Premier League Festive Season

A Newcastle goal away from a 40/1 pay out. To be fair, they could have played for another 6 hours and wouldn’t have looked like scoring.

1 goal in 6 for Calvert-Lewin, was he just on a hot streak? These are the kind of figures we're used to seeing for him.

Why do you want to bring us into it. We should have won. So no, a point today is just not enough. Its 2 points dropped
In context to the performance maybe.
But a point against a team second in the table away from home is still a good point.

Looking at Everton lineup today, man they're ridiculously overachieving.

Very skillfully managed by Ancelotti. I think they will beat City on Monday. City play good football in possession but continue to look laboured and going through the motions without the ball. They lack intensity.

Yeah they certainly showed us how to manage a lead in the last ten minutes effectively. Could have been even worse had Saints & Chelsea not dropped pts

Shows the difference in standards and thats down to the managers
What are you on about?
Do you really think right now that United should be hammering every team??

Currently we are a team that should be looking at challenging for the top three with an outside chance of challenging for the title, currently we are achieving them standards.
Leicester are a team challenging for top four with a chance of top three, hardly cannon fodder.

Always a tricky game V Leicester away for us.

No. That we are disappointed with drawing with the team in 2nd place when we should have won while they're making excuses for St Lampard losing 3 in 4

City finally finding some form to challenge for the title or does it only look temporary?
Will any team mount a title challenge? None did last season and Liverpool look like the only side capable of 90 or above points this season. Will be some battle for 2nd, 3rd, 4th though.

Fair enough :D

I feel like Bruce gets credit on here for simply not being Rafa. Most magpies I’ve ever spoken to think he’s a nice enough bloke but my word do they want rid.

Hes having to make chances for himself at the moment. Our most creative players are injured - Digne, Rodriguez and Richarlison. The former two injured for a couple of weeks now. Also haven’t been playing with proper fullbacks for a while.

He’s not a Kane that will score from outside of the box and make goals himself like that but give him the service and he will deliver.

I agree with this totally. I love Brucie but Newcastle fans are not in the wrong just because they preferred having a CL and La Liga winning manager with real pedigree.

He’s pretty much doing the exact same job Benitez was doing. Firmly mid table.

To be fair to Rafa, he has a -11 million net spend there and wasn’t even allowed to add a cheap striker to the squad.

Bruce has been allowed to spend 100 million since he arrived.

On a separate but mildly interesting note, the Liverpool team line up has been leaked pretty much accurately without fail this season. The person leaking it has tweeted he’s been caught, allegedly it’s the first team physiotherapist Chris Morgan who recently returned to the club. No idea if it’s true but we will see how it plays out.

What do they get from leaking it?

I’m fairness to Bruce, he’s spent money on four players and a large part of that spend was Joelinton so it’s not like he’s got much benefit from it. They’ve signed Wilson, Jamal Lewis and Saint Maximin so they’re probably looking better for most of those at least. It’s also about £70m net spend because they sold Perez. Newcastle fan sites don’t seem to want to consider that. I think Bruce has done considerably better than expected.

Well that's certainly true given we're currently discussing why he hasn't been sacked rather than reminiscing about how he was sacked after two months.

Why would they sack him though? What do Newcastle fans expect a manager to achieve there?

I was just making a joke that the expectations were that he'd be gone within a few months, so the fact he's still there is better than that.

Like most fans, I think they just want to see their side play some decent footie from time to time though. Bruce has gotten them results but his football has been tumescent. Maybe they are better with the devil they know (ask Ipswich fans) but it's an understandable request.

I thought that was what you were going with. They did seem certs to go down which is why I think Bruce has been harshly judged. He’s been a good mid table manager throughout his career.

But they adored Benitez for the same shit football. Strange bunch.

He was still given the sum to spend on Joelinton and it was wasted. So that is a point against him.

I think he has done OK too to be fair, but I understand. If I supported Newcastle, and we had a manager that had a CL, La Liga’s, a UEFA cup and an FA cup on his CV, I would be furious if he wasn’t backed financially and we brought in a manager who has only ever managed struggling teams...only to immediately hand him money to squander on a striker that doesn’t score.

Wilson and Lewis have been good signings, but I can understand why it grates when Benitez could have potentially done a lot better with a few better players.

Rafa brought optimism because of who he was and what he has achieved in the game. I can understand why they are still annoyed about it.

He was signed less than a week after Bruce was appointed. You’d have to guess the wheels were long in motion on that one.

Benitez is obviously a better manager than Bruce but they could easily have ended up much worse off than they have.

I agree, it could have been a lot worse. What I meant was, Bruce is the face of the owners they hate. He was seen as getting the backing they wanted for their man.

He was doomed since the start.

Didn’t realise Sheffield United have lost 13 of their 15 games this season.
