROD on the 360 however, I think at one point failure rates for the 360 were around 54%, which is just insane. Got a 360 for Xmas, co-oped Gears of War with my bro in a day and then on Boxing Day I had RROD. Good times.

We don't need to know your wanking habits Sol
