Premier League Gameweek 2

There were seasons when Liverpool beat us left and right, and we still won the League. Liverpool got that "we beat Top 6" trophy, though.

Yeah happened in 2008/2009 season. They beat us home and away including the famous 4-1 on Old Trafford, but we won the league. Now we're doing exactly as Liverpool fans back then by glorifying us winning home and away against City while they finished 15 points ahead of us. These 2 wins were fun I'm not saying otherwise, but let's not be delusional.

This City team is levels and levels above us
They will lose the next match and people will say the opposite. They're good on their day but they struggle when things go against them. They never seem to turn the tide around.

Are you being this dumb on purpose? If he's on the subs bench it doesn't mean he's going to play, but the team needed a goal and he is the best option.
You said Ole made it clear he wanted to give Greenwood rest. Why include him on the bench and use him?

Job not done yet but a great 45 minutes from us.

We look tactically different, much more direct in the oppo half. Fernandinho back in midfield makes us 10 times more solid. Things might change 2nd half but I think Fern, Rodri and KDB might be our go to midfield this season, lacks a little flair and maybe will lack a little possession but very good defensively and more direct. Certainly notable but it might just be down to the players unavailable.
Its not about directness. Its not even about the pace that was very much lacking last season. Pep is back to one of his basic rules - if you lose the ball you have to bring it back asap. City players are sharp and agressive with and without the ball and of course their positioning on the pitch is out of this world. This is what made an already fantastic team at Barca qualitywise into one of the best in the history of football.

Us beating City three out of four times. They won the one that mattered and it ended in a trophy.

At the time it did matter to me. Doing the double over our rivals is something we've not been able to do for a while. Also, those six points we picked up against them ultimately got us into the top four.

The reason I mentioned the three wins is to emphasize to people that there's more than one way to skin a cat. Do City and Liverpool play good football on the eye? Yes. Amongst the best in Europe, but being well coached is not just attacking patterns as I said before, and we pretty much nulified City in most of the games we played against them last year, but of course our staff won't get any credit for that because it's all about the final third.

Right, right, right. So what you’re saying is that City train/practice? Cool

What are you even trying to get at with this. We aren't City. They are fecking miles better than we are. Not seen anyone say otherwise.

Whilst we have been getting our captain out of jail and all the other crap they been doing what they do. Keeping the ball and playing good football.

I dunno last season they weren’t great but I expect a response this one

Isn't that a bit like Spurs fans going nuts if they beat Arsenal but haven't won anything since the year dot? Top clubs it is about winning trophies not just shafting your local rivals.

Whats the difference in pace this season.. Fern is quicker than Gundo, thats literally the only change. Or maybe its a competent dm in the dm role.

I weirdly want City to win. Hear me out before the obscenities.

I don't think United have a chance and the only other team I suppose would be City to rival Liverpool. Much rather City than Liverpool win their 20th title.

In fairness, City players haven't exactly been great behavior wise in the lockdown covid era either. Walker, Foden. 3 players in the squad currently with or just over it.

Totally rational feeling.

If there’s one side a lack of fans will benefit it’s city. Superb technical players.

One of those wins was in the League cup tie which they got past us winning the first leg then won the final.

They also finished ahead of us in the league with 15 points gab and that was their worst season in the last 3 years.

One has to be delusional to think at the end they're not better coached or drilled than us.

Kindly point out where I say they weren't better coached or drilled than us. All I said is there's a few sheep on here that seems to have jumped
on the bandwagon regards the coaching bollocks.

Fernandinho has been such a quality servant to you guys. Great player. I bet Pep would kill to make Fernandinho 10 years younger again.

Goes without saying. Other than games against us, I want them to win others.

Wtf is weird in that. We all want that. Feck Liverpool.

You said Ole made it clear he wanted to give Greenwood rest. Why include him on the bench and use him?

You must be trolling, "why use him" eeehhh, he's a striker and United needed a goal
"Why include him" He's not injured and there's no guarantee he would be needed and the alternatives are Mata and Lingard...

My last reply to this.

But but but...surely they shouldn't be match fit or sharp because they played in Europe and had no rest or a proper pre season???

Isn't that a bit like Spurs fans going nuts if they beat Arsenal but haven't won anything since the year dot? Top clubs it is about winning trophies not just shafting your local rivals.

No, because my original point, which was obviously derailed, was that coaching is not just to do with attacking patterns, hence why I pointed out that we beat them 3/4 times last season playing defensive/counter-attacking football.

People need to get it out of their heads that it's not just about that. I also think Ole deserves a bit more credit than he gets. We played some fantastic football at the back end of last season, but it seems people have short memories.

It's not bollocks, and it's not just about attacking patterns only either like what you're saying. Liverpool and City are better coached than us across the whole field in general and it's a fact, shown by results, trophies and league positions over the last few years. Just because we defeated them in a one off game doesn't mean otherwise. We can enjoy such wins without being delusional.

So basically Ole was chatting shit then. If you really want to give Greenwood rest you don't include him in the match day squad.

I'm not attacking you here, I just got issues with Ole's "clear intent" on giving Greenwood rest.

Well that's not weird but pretty obvious.

Btw: weren't teams without proper pre season supposed to look like an absolute pub team?

Nullifying is a big word to use. City had their chances to even out, or go on to kick our ass. They failed to do so like that first leg spanking in the League Cup is their problem last season, their worst in the last 3.

And no, it's not about final third. City and Liverpool gameplan is not only about just attacking pattern but the use of the ball when in possession and collective pressing to recover possession as defensive mechanism. Their defensive record spoke for itself. We had none of that, after the hype about moving away from Mourinho, just to settle back with smiling defensive counter attacking tactic.

OK. Ole did great, but until he wins something people will always have doubts. If he can get us winning trophies nobody will doubt him.

Again, kindly point out where I'm being delusional. At least we know the Caf trend for the next coming months anyway. Too many sheep on here, unfortunately.

They didn't run their team into the ground last season like a certain 13 man squad I know of. It might be that.
