"Everyone that knows me, knows I am a lover of football.

"It is always difficult to find the perfect match but I feel this is the perfect match. Manchester United breaths football. If you look at all the players from Manchester United, the stadium, the manager my choice was made very soon in my mind."

Pre-Fulham press conference at 9am.

I'm waiting for the news on Evans.

I'm not expecting much. "He's been training, but won't quite be ready yet. Carrick's applying himself very well; the rest are still some ways away."

Evans has apparently been in "training" since towards the end of our preseason. It's obviously not full contact training.

SAF on Buttner: "We've wanted Alex for a while and he'll be a great addition to our squad. He may be on the bench tomorrow."

On defensive injuries: "I need to call Bruce and Pallister! Jones started training yesterday but tomorrow will be too soon for him."

When asked if any more signings will follow, Sir Alex declared: "We definitely won't be buying anyone else."

Buttner: "I feel good. It's a dream to play for United. I know I can learn so much from the players here and I can't wait to play with them"

"I need to call Bruce and Pallister!," joked the boss, who fielded Michael Carrick alongside Nemanja Vidic at Goodison Park.

"Phil Jones started training yesterday but tomorrow is too soon for him. Robin has had a few days training since Monday. It's a home game and there's every chance he could get a start.

"It's pretty much the same as Monday night injury-wise. Alex will be involved tomorrow because he gives that back-up. Evra could actually play centre-back. He has done in the past. But I don't think Alex will start tomorrow, I think he'll be on the bench."

The manager is fully aware of the need to bounce back from the defeat at Everton but appreciates the Cottagers will provide a tough test.

"I went to see Fulham last Saturday and they played very well," he added. "They have a lot of experience in their team with six players over 30. We're at home and we need to make an impact quickly after Monday's game."

"Evra could actually play centre-back"? I'd thought about this and pretty much dismissed the idea. Anyone think Sir Alex is giving it serious consideration?

Not really! No back-up at left back.

Buutner needs to start the game if Evra to be considered playing in the middle.

I think he was talking about it more in terms of worst case scenarios and bench options. Eg. - we can put Buttner on the bench instead of Wooton since Evra can play as an emergency CB.

Yeah that makes sense. It really highlights the scale of the problem we have here. This is the third time in about four seasons we have had a defensive crisis of this magnitude and I honestly don't remember any other side having experienced anything remotely like it.

I seriously fecking hope not.

He can't concentrate on defending as it is.

That's a myth. I read some stats a few days back and he holds up against other 2 best left backs in the Premiership..

Yeah, Evra does seem to get some harsh criticism on here. I **** he's a better option at centre back than Carrick, I'll be honest.

Our defence is fecked up at the moment nothing we can do but our attack is very strong, after the toothless attacking performance against everton I would prefer if we concentrated on putting out our best attacking lineup and focus on outscoring fulham, that means starting RVP and putting Valencia back on the wing.

I doubt it, Evra is an attacking full back, you wouldn't stick Dani Alves in centre defence! Besides, he is absolutely tiny, I reckon after our struggles with Evertons long ball Fulham may try something similar.

Carrick will play in defence. We'll win. It's fine.

Why would you play Evra at centre back rather than a younger centre half from the reserves? It makes no sense. The lack of positional sense and height you'd get would be just as bad, if not worse than throwing in a younger, less experienced but specialist, taller young player.

why would anyone in his senses play a left back who doesnt know how to defend in the middle of the defence?

Will we be playing a winger at fullback and a striker on the wing with both a fullback and a winger on the bench again?

The notion that Evra can't defend doesn't wash with me. I'd be fine with Evra at centre back.

Pre-match presser at 9am this morning.

Expecting comments on transfer window movement ("not a lot happening in terms of bringing people in" "we're done" "leave me alone"), Southampton's rise to the top, the nonsense over Nani, and the key Man City signing of Richard Wright.

I wont be surprised if he introduces Angelo Henriquez.

He'll say we're done and will do no more deals, and he'll mainly talk about the match on Sunday.

It'll be cancelled, he'll be rushing off to the airport.
