Pro Cycling 2018

Bernal helps Froome back to the pack after being dropped himself; then heads the group after. Guy is different gravy, only 21 too!

Can't wait til Sky bring Ryan Mullen in and turn him into the next TdF winner, another one made on the Welsh cols.

They need to bring @Welsh Wonder, it will be far more entertaining.

Someone needs to create the Tour de France for the unfit, that's a reality show that I would watch or even participate to.

All in all, very disappointing Tour, especially in light of entertaining Giro. I don't mind the winner actually, but lack of some proper good GC on GC action.

I don't really mind Thomas either but he must go down as one of the blandest grand tour winners I've ever seen. There's just nothing interesting about him as a rider and his performance here is characterised by a complete lack of excitement, adventure or even grit and character. Well done to him and well deserved but I can't see myself rooting for him in the future. This is all on the condition he doesn't crash today, which you never know I guess.

That said, I can't say Dumoulin is any more exciting than him. He did pretty much nothing for three weeks, same as Thomas. Thomas just did it a little bit better. I can't stand this calculated style of cycling, which sadly seems way more efficient than the risky and entertaining style we all want to see.

In general, this Tour quite a let down from Giro even with the stacked riders Tour had. A first week full of sprint stages not gonna deliver at all. Tour needs better stages arrangement.

Now come Vuelta. Can't wait.

Geraint Thomas --TdF winner! I What an Achievement. I had doubts as to whether he's get the chance to lead a GT team at Sky but he's gone and done it. Track rider to road convert. What a journey, and a few good years left in this man yet.

Yes, he's had an incredible team, the outstanding GT team, and both Dumoulin and Froomey had the Giro in their legs but he looked the strongest rider throughout, with that edge and reserve to put him ahead of his rivals. Just brilliant to see.

Sir Bradley Wiggins laid the foundation there. :D

Just seeing Brailsford hug geraint there, and you can tell it's especially poignant given the anus horribilis that Sky have had and yet have managed to win both GTs

Hapoy for Froome finishing on the podium too again despite immense pressure arising from the Salbutamol case.

Dumoulin as gracious in defeat as he is in victory, with nice comments and giving respect to GT saying he was the strongest rider these past 3 wks and that he could never put him in trouble.

Clásica de San Sebastián is in a week. And world's silliest bank, BinckBank, Tour is week or so later, hopefully nice races before Vuelta.

Couldn’t agree more, brought a tear to the eye.

I hear you sister.

A class act and someone who could win so many GT's

Unbelievable performance by Bernal, he looks like he’s been riding grand tours for years, i cant get my head round how good he was in this tour, incredible.

This. Hats off to them, but there’s a serious lack of personalities in the peloton today.

I have totally abandoned the potential Tour winners, I am a lot more supportive of riders like Alaphillipe and Majka.

I think it's time for a serious revamp. The best rider isn't necessarily winning, the best team is. Swap teams between G/Froome and Tom D/Roglic and the latter would win this tour simply because of Sky's team. Fair enough it's a team game but the domestiques are basically deciding the tour year after year. There isn't enough outright battle between the GC contenders. What I'd like to see:

  • One ITT up a HC mountain. No domestiques shielding you, just you against the clock.
  • One wave start. Top 15 in the GC start first, the rest of the riders start in the second wave 5 minutes later. Those 5 minutes are obviously subtracted from the second group's time at the finish so the stage winner will be the one who completes the stage in the shortest time. Again, no domestiques to help you out unless they're in the top 15. A straight battle between the GC contenders from start to finish.

They went from nine riders per team to eight this year (one of the reasons being to lessen the influence of domestiques) but the only real effect that has had is the sprinters have had less protection in the mountains and a lot of them forced to withdraw or failing to make the time limit.

London - Surrey race also going on at the same time, would say it's stupid, but considering what a bore will the last stage in TdF be, carry on. It's apparently on BBC. Cavendish, Viviani, Ewan featuring among others.
