Premier League Gameweek 35-37 + FA Cup semis

Probably helped by the fact they weren't playing the fittest team in the league and the team that they were playing couldn't string 3 passes together to save their lives

Yeah, Southampton loves turning it on against us.

A friend of a friend's cousin told me that their player's exit the dressing with the theme tune of Stars in Their Eyes playing in the background: "tonight, Mathew, we're gonna... be Barca 2011"

Sounds far fetched but I believe it.

You two Chelsea fans have nothing to moan about tonight, stuck all the pressure back on us & Leicester again.

Apologies if this came across as gloating. Certainly I'm chuffed to get the 3 points; still think there are valid criticisms to be made over the performance of certain individuals.

Still sticks in my throat that one of your ex players didn't see red last night. Would have definitely been a turning point in the game.

Random stat - Serge Aurier is currently in a tie for 3rd leading scorer for Norwich this season. Outside of Pukki & Cantwell, no one else has scored more than 1 league goal and Aurier managed an OG against them in December.

Yeah extremely unlucky, though I think Romeu made something like 20 appearances for us over 4 seasons; suffice to say he's hardly a household name at the club.

Yep, this is shots conceded per game for the top 6:

City 7.34
Chelsea 8.53
Liverpool 9.34
United 9.97
Leicester 10.31
Wolves 10.54

doesn’t it also include shots off target? Those may be some poor shots with 0% chance to score ...

Over the course of the season that'd even out and generally teams that are good defensively also concede as few shots as possible.

Chelsea are conceding better chances than average which is why we are 4th in xGA whilst being 2nd in shots against, but just to reiterate the biggest problem by far is Kepa.

Yeah and that one wasn't as bad so god knows what they were thinking last night

That's what drives me up the wall - the maddening lack of consistency. During a match at full speed with an incident being seen once, I'm obviously happy to accept some margin of error. If we are to begrudgingly go along with this slowing of the game so incidents can be examined at every angle in slow motion, the least we can expect is reliable interpretation of the laws and everyone could take some measure of comfort in knowing that the right decision was reached. Instead, it's been an utter farce, with absurd decisions every single round of fixtures.

You're right, of course, but the manner of the win last night was evident for all to see. It was a chore to watch, I don't know how any non-Chelsea fan could sit through 90 mins of that garbage. I'm happy that we can now sit back and watch the other teams play this week though.

No, you get the same picture. Shots on target conceded per game:

Liverpool 2.86
Chelsea 3.03
City 3.09
United 3.34

And while we're at it, and I know it's not popular on here but perfectly highlights where the issue is, expected goals conceded per game:

Wolves 0.89
City 0.91
United 0.96
Chelsea 1.01
Liverpool 1.07

It's not a case of conceding few shots but those shots being of relatively higher quality. I'm sure Chelsea have been unlucky with above-par finishing by their opponents to a degree (Zaha's screamer recently comes to mind) but the main problem is evidently Kepa.

based on this statistics, our problem is de Gea then (to a lesser extent than Kepa is for Chelsea, of course, but still we shall concede less with these numbers)

We've conceded as many as expected roughly this season. Liverpool have been expected to concede about the same as us but have conceded 8-9 less. This has been due to the 'luck' some people have talking about this season but more to do with having the best keeper in the league.

Our actual goals conceded per game is 1. That's almost exactly the same as the expected goals conceded. A clean sheet against Palace would take it to 0.97.

Yes, but our goalkeeper must outperform xGA - as well as any other player in Man Utd must play better than “expected”. That’s the whole point - otherwise it will be difficult for us to win trophies going forward

That certainly helps. I've seen rumours regarding Oblak and Chelsea. Not sure if there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening but if there is, they should break the bank for him. Much more important than Werner/Ziyech/Chilwell etc in my opinion.

Over the past three seasons Atletico have conceded just 77 goals from 104 xGA. Him and Allison are far ahead of everyone else in that regard.

So we want Spurs and Wolves to win today yes so they have something to fight for in their next two games? Spurs play Leicester after this and Wolves will play Chelsea in the final game

Burnely & Spurs wins tonight please.

If Burley win that rules Wolves out of the top 4 race, and they may not give it their all against Chelsea.

Because of that I kinda want Wolves to win and close their gap on Chelsea. I think...

Seen as I live in Wolves and my wife's family are all huge fans, trust me the last thing I want tonight is a Wolves win

That’s my reckoning. Spurs can’t get top 4, W

Fair enough, might be more fun to watch them lose it on the final day however!

I want Wolves to fail so they can't get top 4. On less team to compete with. Leicester is our main rival anyway and that game against them is key. If we win it then we will get top 4 unless we fail against both Palace and West Ham.

Aurier can't possibly be in the right mindset to play tonight

You will have to be brave man and take one for the team. You will be loved and praised forever and ever and ever.
Have I sold it to you?
