Premier League Gameweek 3

Nowhere near a red. Much worse challenges in other games don't get that. Refs supposed to let things go. Aussie ref didn't get the memo.
From first view it looked petty high and studs up and reckless I thought. Wasn't hugely surprised ref thought it was a red but the right decision made in the end.

Ref must have thought the studs went into the knee, not how it actually happened
yeah you can see why he gave it, but in slow motion it’s clearly not as bad as first thought

Seen a shed load of red cards worse than that, precedent set, no more soft reds due to high foot/studs showing. Game over.

Oddly, VAR made me think that actually might have been a red  Purely because he's off his feet
I honestly wouldn’t mind those fouls being made reds honestly, as long as it were also applied to Liverpool/city which it wouldn’t be

I don't mind the red. Trippier was way too slow for a normal tactical foul and had to jump in. Once you jump in with both food off ground, I don't mind the player getting send off. In this situation it wasn't super dangerous, but Trippier has no control at all how he hits KdB.

studs weren’t showing it was the side of his foot and purely a dangling leg.

Wasn't it Carragher who said when the ref is called to go view the screen it's already basically been overturned but they are showing the ref why

If he did he's wrong because only the on-field ref can overturn it. However, the bar for disagreeing with the ref is so high that they only get them to review if they think he made a really obvious error. That's why they usually change their mind when they go to the screen.

That's not what makes a red. It wasn't a dangerous or reckless tackle.

Great use of VAR there.

City are winning this. You can sense the goal is coming. Newcastle look knackered.

Off the ground and knee high, studs showing? Not reckless or dangerous.

I swear when the referee was looking at the monitor he was going to be, WTF has this even been reviewed?

It's a red 8 days a week.

Never, he taps him with the top of his foot.

Well clearly not when most people think it's a yellow.

Its anyone game, City are pushing high for the win, which is leaving space for Newcatle to attack in.

Well it clearly isn't and wasn't a red. There was no force in it and no danger to KDB. He basically tripped him.

Never, he taps him with the top of his foot.

Which is why he goes down holding his knee in agony.

Actually the worst thing about this incident, is that from the footage there's no reason for the referee to overturn it. He must have been ordered to do it by VAR. That's violates the VAR protocol and is an error in applying the current the laws of the game.

Watching keepers sweep up balls like that pisses me off so much.

no contact with studs is exactly why it was a yellow. zero force or impact to hurt KDB, purely a trip at speed.

yes it was a touch high but that isn’t really important in context
