Nice insight @harms. On the last point, I don't think he had the engine to go box-to-box for 90 minutes. As a fast-twitch athlete he struck through bursts of power, rather than the metronomic qualities of the slow-twitch endurance man (eg Xavi or Beckham). I'm also not sure the modern midfield shape necessarily demanded him to do both holding and goalscoring. With the midfield three he could specialise as either a pivot who sat behind the ball, or an 8 who could float 10 yards higher up the park waiting for his moment to kill. Perhaps he'd have done more of both back in the 80s and 90s when four-man midfields were king.
Agree with @P-Nut, he was a ridiculously good player at his peak and warrants a midfield to be built around him in this draft.
True. @harms described him on his high scoring season. Although Silva and Nasri loved to drift inside too, so Toure didn't really have the central space for himself. Also, most of his early career with City is 9-10 goals per season, that doesn't show a Lampard type, but more of slightly reserved young Scholes' stats.
