Premier League Matchweek 22 (Jan 21-22)

He's been in professional sport all his adult life, he knows it has ups and downs. The only reason he would contemplate going is if he thinks he genuinely can't fix it and drive them to the top. Personally I think it's way too early for such assumptions.
Maybe i should have written "he might be", instead of "would be" ;)

Fecking A. Now don't fricking get injured against Matip ffs. Just in time to get some practice before the Chelsea game.

Can't decide what to root for in the city vs spurs game. (assuming we win)
1. City win will reduce the gap to 4th to 2 pts. 2.Spurs win will put us 5th, however good chance we will still be 4pts of 4th.
3. A draw will reduce gap to 4th to 3pts, keep us 6th with same pts as city unless we destroy stoke by 4+ goals.

Great news about Matip.
Big game but l dont think any result is enough to rule any one side out of the running for top four and even the league.

Don't forget that from now till the first week of April two of the top six play each other every week. Till then we could potentially see a lot of change in league positions week by week, especially from 2nd to 6th, with the points gap remaining what it currently is. Unless one side capitulates or goes on a unbeaten run thats how it will be for a long time imo.

Easy 3 points for Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. We better not slip up at Stoke.

Still can't believe we've only dropped 2 points all season to teams outside the Top 6 & that was against Swansea of all clubs. Hopefully the streak continues before the big showdown against Liverpool.

Wow really. If United can reel off another 5-6 wins in a row we will be in business.

Liverpool, Arsenal & Chelsea have 3 piss easy home matches and are on TV, yet United are away to Stoke (a fixture United never win) and it's not on TV!?

Anybody have a good explanation for this?

Yes, you don't have to be on every week.:wenger:

Although with the internet these days who cares, you can watch any game that you want

United are always on the telly but can't be every week. It might be about upping the quota of the teams Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are playing. Each team has to have a minimum amount of live games. Showing them against big teams is a smart way of doing it.

Yes but what I'm saying is that United won't be on TV for a home game in the league against Hull or Watford or Sunderland etc. So I don't get why those 3 matches are when there are so many tougher matches going on. Stoke vs United should have been a lock in this round of fixtures and the only reason you'd deny that is if you don't look at it in a neutral light

No, I'm not disagreeing about the interest in the respective games. All I'm saying is it could just be TV admin. All teams need a minimum amount of games. Maybe Stoke have had plenty so it makes sense to get the other opponents on the box this weekend. Come March to April only the important teams get shown - everyone needs their quota sorted by that point.

That was a league cup semi final. Not on tv when we play them in the league

They can't really put every league game for every team against Hull on TV, can they?

Man United get more than their share of televised games through the the season. I'd be surprised if you have more than 10 3pm Saturday games for the whole season!

That's what I'm saying. Matches at home to Hull really shouldn't be on TV when you're a top club, United included.

If it was United vs Hull and Stoke vs Chelsea, I'd say the same. It should then be Chelsea on TV and United not.

Everyone knows Chelsea are going to beat Hull by about 4 goals, what's exciting about that for anyone who isn't a Chelsea fan? Whereas United haven't beat Stoke away since 2013. And have lost twice. So it's a much more unpredictable and exciting match for neutrals, so will get more TV attention

They have to show the odd Hull game though and if it was Swansea v Hull instead, no fecker would watch.

We had all our first 9-10 games on BT or Sky. We've only not been televised 3-4 times before today so I totally get why we aren't on TV once in a while. The game will be on Sky Sports 5 Ireland by the way, it's quite easy to find a quality river if you don't have the channel.

Having said that, I do feel it's overkill showing three games that basically are walkover for the home teams. They could have used this gameweek to fill their quota of showing lesser teams and stadiums (Palace-Everton would have made a good game).

Poor Swansea.... can see Liverpool putting at least 3 past them

Liverpool v Swansea
Bournemouth v Watford
Palace v Everton
Boro v WHU
Stoke v United
WBA
v Sunderland
City v Spurs
Southampton v Leicester
Arsenal v Burnley
Chelsea v Hull

City's win or a draw. Need to stop Spurs's run.

If Klopp insists to put Lallana in the front three again, Liverpool might struggle. I don´t understand why he does not pull Wijnaldum up, if he doesn´t trust Sturridge and Origi. The whole system of Liverpool start and ends with Lallana/Henderson in the middle bossing the game.

You'll only be one point behind Spurs if you win yourselves though, while the gap with City widens if they lose. I'd say securing top 4 first and foremost is more important than trying to win the title at this point for Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal.

But why are 3pm kickoffs not allowed to be televised in the UK?

Exactly.

Liverpool 3-0 Swansea
Bournemouth 2-1 Watford
Crystal Palace 1-3 Everton
Middlesbrough 1-1 West Ham
Stoke 1-1 Man Utd
West Brom 2-0 Sunderland
Man City 1-2 Tottenham

I said i would prefer a City's win because i think a win wouldn't do them that well in the end. They would still be vulnerable.

Because of the negative impact it would have on attendances at all the smaller clubs.
It's a necessary rule though - televised games are probably the reason why the Etihad isn't sold out today!
