Protest at Old Trafford

I would think marching in Manchester with thousands of people protesting the Glazers would do more than today. But, I for sure understand what the supporters did today, I just hope some good comes out if it.
Yes,
a massive crowd doing a peaceful protest march through Manchester would have been a far more palatable effort. With respect to some good coming from todays efforts, well thats already happened. Its a main topic among football fans all over the world. Lots of debate over it. That in itself is a huge amount of good to have come from it.

Im obviously annoyed the game was cancelled, i was really looking forward to it after Thursday night. In the grand scheme of things, this was the perfect time for this to happen, it is the biggest game in English football and was called off because we despise the owners. Apart from the fans who cause physical violence to others, I am fully behind this. How we are run as a club, respected as fans by the owners and the respect we give to football all overrides any game. Give us a 10 point reduction, relegate us, i dont care. These owners need to go, let us be. They have stolen our money, our pride and our status in the football world. Manchester United is and will always be bigger than them.

How would disrupting the streets of manchester city centre effect the Glazers? People outside the UK wouldnt care

United have invested adequately for a club of its stature. The reason for our decline is 3 successive poor managers and 3 successive conflicting and wrong recruitment strategies. There was no clear vision or direction the club was taking post-Ferguson. Things seem like they are slowly changing under Solskjaer. To me this seems like the fault of whoever is/was in an executive position (Woodward) rather than the owners, who have interfered minimally.

Things could truly be a lot worse.

This will go down as a great day in the history of the club.

I'd be interested to learn how many people got hurt before the police started to force people away from the protest
. I don't mean the ones who removed people from the stadium, but the lines of officers in riot gear we saw in videos, who started pushing crowds away from where they were gathered outside.

I've never once seen those tactics employed on protests without things ending violently. That said, I'm sure 99% of police officers out there were just doing their job to the best of their ability, and just like the 99% of fans who did a great job protesting, we shouldn't let the 1% wrong 'uns dictate the story of the day.

Irrelevant. I really don't see the point in trying to frame the blame elsewhere. What's happened, happened. Whoever did what just condemn the violence as no one wants to see anyone get hurt.

Who do you think put Eddie in charge of United and left him in that position for 8 years? How are people so blind to something so obvious?

They've kept us ticking but we're in an obvious decline and in another 10 years, it'll be worse, not better.

Frankly completely pointless protests. Imagine spending an afternoon out protesting. Oh what were you protesting? Ownership of a football club!
Do folks not have anything better to do with their time? Absolutely nothing is going to change. This will be forgotten soon enough when the club starts winning games.

And as a side, I think liverpool should be awarded the points as punishment. There should be some sort of punishment right? If the roles were reversed, i'm sure some on here would be clamoring for it.

A resoundingly brilliant protest save for 1 or two instances.

The kick off had a great discussion on it

We Decide when you play is a powerful image for sure

We just want what's best for the club. The glazers are an absolute disgrace and should be fought in all means possible.

That's true and a very valid point. But I see so many fans critcising a lack of investment, which is patently untrue. We've spent a huge amount of money over the past decade, the bulk of it has just been spent on a disastrous clash of transfer strategies and ideologies.

Your point about 'investment' is completely wrong but I've addressed that in a lot of my posts today and feel tired repeating it.

In short, it's the club's money that constitutes this partial 'investment'. They've taken a lot more in repaying debt they've saddled us with and dividends for yachts and palaces.

United have spent United's money while continuing to be saddled by Glazer's debt.

Looking at the fixtures for both teams from now until the end of the season including the Europa League final. Monday (today) looks like the only feasible time to reschedule this match.

That people still don't seem to understand this is pretty wild - thinking all the money comes from the Glazer's pockets.

Yet any new owners will have to pay vastly more for the club than Malcolm did, so the fans will resent them for wanting a return on said investment?

Who is “we”?

I'm not sure what point you're making? Should fans be grateful the club has been allowed to spend some of its own generated money? It would have even more spending power if it wasn't being shackled by the debt and interest payments brought upon it by the owners. Owners who make money each and every year by taking out and putting in to their personal accounts.

May Allah bless everyone that came out to the protest today.

Sick of these parasites.

All the people focusing on the minute minority causing trouble expose themselves through their language.

If you claim to support and love something that gets violated, and your first concern in a mostly peaceful protest is what a few excited dickheads did, I question your priorities.

You're comfortable with the status quo cos it doesn't hurt you, so you want to shit on the people that want to change something they very clearly see is unacceptable.

Ban them all.

I'm absolutely thrilled with the reaction of most on RedCafe and absolutely disgusted by the reaction of others. So pleased to see our fans making our voices heard.

We’ve spent our own money, part of what’s left once you deduct their dividends and the massive debt they’ve saddled us with. We shouldn’t thank them for that.

It’s like your bank manager rocking up at your house, buying it and placing the debt on you whilst they help themselves to your income, then when they let you use some of what’s left to get essentials your supposed to act grateful.

Incredible scenes yday. Didn’t make it on to the pitch myself but all the people who came spilling back out fecking cracked me up - saw some pictures on their phones when they were in the crowd. Guys with match balls, corner flags, lumps of grass in their hands hahahah

Great day executed perfectly. I love this club

99% of those in attendance today are generational United fans who fill terraces up and down the land - and further afield - wherever and whenever United play. Yet we have bleeding hearts here condemning their actions, the same people who have never set foot in Manchester before, let alone the ground. Go figure.

We have the best supporters in Britain, bar none. If any fanbase can eradicate a parasite, it’s ours. Well in, lads.

“Fans” who do not support the protests today do not understand the battle at stake. We are trying to get our club back, It’s the end not the
Utterly pathetic behavior, shades of angry republicans entering Congress. If we needed proof why governments around the world imposed strict rules during the pandemic, look at Liverpool, Glasgow and Manchester after each episode over the last year. It’s just football, there are other ways to make a point, this is just people needing to break the law.

It’s just football? Football is a way of life. A true fan would understand that. We breathe football and want our club back. Bigger picture this was definitely the right move.

There much coverage in the states about this?

Would be nice for their leaching ways to be highlighted over there, if nothing more than to embarrass them on the golf course in front of their business buds.
It was on ESPN, our main sports channel. But people here don’t really get it. While we’re very passionate about sports, the main purpose for sports owners is to make a profit. The only other reason is for ego/status, say like a Jerry Jones.

Glazers won’t be embarrassed at all, if anything they’d more likely be receiving sympathy from their “business buds”.

This whole poor players and Ole, they didnt do anything to deserve this today/yesterday nonsense, just shut the feck up, this whole thing aint about them, has nothing to do with them and is way bigger than them. Go eat up shit served by United PR machine how players cant leave hotel next 2 weeks because they are scared for their safety like they were the target. You are just pissed that you couldnt consume a product served by Sky Sports, thats why they pissed too, media whose interest is in danger gonna try and paint everyone as that tripod guy.

Imagine if we were in Arsenal position and fans pull this on return leg of EL game, game gets cancelled and oppo teams goes back with 3:0 win, certain portion of so called fans would flip out because cnut owners + CL next season > anything else. This thread is good indicator of how things stand in footballing world not just when it comes to Manchester United.

Have others spent nothing during that time? They bought into success. Sir Alex went a number of years without buying a midfielder. We made statement signings too late. The club had lost the ambition to improve the first 11 and we were left with average squad players for long periods to make up the numbers. There was a lot wrong but look we never got the players LVG wanted. We never backed Jose when he wanted a defender. Ole was obvious as he was a fans fave but also would promote youth further which helps spend less so has appeal to greedy owners.

please check this out. ESPN in USA, their guy was starting to defend United fans and speak truth about glazers and was taken down OH SO FAST

Americans do love their billionaires. Free speech indeed.

I have the rough impression this protest was relatively short and sweet? They got in, made their point and left?
Is that accurate ?
It was done at OT by 4:30ish yeah. Stormed the barriers and a few got into the ground obviously but it did die down quickly because police got their batons out. Would not say it was peaceful protests today, to be fair, but feck it

About 5:00, it shows the moment when the police change from watching to aggressively pushing protesters back and hitting some with batons. I assume this was part of a coordinated effort to push the protests back, but it resulted in lots of confrontations that weren't happening immediately before the push.

It seems like both United and GMP failed to prepare for the protests. Some of the scenes of fighting between police and protesters were in a section where police were separated and cornered with no way to retreat or exit.

Should've been done long, long time ago. Like I always say that clubs like Real Madrid/Barcelona/Bayern would never allow their teams to get treated like that by their owners, this is what I mean.

Shame it happens now when we play our best football post Fergie. Ole and the players don't deserve to get caught in that shitstorm. Should have happened long time ago during the LVG days.

Facts:

- The majority of the thousands of peaceful protesters outside were 100% justified and are role model supporters of the club.
- Couple of hundred that breached the gates and got on the pitch / vandalized things / threw bottles / attacked police were clearly breaking the laws.
- In large protests, there is always a minority group that will engage in violence, it is unfortunate but common occurrence. Honestly as ugly as it was - could have been MUCH WORSE.
- Manchester Police had to predict that a large protest could get violent and extra security was required for Old Trafford. It is their job and they should have mobilized sufficient force to have prevented the breach. I am sorry for all of the injured officers. However, the leadership of the police and of the security forces are accountable for what happened, in not stopping it and only reacting to it.
- I am sorry it disrupted the game and sorry for the players who were ready to go and didn't get to play the game

The fact that the United management (non-football side) did not even see this coming reveals everything about the degree to which the fans are present in this consciousness (not at all). And for that fact alone, this is all worth it.

Wake up and smell the coffee, fellas. There's more coming.
