Premier League Gameweek 17-19

Boos for the ref and Newcastle's shithousery pretty clearly....

They're a tough team to break down and very solid & compact at the back, not a bad point I suppose even if frustrating due to the abysmal refereeing and Newcastle's over reliance on Atletico tactics.

They aren't winning the title playing like that though, they could've played another 90 minutes and were never gonna score from open play unless we had an absolute brainfart at some point.
Oh but we don’t want them to win the title. We just want them to make sure you lose pts. 2 today and 2 more to come in the away game, and same thing for City. And hopefully we can beat you all.

First step is done with the gap down to 9 pts as predicted.

Arsenal finally got first hand experience on Newcastle's shithousery and awful refereeing.

Bleh, we didn't play well. Our attack was completely off today. Credit to Newcastle making it difficult and disrupting any rhythm but man that was really dire. What happened to the side that went toe to toe with Man City earlier in the season? Why no Saint Maximin?

Not giving the pen at the end because of proximity is understandable but what's the excuse on Gabriel ? Holds him for 5s and push him to the ground...

Horrible, shithousing, timewasting performance from Newcastle from the first whistle. Got their point, but horrendous to watch and a real spectacle on some of what’s wrong with modern football. (Diving, play acting, taking an age over everything)

Arsenal not good enough on the night and no real ideas or ways to change it up, but that was horrible to watch. Newcastle won’t be darlings for long playing like that.

Not a fan of them, far from it, but Newcastle did what they needed to do at a tough away ground. I actually thought they looked more likely to nick one in the last 15 minutes.

Huh, just glanced at Newcastle’s league fixtures and their next 6 have all been selected for TV (incl. four 5:30 Saturday KO’s in a row).

Sportwashing isn't as effective if your games aren't being shown on TV.

Thought we'd drop points here as we were due a bit of a dip in form. Newcastle executed their plan perfectly and we weren't clicking in the final third. Not a bad point at any rate.

Gotta feel for Everton right now.

They definitely prefer to play away than at home right now.

After Seeing this Spurs lineup, maybe Conte isn't doing badly having them this close to the top 4.

It’s his tactics and system that rubs some Spurs fans up the wrong way though.

Even if Conte had better players, he would still insist on playing 3 at the back, shit on a stick football.

How do they compare to other teams like us, City, Liverpool, Arsenal?

The Saints need to sack that new manager they hired, terrible appointment I’m sure they could have done better.
He made a mistake taking the Stoke job, then went back to Luton did a good job, problem for him now is the lad who took over Rob Edwards is doing a great job in his place.

Can someone explain to me what motivated Southampton to hire Nathan Jones as manager. He did ok with Luton Town, I suppose, but c'mon, Luton Town.

They saw how he returned to Luton and took us from certain relegation to safety in the space of a few games to close out the season and then went on to take us to the playoffs a couple seasons later. But PL is a whole other ball game. They needed to realise how inexperienced he is at that level.

Rob is doing fantastic and the fans are really getting behind him. Beat QPR for the first time since the early 80s...

See above.

Not everyone has to play this possession based, pressing style to win. Spurs have a good team overall, but are currently hit with injuries - Kulusevski was a massive reason they finished where they did last year, Richarlison is out, as is Bentancur.

Conte won the league with a back 3, which is what Tuchel reimplimented with Chelsea.

Thanks. Didn't realise you were a Hatter. :)

I was devastated when I read that Jones left (with a loss to Stoke in his final game... how ironing )... but Rob has just picked up where he left off. To be fair to Jones, his recruitment was stellar considering our budget.
