Premier League Gameweek 6

There is zero chance of City winning the league without Rodri, irrespective of what happens today.

It's going to be a long season, but it looks like it will be difficult for City to win the league
If Arsenal can avoid an injury crisis, especially in defense, they've got a real chance

It'll definitely be a bottle job if they don't win it this year really. With City done post the Rodri injury, they're by far the best team in this league.

They already missing their most important and least replaceable player for months

Of course the referees in this league is never going to award more than 1 penalty against City in the same match. If that was us or Arsenal though..

People say this about City in this early part of the season pretty much every season. And they always find a way to string 15-20 consecutive wins together post January.

They've not had Rodri out for the season before though. We saw exactly how irreplaceable he was last season when they were losing pretty much every game without him. That coupled with a poor summer transfer window and it doesn't look good for them.

They did have KDB out for an entire season when he was thought to be utterly irreplaceable though.

Too early to write them off.

I thought on the second one it was inconclusive whether there was enough contact for the Newcastle player to go down. It would have been very soft imo.

That’s true tbf but they’ll probably secure someone like Zubimendi and somehow he’ll slot in seamlessly and City will still rattle off 18 wins in 19 games.

Unfortunately they would be fine , it might take bit of time for Guardiola to find the magic formula but he will do it .

Depends on who they sign in January and how far off the pace they are by then. Arsenal are too strong in the second half themselves now

Not sure about that. There are similar profiles to Rodri out there, but they're inferior in the end. Also, City's recruitment has been a bit suspect in the last few years IMO.

Why would anyone go there in January?
The January window should give us a glimpse behind the scenes. Do they try to go for a Zubimendi/big 60M signing or do they find a cheap cover/loan ? Anyone signing during the trial will add plenty of clauses in that contract.

Saka captains Arsenal with Saliba, Gabriel and Rice in the side. Feels odd but really pleased for him.

Edit : Didn’t realise he was last week too.

Not surprised Man. City dropped points, Newcastle away is always one of their hardest of the season under Guardiola, can remember him losing there against Benitez when Newcastle only had about 15% possession.

Newcastle are solid and hard to beat, certainly won't lose many at SJP. They will struggle to win many away without Isak though.

Newcastle were better than us today. Much of it on Pep with an overly negative midfield of Gundogan (who had a nightmare game) but both Lewis (whose only reason for not being the worst player on the pitch today was Gundo ) and Kovacic sitting. If you're not brave you don't win and we weren't brave, simple as. The Bernardo/Grealish wingers always make us look lethargic offensively when both play together though Grealish has shown a lot more intent this season and been better than Doku.

Walker has now been directly responsible for the last 3 goals we've conceded (in 2 matches no less). Worryingly it looks like Gundo's legs might not be up to intense full on games and he'll have to be used sparingly in games where we're not gonna get physically dominated in the middle of the park, hopefully its just a one off. The biggest positive is Kovacic did a good job covering the Rodri position as he did first 3 games of the season so that's not gonna be as big a deal going forward.

Poor showing from Pep, Gundo, Lewis and Walker. Lack of creativity and if Newcastle had anyone with nerve on a few of those chances we lose.

Two consecutive weeks where city are lucky to escape with a draw. They really don’t have any goal scorers other than halaand. Unless you want to be nice and say foden

Also a fair point, but until I see evidence to the contrary, then my bet is on City doing what they always do.

The City lineup was already indicating that Pep "respects" this away fixture. Gundogan at #10, Lewis helping Kovacic in midfield, Grealish and Bernardo as ball-retention wingers over low-block breakers Savio and Doku who take more risks.
