Pro Evolution Soccer 2012

So, anybody get this game then? was released yesterday i believe.

Although ive been playing Fifa the past couple of years, i always have a soft spot for Pro Evo and want the franchise to do well.

im going to get it this morning, will post first impressions later. first time in years i have bought PES before considering FIFA

Used to love pro evo when it was at it's best.

But I'm really liking FIFA 12 so I think ill get PES 12 when I'm tired of it and need a change.

Turned out to be pretty hard to get this, managed to eventually get it in gamestation they only had 5 left and they had received an order this morning of 25, the guy said they were selling like hot cakes

Already bored of Fifa12 after a week, so I'll probably pick this up next week. That said, I'd sort of rather get the new Batman game. And that says a lot about the current football games that I'd rather do that, since they were virtually the only thing I ever played consoles for.

Was playing it a bit this morning whilst wating for the rugby to come on (yep, I'm a chump).

Pleasantly surprised how it compares to the demo...but, still very similar to last year.

Some things that seem immediately wrong:
- Squads are hopelessly out of date as usual. Cleverley doesn't seem to exist, despite the fact Welbeck does?
- Old Trafford appears to be full of people wearing yellow Sunderland shirts? Also, why does Pro Evo these days always look like someone's taken a real football game and toned down all the colours? Is there a logical reason for this?
- First goal scored against me was a 40 yard free kick where the player just side footed it at about 90mph into the absolute top corner of the goal. I don't think this is even scientifically possible in real life.
- Is there anyway to stop the player names appearing above the cpu controlled team's heads? Also, why has this even happened again when they already had to bring out a patch to remove it in last years game?

I should have waited until they brought out that patch they have to bring out every year to fix all the stupid things they got wrong, to be fair, but on the other hand, when it comes to stuff they already needed to fix last year, it shouldn't be that hard to just not get it wrong in the first place.

One thing I do like is the AI you're playing against is actually based on intelligence and trying to simulate real football. Compared to Fifa where it's just based on exploiting the gameplay flaws that no one will admit exists. Keepers are definitely less retarded this time...remains to be seen exactly how much so.

You're not going to like the Batman. You're starting to hate everything very slowly.

have you downloaded the data pack in the extra content menu? if you do that you will get cleverly at united and all the other line ups that are not right will be fixed.

Please download the data pack as soon as the game loads up? It's been spoken of for weeks now and it has all the updated squads. Cleverley is surprisingly brilliant in the game.

so im quite liking this game so far, its good fun and flows very well however the only really annoying things for me so far and tbh its not a problem confined to PES because FIFA has it aswell is this fascination that football games have with players losing stamina after 2 or 3 games and asking to be rested, then you rest them for a cup game and they play another game and then ask to be rested again. also after the first game of the master league i had 3 players voicing discontent that they had not been picked regularly enough in the team, i dont know why games have this fascination with turning players into moany cnuts its pretty frustrating.

only played pes 6 and that's probably the last time I'll pick up any game from konami but the impression i have of this is quite positive. the free kick tutorial caught me by surprise. always be a FIFA lad though. Love the new one!

I've always been a PES lad, FIFA just doesn't compare IMO. Not as fluid, and the build up play seems to lag. Picked it up today and I've loved it. Last years was obviously a huge change in the gameplay but they've tweaked it ever so slightly to make it even better.

Little changes they may be, but subtle things like the more controlled dribbling (Ronaldo an Messi on last years game were almost too good to be able to control) and less accurate through balls make it a lot more challenging.

If you haven't got the latest data pack, its a must. Changes the whole tactical squad system.

Got this on Friday, enjoying it so far but haven't played it much yet. The gameplay is significantly different to last year's one in my opinion, I did think last year's was quite good but this is significantly different and it does seem like they've kept what was working and improved on a number of the problems.

There are a lot of minor changes that have been made which improve the game, but the gameplay engine itself has been altered also and it does make for a better and more fluent football experience. I also downloaded the WENB patch today which I also downloaded last year, seems like everything is set into place and they will update the patch regularly until it is fully complete. Seems like another good patch this year.

The goalkeeping seems a bit poor again this year however, that's one of the things I've noticed so far but overall it is an impressive game and certainly a considerable improvement this time.

Have they still got it set so attackers slow down the instant they get past a defender?

Anyone tried playing Barca on the hardest difficulty? My mate and I were doing a 2vCOMP earlier and tackling them was practically impossible, even going for a foul didn't work for us. Is there anything we're not doing right?

Not sure about two player but I always set out a very similar formation and play a high line, gives them less space between midfield and defence. Try doubling up , and not diving in at all. I've beaten them a few times..... but then I'm getting battered by Napoli every time

Think I prefer this to Fifa. It's not really an impressive leap forwards from last year at all, but at least the only change they've made isn't to add some rubbish new defending system which you then have to turn off anyway because it doesn't actually work.

I seem to be useless at everything other than passing the ball around like superman though.

We've taken to doubling up and backing off a bit, they can barely get a sniff in that respect now but even when they do, they quite literally just saunter in through the defence and have a crack. Also if Messi is on the pitch, you literally cannot allow them to have a free kick from about 25 yards out because it seems as though it's an auto-goal, I've managed to stop him scoring once and that was by sending Pepe (we've been playing as Madrid) to the line before he took it and headed it away. We've had better luck stopping penalties, so glad they changed the penalty system back from the last game because I couldn't do a thing with that.

They always seem to change the timing on heads and sweet spot for shot power, I still have to adapt to it myself.

I don't even seem to get as far as shooting or crossing for the most part. I swan up to the edge of the area with a flurry of Barcelona style swagger, then just sort of spin around in a circle for a bit and fall over. At this point the computer charges up the pitch at the speed of light while panic insues and I make a succession of failed last ditch tackles.

I've become Arsenal man.

Absolutely love this. Only down side is the players complaining in the master league constantly. If i could field 22 players every game i would but when you rotate the team once you have your most experienced players complaining about not getting a game, or complaining about not getting the number 10 shirt because they are "important"

hows it different compared to last year? Just curious

The Master League seems more manager orientated than just playing, it's rather annoying that you have to play as randomly generated players before you can play as the real team. I think they've over-complicated it to be honest but then I haven't given up on playing it on Top Player yet.

It's only 100 points for real players, so all you need to do is play 10 games.

Initially I thought it was a bit silly but realised it was not too big a deal.

Been enjoying this installment. Only got it about 2 weeks ago, but there are some geniuine imrpovements on the last installment.

I am also enjoying what I think is a smarter, tougher AI challenge. There passing in and around my penalty area is about 1000 times smarter and sharper then any previous installment.

I'd probably give it around a 8.5/10, which is the highest score since PES3 and PES4, IMHO!

Three questions (you've spoken about them but I wanted to know more specifically):

1) Does the AI pass it around a bit and play keep ball or always look for the most direct forward pass it can make? Because that's what happened in 2011 and it pissed me off a hell of a lot since it mean't that I kept the ball for 65 per cent of the game against Barcelona even if I took a mid table premier league side.

2) Is the player movement still laborious? Last around in trying to make you have to work for your goals they sort of turned the players into elephants that looked like players, who took hours to do the basic elements of the game.

3) Is the hardest level bloody hard? I hope it is.

This game hasn't been given the credit it deserves. I think it's fecking great. I just never have time to play it :(

Once you get out of Fifa mode and realise you can do what you want with the ball rather than stick to what the computer wants you to do, it really clicks. The passing and movement is fantastic. Defending is different too...it took a few spankings and thinking "well this is shit" before I got to grips with it. Still a lot of daftness to iron out but it's the best current gen PES by a long way...for me anyway.

I'm struggling on top player. Started a season with United. Just scraped through the CL group by beating Valencia away in my last game, and sitting just inside the CL places in the League...went out of the cup to QPR because I tried to beat them with my reserves. Trying to balance fatigue wth selecting a side it's possible to win the game with is a challenge...you have to accept playing people who are building up tiredness, and if you play someone like Rio at the weekend you've got no chance of him being anywhere near recovered for a game in the week...then if you have both him and Vidic out you leak chances for fun.

^ @amol (sorry bud, my quote function does not display at work PC)

1) the AI seems MUCH better at keeping the ball this time around, though I've only just played for a couple of days and I am yet to face Barca. For instance, I've started Master League and your coach briefs your about your opponents before each match. What I've found is that when he says a team loves playing a direct ball - they ACTUALLY tend to do just that versus a team who tries to do the quick passing game. I've been torn a new one, quite a few times with slick one touch passing and 1-2's by the AI.

2) though not perfect, I've found the movement of the players quite slick. The benefit is that they've fixed their crappy controller settings (semi-assisted, unassisted etc was a disaster in 11) and one is allowed THAT much more freedom of passing and movement. It does result in a few misplaced passes whilst you getting used to it, but often you will pull of a pass of beauty. And there's no better feeling then that.

3) First things first - they have made tackling much more difficult - so even in tight spaces, I have struggled to dispossess the AI. Secondly, some of the goals I've conceeded have been very well constructed by the AI. One tough passing, good finishing and movement etc. My buddy and I usually do a double team assault on the International Cup and we USUALLY win it on Top Player, just about every time. Over the weekend we played, we got out of our group (2 draws, 1 win against Syria) and were hammered 3-1 against the Germans.

So whilst it might not be BLOODY impossible for me, I am finding it a welcome challenge by the AI because simply put (and as you have stated) - they have been WELL below par for a FEW years now. My ultimate challenge is always Master League, with the default players though (on Top Player setting). Now that is BLOODY impossible!

@ Noods

Absolutely agree with you there. I've basically been buying PES on sympathy (and hope!) since the disaster that was PES'06, but this year (admittedly with low expectations) I have really been challenged thus far. I can honestly say that I am enjoying PES thoroughly again.

Haven't played that much yet, but so far I've noticed quite a lot of teams are playing a lot more direct football. Started the Legend-thing and got signed by a Dutch club and quite a few of the teams there plays long balls quite often. It's a nice change from last years edition, where almost every team seemed to pass it around the back for hours before even thinking about going forward.

As others mentioned there isn't too many big changes in this years edition, but I think the small ones makes it much more enjoyable. I was very disappointed with the demo and tried getting into FIFA instead, but I decided to give this final version a go when it came out and it's so much better than the demo.

agggh for friggs sake

I went and bought FIFA12 because i thought that after seeing the demo, i'd finally had enough (after defending Pro Evo for years). Plus my brother plays FIFA12 and was raving about it, so i bought it.

Now you're saying that this version of Pro Evo is actually good? Dammit

Hey Geebs

Yeah, well at least I'm quite enjoying the game, personally, I think there's been more than just a few changes, I think they've at least taken some leaps in the right direction.

Try and borrow it from a buddy if you can and let me know what you think. FIFA has been much better for the best part of half a decade though, but the fanboy in me just couldn't let go ;)

Off topic I know, but today I saw a guy with a Brazil shirt with Ronarid #9 on the back. Brilliant!

The new patch is out.

Konami have released their most recent gameplay patch today, fixing the runbug for 360 owners, and tweaking the goal keeping and set pieces.

Apparently the pace has also been slowed down, which is much needed.
