Premier League Gameweek 6

First corner taken by the 15y old is more dangerous that any of Eriksen's since he came on. And goal.

I think it’s time. What is INEOS waiting for. It’s painful watching a coach knowing he’s on borrowed time even for a rival.

Why would a pool fan feel pained by United getting mauled regularly under an incompetent manager?
It's Comedy gold.

United losing aside which is fine, the coach being under the kosh and giving cringy interviews is getting horrible to see. It’s not like a Mourinho falling apart.

I thought United would pull a win out of the bag today. Feels like the end for ETH. Hard to see them winning at Villa.

So a new mgr will inherit players ETH brought in. What do they do? Tear it down and bring in players? Or work with these players

The new players should not be an issue for the new manager. Get rid of Rashford, find a way (or get rid) to play Bruno in a way he doesn't destroy every attack and you're okay until the summer.

Who buys Rashford given his wages?

But he brought in players that he was familiar with or coached before. I doubt many of these players would start at City, Liverpool, or Arsenal. So next season( assuming a washout this season) they will either do a clear out with most likely Southgate coming in or hope the new mgr gets them playing better. What a mess

Pay him off, show him the door, communicado official and move on already. It's insane how long you've been dragging this problem along...
Your young wingers will be able to fight it out between them. They won't be in a position where they know Rashford will be starting and do feck all 9 games out of 10 no matter what they do in training or games.

They wouldn't start but a competent manager can still build something with that group and not be fighting for 10th place. Who that manager is, i don't know. He will be stuck with Onana, have 3 good defenders, 2 okayish midfielders and a bundle of attackers that should be enough to stay in Europe.

Wonder how motivated ETH is. I mean Utd were looking for a replacement after he won the FA cup. Only didn't pull the trigger as no good options.

Bit of a sleight at him, probably wants a payoff.

I think ETH has some similarities with Poch. Both managed sides that really punched above their clubs' weight in the 2016-2019 period and both have been living off that achievement since. In each case the managers also had a golden generation of players for that club while also deploying some tactical ideas that were ahead-of-the-curve enough to reap rewards but weren't particularly sophisticated (Poch's high pressing, Ten Hag's vertical possession play) and better tacticians soon either adopted similar ideas in more sophisticated setups and/or found means to counter them.

So what you have in each case is a manager who just doesn't have what it takes to compete at the very top in terms of footballing vision, player recruitment, tactical acumen within games, etc. But each has done just enough in the past that people who can't judge this well for themselves can get fooled (especially if they really want to believe). Eventually the level of the managers will show in results and the quality of stuff being played on the pitch. Poch got a couple chances before big clubs figured him out and has now found his level managing the US national team (great appointment for the US of course). ETH has been able to keep fooling enough people in the United hierarchy to keep his job into a third year.

The one I’m worried about is Tuchel. I hope to god united don’t think about him in the search for a coach after ETH. Go for the waistcoat.

Tuchel is famously short-termist who falls out with footballers.

We are so lucky not to be only a couple of points off the bottom 3, fortunate we faced Southampton

Yeah this is bang on. I'd also extend this to every coach out there honestly - you can't just have a good season and say okay, let's go do the same thing again. The tactical meta keeps changing continuously. Teams adapt to the prevailing tactics and then you have to reinvent yourself and find answers to these adaptations.

Like if you get the 2015 version of Klopp's heavy metal football and have them play that right now in the PL as-is, they'd get smashed by quite a few teams.

I don't know how you'd separate one-season wonders (or even past-its) from good coaches in an environment like this. Like are Tuchel's ideas on build up and pressing still relevant? How about Amorim?

Based on what?

Potter on MNF tonight. Interesting that he's coming back into the limelight with a few precarious jobs out there...hint hint.

I think he's finally off our books at the end of October...

So probably finally wants a new job properly

Nice work doing f/a for 100k a week or whatever for 2 years! If you can get it...

Oh look, another Liverpool fan who thinks we'll hire Southgate. I, for one, am shocked that's what you think.
I mean I don't see who else you would go for other than giving it to RVN.

Edit: I suppose Tuchel might be an option.

Who else is there except those 2 ? You're not getting Naggelsman, Allegri or Zidane. Maybe Howe but you'd think he'd stick it out to see what happens with the England job. Frank ? meh...

Tuchel? Proven winner if a bit of a handful. Man went to a Chelsea side is disarray and won the CL.

3 league titles and a CL is a cv most managers would kill for despite the turbulence he brings. If United opt for Potter or Southgate over him, Ratcliffe is clearly an idiot.

Literally any manager who's only top flight club experience hasn't involved getting relegated. Roberto Martinez is more qualified than Southgate. At least he has a trophy to his name with Wigan. Why not throw his name into the ring if we're going to start being this disingenuous.

Potter not so bad. Southgate will be a cringe fest. The England connection will be played to bits. A nightmare scenario if there ever was one for everybody.

I don't think Southgate is the right man for United (or any club looking to compete), but there have been links. It's possible Ratcliffe likes him.

Martinez is probably more qualified but he hasn't been linked or mentioned at all. Southgate, Potter, Tuchel...all have.

The more I think about it, the more I think Tuchel might be the one they go for.
